I'm working on a hyperball, power comes on all zeroes on displays and GI, split second later the elevator motor starts and player 1 display shows '3509 2', credit and and match display show both '0'. The playfield is not connected, if there might be an issue with self-testing the PF display.

Sounds like your starting out in bookkeeping mode. The numbers you are seeing is the game identification number. The batteries are not saving your settings. Replace the batteries. Hope this helps!

I had new batteries in but it doesn't really help when the battery holder is full of corrosion. I got one step further now, thank you!

Look at the driver board and the mpu board! That corrosion can get every little place! Might have to get the boards rebuilt, or rebuild them yourself if you are able to do that kind of thing.
