Here on Pinside, we've created 6+ clubs to promote the stars of the Class of System 3-9:
Barracora, Black Knight, Firepower, Gorgar, Sorcerer, Space Shuttle, etc...
Now we have a club for when you'd like to reach a wider Williams audience, and bring people together to discuss:

* troubleshooting
* repair
* finding replacement parts
* creating replacement parts
* buying/selling/trading parts
* sharing ideas

Hopefully we can bring together the biggest fans, and the sharpest minds in restoring these Williams classics from (1977-1985.)

If you have a question or contribution that you think may apply to all early Williams SS games, then this is the place to post it !

I like system 9, behind the scenes it's basically rock solid system 11, but sounds like system 6 and up.

#5 10 years ago

I'm in with Blackout and Black Knight LE.
Love 'em both!

Nice to see this, I have Flash and Gorgar but know very little troubleshooting beyond PinWiki:

Mof- you have to link vid's guide here!!!

As of today... Own...
Flash
Firepower
Blackout
Time Warp
Jungle Lord

Owned in past
Tri zone
Contact
World Cup soccer
Stellar wars
Phoenix
Space shuttle

Love these games!!!!!

Only advice I have is follow Vid's guide!

Socket that damn 5101... If your lucky and find a game that boots up in audit mode this might be only problem and you might get a good deal on game! But still... Follow vid's guide.

Sound issue... Seems for me to always be the 5050. Socket this when you fix as well!

Always have a spare driver board. Really nice to be able to switch out and quickly trouble shoot if that's your issue!

And... Socket, socket, socket

That is all...

I would like to mention of the existance of my Bridge Board for these systems.
In Europe directly available from me.
In the USA available from Big Daddy's Enterprises.

Take a look on my website for more information: www.inkochnito.nl
Click on the Bridge Board image.

There also is a tread about my Bridge Board here on Pinside:

Just started a Tech help thread for my Barracora. (Had it working 100% for a couple of days).
Thought maybe one of you might know where to start looking for my lights going out problem.
Here is the link if you think you may be able to help.
Thanks.

Nicely done! Glad to see somebody was able to run with the idea, it was still a few spots down my list of projects.
I also have to start being more discreet with product concepts in the future too.

Have a Black Knight and working out a few issues at the present time. Hans has some excellent testing units for Sys. 7 and other WMS pins and I recommend anyone with several systems 3-9 to seriously look at his Siege Craft site. I am interested in joining in as I still have much to learn in the
technical arena.

Starting to look more carefully at legs...

Wondering what the proper legs are for a Barracora?
Mine seem to have a single rib down the corner of the leg...
Anyone familiar with legs for System 7 in general?

My Space Shuttle has corner-ribbed chrome
My Barracora has corner-ribber black

I see with High Speed and forward, a half rib and later a full rib are introduced into the design...

-mof

#20 10 years ago

I don't have the correct legs, mine were bent out of acceptable limits, but add me to the club!

I do have a Flash, a Firepower and a Barracora (beautifull!). I like them a lot. I also wrote my own test Eprom's for testing system3-6 boards, system 7 boards and system 9 boards.

Non working Lucky 7 here.

2 weeks later
#23 9 years ago

These are my system 7s:

Black Knight - first pin I ever bought, 1998
Time Fantasy - last pin I bought, today!

I'm bursting at the seams, but I couldn't miss a chance to own TF. I really like the sounds, weird art and unusual rules. Plus I have a kind of "psychedelic art" room with black lights. It's a natural fit for that space.

In the past I've owned Sorcerer and Blackout.

Looking for help to create an index of all Williams games with evil pops -- any help appreciated...

Do you know of any early Williams games with pops with direct line of sight to a drain?

I have an Alien Poker. I need to replace the board interconnect header. I have the parts, just need to find the time to tear into it. Currently, it just comes up into audit mode.

Hadn't seen this thread before today, but I'm a fan of these pins.
They were what I grew up with. My line up is

- World Cup
- Phoenix
- Flash
- Time Warp
- Gorgar
- Firepower

all up and running, with

- Laser Ball
- Jungle Lord
- Barracora

to be restored.

SYS6, that's a great line up, Phoenix is an underated game, one of my faves from that era. Would like to add Flash & Phoenix to my williams collection one day.

#29 9 years ago

Here is my system 7 lineup. Great games!

Thanks, I agree Phoenix is very underrated - it's a really fun game. Also interesting from the development as an early SS effort. The A and B drops are a bit whacky - when you run thru the 2 or 4 roll over then the solenoid fires to raise either the A or B drop irrespective of what state they're in. ie even if the drop is in the up position the raise solenoid still fires. Also the A and B drops don't reset at the start of a game. It's hard to believe there wasn't he capacity within the system to achieve this?

I have a time warp and a broken firepower that I'm trying to bring back from the dead. Looking for anyone with playable boards if they have them. I'm on the edge everyday about buying a Phoenix but I really don't have the room right now

I love WMS 3-7 games! I like to think i am an expert at everything involving the PCBs in this game.

I can fix / rebuild your firepower boards sans some major battery damage. $200 shipped back for the MPU, driver, sound, speech, and power board all rebuilt, cleaned, and tested. I have a few hundred board rebuilds worth of experience. Right now i am running at about 1 month turn around time. Might vary a little bit each way.

Does anyone know what resistor this should be? It's connected to the Gorgar flash lamp for the snake pit.

Mof, off the top of my head, I think it's a 320 ohm.

#35 9 years ago

330 ohm 2w on the schematic.. I imagine you would go up to 3-5W

#36 9 years ago

I see the ones in Grand Lizard (sys11) are ceramic 330 ohm 7w. Should I upgrade to that one?

Just logging in. I currently have:
- Comet
- Black Knight
- Jungle Lord (still needs a little TLC)
- Blackout (needs a lot of TLC)
- World Cup Soccer (Needs TLC + parts)

Just picked up a Defender. System 7. Rottendog MPU.
Sometimes when I flip on the power, the two LEDs on the MPU do not light up, and I'm stuck with just GI on.

Can someone give me the right connectors to reseat?
Just finished a marathon 20 hour shop job to pretty it up, and now I can't get in a game, LOL ! (It worked earlier.)

thanks,
mof

Bumping an oldie to look for some help on finding the culprit to my left flipper inop issue on my Firepower. I have 40v at the right cabinet switch and zero on the left, both switches are new. I have reflowed all the driverboard edge connectors even though they all looked decent. 40 pin has been redone awhile back as well.

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: tracked the problem to a badly seated plug wire at 3P3 th the power supply. IPDB schematics rule!

Glad you are up and running!
FYI, this site has great info specific to Firepower:

Do blackout and firepower share the same schematics?

#46 8 years ago
Quoted from Lysurgeon:

Do blackout and firepower share the same schematics?

Yes, it does, but......
The coils lamps and switches are different offcourse.
The wires goto the same connections on the boards.
You can use the Tech Charts from my website and compare the two games.
I have a schematic pdf, but it uses only numbers to identify the different coils, lamps and switches.

Tearing down a system 7 right now. Need about 10 machine and wood screws that hold up the plastics. Wondering if anyone has a favorite vendor for grabbing the closest replica to original. Sometimes these things get repro'd funny.

Mof

#49 8 years ago

System 7:

a. switch test good
b. solenoid test good

1-player game won't start. (I have no battery pack atm, so I'm getting into attract mode via coin door switches)

Steps
1. I'm in attract mode
2. I can coin up
3. I click start, and the coin count drops by 1
4. High score bulb flashes... A few bonus lights light up in a particular order and repeat

Seems awfully close... Wait a sec -- doesn't that flashing mean...

SOLVED, ball trough switch issues... Ha. They work in switch test but not with 2 balls in there, will have to investigate further.
