I hope the owner paid you to take it away.

I got it for free, the playfield does have factory mylar so its not a total loss, upper playfield isn't mylar'd so it seems that area my be a little rough. the head seem pretty repairable as it broke away on the joints. Board's have a little corrosion but nothing looks too deep

And the backglass survived? Incredible.

can anyone tell me if the lower cabinet from a JokerZ is the same as the bottom cabinet for a Whirlwind????

Quoted from zerbam:

It's the same cabinet. All WMS of that era are generally the same.

#4255 3 months ago

Is It a good idea to use some layers of clearcoat to protect the cabinet against external circumstances like dust, water, condens etc...?
Or are there other solutions?
Thanks

Quoted from Sheev_Palpatine:

I recently purchased an Elvira and the party Monsters. I have never owned a system 11 machine before. So my issue is. Sometimes when I turn the machine on. I get a high pitched squeal and the machine doesn’t boot. I turn it off and on the machine boots just fine. No clue? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Someone responded and stated that my power supply is due for a rebuild. So i sent it in and had it rebuilt. Well I just got it back and the machine did the same thing on the first attempt. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to replace C-30 on the CPU board.

Nice! I love System 11 machines. It is the era that was out when I really got into pinball hard, so that could be a reason why. New machines are cool, but for me you can't beat the simplicity and just fun time of a System 11 machine. Also, I feel they can sometimes be far more challenging than modern machines. No all the time ball saves, no give you multiball for no reason. Most have specific goals, albeit rather simplistic sometimes, btu easy to understand and hard to master.

But that's like, my opinion man. LOL

Nice collection you have there! I have owned Fire! and Road Kinds in the past. Wouldn't mind having them again though!

Any thoughts on how much the average System 11 weighs? I have a Riverboat Gambler and a potential buyer wants to know the approximate weight.

Thanks,

Alan

Hope I'm not too late for the purpose of this question, but these two games have different cabinets. Jokerz! has the older, shallower cabinet with a backbox neck:

Whirlwind has the newer cabinet style, about 2 inches deeper in the back and with holes drilled for side hinges:

Photos taken from ipdb.org. The cabinets are about the same otherwise.

Anybody out there brave enough to take this on, or know anyone who would? On a related note, does anyone have an 11c board for sale?

Check out the “dumbass” thread here. I have bought several of his Sys11 boards and they’re excellent.

When you have acid damage like yours, you’re chasing your tail. I’d probably just buy a new one, and sell your existing one - someone will buy it for $50 - $80 bucks or something. Helps pay for the new one.

Thanks rd, I put out a wtb ad for an oem board, maybe I’ll get lucky. I think dumbass is pretty backed up, I’ll send him a message though.

Own High Speed, I had a comet but traded it in to help fund a Godzilla premium.

Is it booting? I can clearly see alkaline damage on the battery pads but above and below look good from what I can see.

Edit: never mind. See it now on the chips below.

Do you buy the bare boards or have them pre assembled? Ordering parts is such a pita.

I got whole boards. One for my Taxi restore, one for my Rollergames. Both games were purchased with acid damaged boards from being in storage for long periods. Which meant minty games - but stuffed boards!

I ain’t got no time to assemble whole boards! That time can be better spent fixing 10 other things!

You can order from him either way. However - there will be a long delay for ordering pre-populated boards. (6+ months or so.)

Hahaha, that’s what happens when you have 114 games!!! I’m going to take the bom to my local electronics store and see what they can come up with. They’ll get a kick out of it, old school guys. Or I’ll get kicked out.

Has anyone ever swapped a system 11 playfield from a different game into a stock game? For example, I have a High Speed, but I would also like a Road Kings.
Would it be feasible to disconnect and remove the HS playfield, connect and drop in a populated Road Kings playfield, swap out the Roms and sound Roms and be able to play Road Kings? I assume there would be more to it than that, and would like to hear from anyone who has done something like this or is knowledgable about it, and what if any changes had to be made to the wiring harness and so on. Thanks.

The interconnect board might be different between those games.
Pinwiki should know about details

It should be (but might have some minimal changes) - Sys11 didn't use an interconnect until I believe 11B and 11C so those older titles should be good to go.

Thats what Im thinking, hopefully just some minor wiring changes, not sure if they have the same amount of coils or if that matters. It would be cool to be able to swap between Road Kings and High Speed if its not too involved.

What are the proper legs for some later 87-90 system 11 pins? I’ve often seen them swapped between the full length rib style (longer) and the two half length rib style (shorter) in arcades. Some sample photos offered on ipdb are inconsistent as well. Appreciate any insight!

#4282 72 days ago
Quoted from Vino:

Appears they changed to the full rib at Whirlwind …

If you look at the previous game, Transporter, it’s still small rib. Then changes with the next game, WW.

Looking for a little tech help regarding sound on my Rollergames!

I bought the game with a damaged speaker cone on the cabinet speaker. When I replaced the speaker with the same replacement that PBL sells, the audio quality coming from the speakers in the head is drastically reduced - it's very distorted and sounds "blown out". If I unplug the cabinet speaker during operation, the audio clears up just fine. I can plug and unplug the speaker to replicate the issue while the game is playing.

I noticed the factory speaker was 4 ohm, versus the 8 ohm speaker that PBL sells as a replacement. To troubleshoot, I picked up a 4 Ohm subwoofer and experience the same issue.

The introduction of any speaker to the cabinet speaker wiring drastically lowers audio quality. Does this sound like a simple wiring issue, or is there something else at play here?

Id rank space station, then jokerz. Grand lizard doesn’t get a fair shake because I haven’t played it enough.

Hey Folks!
I just picked up a Bad Cats that needed some love and working my way through ordering replacement parts.

The leaf switches have had a number of MacGyver jobs done on them and could use replacing. I can't see any part number in the manual that I have though.

Can anyone advise what part to use?

Bad Cats, Williams, 1989, System 11

Thanks in advance,
Andy

#4290 68 days ago

Not answering your question, but just fyi on bad cats Cpr just released a few playfields, also I have replacement seafood windows available and I will ship them down there to you, just pm me and we can hash it out.

Same. I like Space Station more than Jokerz. Haven't played too much Grand Lizard, but wasn't blown away by it.

I don’t rank things - but I’ll tell you all of those are good, fun games.

Jokerz is very underrated.

I think Grand Lizard is more fun to play than Whirlwind!... and I can tell you for certain Wirlwind! is the best system 11 game ever made. That is about all that you really need to know. I had a Jokerz for about 3 years and I would NOT own another one. Space Station is a great designed game... but I doubt that I would ever buy one unless it was a killer deal.

Added 63 days ago:

I felt like simply ranking them doesn't really give these games much justice. Hence the explanations...

Awesome! BK2K is amazing. I never should have sold mine

Bride of Pinbot looks right at home in a System 11 row even though it's not technically a System 11 machine (just like Funhouse).

Great lineup you have!

Chris

#4300 64 days ago
Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

Awesome! BK2K is amazing. I never should have sold mine

It has an amazing sound/light show (especially the soundtrack, for sure).

The problem is you could have a left flipper broken on it and not notice for several games (kind of kidding)

i.e. shoot the ball back to the top.... gametime super long. Once you master those 2 shots to the top via the left ramp and the vuk, you will play all day. I'm not sure what if anything could be done to alleviate this flaw, despite my having 2 of these over the years (one I bought distrib. demo new in 1990, the other around 2004). The original BK had that bouncy rubber before the upper left flipper that always bounces it above the upper right flipper to come down so the upper PF is much more drainy than BK2K.

What a rush on 2k when you get Random spelled..... EVERYTHING IS LIT!
