Before I get to far into this, this isn't my game and I'm trying to help a friend determine the best course of action to get his game repaired.

He acquired this game (Fire!) "working". Recently he was telling me that the game would reset during game play so I suspected a bad flipper coil diode or maybe something with the power supply (bad connector, needs recapped, etc.). After a week or so he told me the game would reset randomly in attract mode as well. He doesn't really know his way around pins so I told him I would help him check it out.

As soon as we open up the backbox you can tell the batter holder was replaced and there had been leakage. We played a few games with my meter attached to his PS and MPU and got a solid 4.94 at the power supply and 4.9 at the MPU...maybe a hair low but no reset issue while we played maybe 20 minutes or so and no voltage drops. Wiggled the connectors and pushed on all the chips to see if I could trigger one and nothing.

He sent me a few pictures of the damage and it looks like mainly U41 and the resistors above the holder got hit (which I believe relate to the display), but I was looking for some guidance on the area to the left of the battery holder. In a quick glance at the schematic it looks like this area is part of the reset circuit. I'm trying to determine if that is correct and if so would that be a likely root cause.

I think he needs to send the board out either way but I was hoping to arm him with as much information as possible so he can actually get the root cause of his issue taken care of.

Any insight is appreciated, sorry about the pics if you have to zoom in.

Quoted from dozer1:

My advice would be for your friend to contact one of the reputable board guys, and send his board along with a print of your first post to the reputable board repairman. They will fix the problem, along with getting those batteries off the MPU.

Yeah I'm going to recommend he do that just want to make sure I'm pointing him in the right direction. I'd typically try more diagnosing if it was my own board but with him not knowing his way around games I just wanted to get him as much info as possible to sure he gets the root caused fixed. I believe he is going to contact Clive and Chris Hibler for some guidance.
