First, never send your board to an eBay repair "tech".
Send it to one of several PinSide techs that can fix it right, and answer your questions when you get the board back.
That being said, the 2N4401 is installed backwards.
It's probably still OK.
Remove it and turn it around.

Ha ha ha...I've done it before too. That board set has chips sprinkled every which way. It's easy to get one in backwards.
