The issue with the Rottendog system 7 boards was speech problems. When you say ‘background lights’ do you mean ground illumination? If so I believe there is a separate relay that controls them to go off/on in totality. Maybe a transistor associated with that or the relay itself is a problem?

Check the special relay. It marked in the instructions as solenoid #11 in the coil test. I suspect that does the ground and head box gen illum. The instructions say it is in the backbox if the transformer is not in the cabinet or on the Power Supply Board if transformer is in in the cabinet. Sometimes a cube with a ‘handle’ on it 5 inputs usually crimp connectors. I have a black knight but in storage so I can’t check.
