OK, that cap is there to cut down on the spark when the switch is closed. Found a loose wire, flipper fixed.

But now I have no speech. The music and sound effects are heard, but no speech. Sound Test runs without any speech. I have the 5 VDC, plus and minus 12 VDC and ground on the Sound Board (D-11581) connector J-3. There are two push button switches on the left side of the CPU. Pressing the upper one marked "Sound" does nothing. Pressing the lower one puts a message on the display that says "U10 PIA Failure". The machine boots and starts a game with no Credit Dot.

I know that the sound effects, speech and music travel back and forth between the CPU and the Sound Board. The U10 is a 6821, no socket.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Alan

Quoted from alexmogil:

Pulled it with freeze spray, no real issues!

Well, I just pulled mylar from my Dr Dude and there were a couple of places where art was pulled up on inserts.
It is just the way it goes when there is an area that got heated by the bulbs to deteriorate the art under the mylar.
The deteriorated (heat damaged) art tends to lift and stick to the mylar.
Good Luck.

Here's an update on my Bad Cats. I switched the sound board from my Riverboat Gambler into the Bad Cats which now plays the RG music but still no speech. I'm thinking it's a MPU problem. Someone suggested that there may be a problem with one of the Op-Amps, U4 and U5 (1458). Is there any way to test the U10, U4 and U5?

Thanks again

How about posting a picture of your MPU board?

#3255 3 months ago

Here's some pics of the MPU. The U4 and U5 8-pin ICs are on on the left side above the two push button switches. No alkaline damage.

I just noticed in the schematics that of the two op-amps, U4 and U5 (1458), U5 is a spare, not used. At this point, would it make sense to just go ahead and have someone replace the U10 PIA (6821) and the U4 op-amp and see what happens?

Check for corrosion on 1J8 on MPU. Pretty much bottom center below Batteries. Re-pin if any.

Check continuity if each wire back to the mpu and make sure the path is connected.

Thanks guys, I will check both tomorrow.

But right now I have to watch Will Smith save the earth from aliens.

Hoping someone can help me sort out this power supply setup too. I no longer have any SYS 11 machines of my own and my old pics aren’t showing this either. Figured this is the best place to ask before starting a new thread.

There’s this push on push off power button. Than it looks like they took the actual power switch and moved it to the power box. It’s almost like this box is for an early WPC power box.

I’d like to sort it out and make it right if possible. Otherwise I’ll just finish up installing the new power cord and call it done.

The pilgrim hat was broken so perhaps the cord was ripped out and messed up the power box so an early WPC was used.

Hey gentlemen. Where can a system 11 noob find himself a nice lockdown bar? Or, is there a way I can spruce mine up to look new? Pinball life says they haven't any for a Cyclone.

You can use a WPC style but won’t have the bends in. It will look ok if you wanted new.

You're kidding. So I can get ine from Terry and it will work? This one just sorta looks like hell.

Dmacy are you just wanting some pics inside the power box?

Yes and the routing from there to the switch. I’d possible ?!

Yep, I’ve had WPC style on my own sys 11’s before.

Interesting modification there. Definitely looks like a WPC power box. Not sure how the 2nd switch is wired in or why. The system 11 should just have a power box with the filter and fuse but no switch. Also missing is the Thermistor Between the Fuse and the line. See pic below.

Dr. Dude issue.. After I brought him home and a good cleaning and de-hacking I have the Dr. running. I have a display issue. The message that says "Dr. Dude" is missing the "D" in Dude and The Doctor is in" is missing the the 'D' (The octor is in). I have ran the display test and all of the segments work properly. Probably why the message was shut off. I also reseated the cables. I tried a custom message and no joy, the first line is still garbled, probably worse then before. Could this be a cmos (ram) issue? Ideas?

My System 9 Space Shuttle shows switch 40, right sling, as closed in switch test. I have lowered the two right sling switches from the playfield, there is no contact between the leaves, no solder bridge, and the diode and capacitor are wired exactly lie the left sling. The switch still shows closed.

I'm stumped here, any thoughts as to what to check next?

Thanks,

Alan

#3276 46 days ago

The switches that poke through the playfield aren't the stuck ones. There's a secondary scoring switch parallel with the playfield that's the one that's stuck.

#3277 46 days ago
Quoted from slochar:

And where would I find this little devil?

#3278 46 days ago

There's a nub on the sling arm that activates it. It's pretty obvious once you know it's there.
You probably touched it several times as you removed and installed the activation switches. Go to pinwiki and look up special solenoids they might have a pic.

#3279 46 days ago

Is there another switch under the playfield mounted flat? On my F14 when the coil fires it triggers a separate switch underneath.

Found it! Right where you guys said it was. Don't know how I missed it. Thanks.

Working sound board (comes with millionaire roms) that was tested in a pinbot (using a pinbot rom): $115 shipped

Millionaire display pcb. Missing credit display. Untested. Only the lower left display has a chance of working, the other have broken leads. Make offer.

The entire playfield top side is available, send me requests.

Bottom of the playfield has fewer available parts.

Some cab parts available.

Question for Police Force owners.........

I need to replace the belt for the police car on mine. I have the part, but how do you attach the 2 ends together? I kind of expected a loop but it's just a piece of plastic / rubber material with no connection at the ends to make it into a loop.

From memory, it has little brackets on the mechanism. The belt is held by these, held down by small screws.

Oh, ok, I will look more closely. Thank you. I just assumed that it made a circuit. That's what I get for assuming!

Looks like I’ll be joining the system 11 club soon. I have a good lead on a Taxi. Is there anything in particular I should be on the lookout for when I check this game out?
Thanks in advance

There are posts referencing this on the TAXI club thread. You should be able to find a lot of info there.

Taxi barn find from the States. Been in storage for years. Bottom of the playfield looks like new.

Playfield about to be sanded back and cleared.

Cabinet had some water damage, it’s been sanded back to the wood, and a new bottom put in. About to go to the car painters for some yellow paint.

Should come up nice!

SIGN ME UP!!!! I own a Cyclone and looking for a High Speed and Pinbot. I love system 11 games lol. My high school years. These pins hold up against the newer models quite nicely. Really fun games and themes with great backglass artwork. Mid to late 80's was a great time for pinball as a kid.

#3293 5 days ago

High Speed and that era games are the best.

Sorta embarrassed to admit I have 34 System 11s at the moment. Lol

All the 30 made … plus extra Taxi, Whirlwind, Rollergames and Pool Sharks.

When you have a Radical in your lounge, you know there’s a problem. Lol

You can heat the ends of a urethane belt and push them together. Here's how to do it without melting them off:

Yeah. But in this case you don’t do that.

It mounts to the car bracket.

PS my belt is also stuffed. It’s on my parts order list.

I've got a Pool Sharks. Don't see a lot of them. Was one of my first games I bought.

#3300 4 days ago

I wish I could keep them all.

So far I've owned and sold:
Rollergames
Taxi
Pool Sharks

Currently have:
Earthshaker
Millionaire (project machine)

I'm pretty jealous of Rotordave's collection - what a great era of games!
