Going to add a band of nasty fish around the bottom after getting these. These plus the purple feeding frenzy fish and a couple of others.

Awesome! So do you have them all? (sys11) Is that your goal? How long have you been collecting them?

#2903 4 years ago
Quoted from Djshakes:

I have an F14 that reset a bunch of times last night. Especially when I activated both flippers at once. It did it everytime. I turned game off and back on and seemed to be okay for a bit. Turned it on and off again and it would reset. Turned on and off a third time after checking all the diodes and worked fine. Getting "-error-" message in AU menu which I read was an indication of a bad diode causing resets. Do I just shotgun all the diodes?

the Error message in audits means that that audit has failed its checksum the only connection to a bad diode would be if the diode was causing a reset at the precise moment the audit was updating. Start by replacing the diodes on your flipper coils, to test them you have to lift one side, so might as well just replace them. You might have other issues though, with the power supply chain. Might want to start a separate thread to get more indepth with the sys11 gurus here

Need to see that.

Boat is a commercial fishing boat that I use for shark fishing. Set half a kilometer of net in four separate pieces. Only small boat left in the fishery, the rest are big reel boats that lift the nets hydraulically but I still pull them by hand. They do set a lot more to,about 2.5 to 4km's of net.

Bad Cats.

Does anyone know if the Williams 5 bank drop target rest ledge is available for sale? I can't seem to find the Williams one to fix my bad cats.

I see the Stern ones. Will they work? I don's see a Williams reference #.

thanks for the insight.

He knows, he’s been to my place.

You’re overdue for your next visit, ChrisS !

Talking of visiting NZ - everyone is welcome at the next World System 11 Championship - March 8, 2020, at my place.

Now officially the worlds 35th largest pinball tournament!

Qualify on 12 Classic Sys11 titles ... and play the other 18 in my arcade! All 30 baby! Booom!

All the tournament games have tournament roms with fixed jackpots. Just outfitted Pool Sharks with Søren’s new roms and sorted a few bugs for him. It’s awesome!

See you all there!

I love my pool sharks! I stick to 9 ball and leave 8 ball for the family. Then they have their own high score sets that I don't wipe out.

Quoted from Tomass:

I love my pool sharks! I stick to 9 ball and leave 8 ball for the family. Then they have their own high score sets that I don't wipe out.

The Søren rom makes 9 ball the only choice.

We also eliminated extra ball as an option from the Mystery award.

The jackpot is now player individual. It starts from 1,000,000 at the start of each ball, and you can build it up as per normal. Generally when you collect it, you’re getting 1.1 to 1.4m points.

Trick shot is still 3m so it really encourages you to collect all the pool balls.

Good tournament game now, in my opinion.

#2917 4 years ago

I absolutely love Søren’s work. Gottlieb games need his treatment now too! Balance out those horrendous mystery awards in the System 3 games without tournament mode.

My Fire! pinball has been making this high freq capacitor squeal noise for a while now. The first time I noticed it was before I had done any work in the backbox, and I figured once I replaced all the caps it would go away. It hasn't! It's intermittent and tends to go away once it's warmed up. I changed all the caps on the power supply, save for one, which either wasn't listed in the kit (I had to part it out because the kit was unavailable) or I missed it. It's located in the lower right corner of the p. supply board and is physically quite small, although I don't recall the value. I also replaced the big can cap and rectifiers with the nice fused replacement board.

I can follow the sound with my ear, and it's definitely coming from the power supply. I'm wondering if any of you have had any experience with something like this?

Check the replaced caps for the right orientation.
Maybe one of them is the wroung way around.

C7 and C8 are very important for the 5V supply.
C7 is a 100uF/25V and C8 is a 47uF/50V, but 63V or 100V is better.
Also check C12 which is in the danger zone when leaking.
C12 is a 330uF/10V, but 25V is better and more common.

Is it a Rottendog power supply? If so, ditch it and get an original working power supply.

I will double check those caps when I get a chance, also thanks for designing that board, it made things very easy!

Does anyone make a good aftermarket power supply board for system 9/11? ( I won’t have any old plasma displays In my pins once whirlwind gets switched out)

#2928 4 years ago
Quoted from nightsearcher:

Why would you not want the original power supply?

#2929 4 years ago

I always prefer to just fix the original. Spend a couple bucks rather than a hundred.

#2931 4 years ago

mine are all working , but if new technology would be more bulletproof, I’d be interested. Otherwise I would just leave the originals in

#2932 4 years ago

After a rebuild, the original power supply is back good as new.

Well I like all of them!

Taxi stands out as the game with the best integration. You have to tour the whole playfield to get to at jackpot.

Pin*bot wins for ultimate classic.

Here's the power supply. I checked that I put all the caps in the right direction. The only one I haven't changed is the little guy in the lower right, between the relay and the heat sync.

That capacitor you mentioned is C8, 47uf 63v, and it looks to be leaking. Oddly enough, it is not listed on the power supply BOM in the Fire manual. What if you remove the 1/4 amp fuse from F1, do you still hear the noise? I would expect not as removing the fuse would cut the high voltages from getting to the plasma display.

I will feel kind of stupid for posting if it does in fact turn out to be bad and causing the problem. I followed the sound with my ear and it seemed to be coming from the area around the big caps, but with a high freq noise like that it can be tricky to pinpoint with your ear. Should probably have just changed it to begin with! I will check when I get home tonight if pulling that fuse stops the noise.

I'm betting on a bad bridge rectifier. But you need to change C-8 too!

#2942 4 years ago

I was able to stop home on my lunch break, and confirmed that pulling f1 does stop the squealing. I'll change C8 in the next few days and let you all know if that fixed it.

#2943 4 years ago

On my new to me Taxi, about 10% of the time when you power on the game the bell will start ringing and there is garbled text on the display. Turn the machine off and on again and it resolves.

Is this maybe bad power from the power supply board? Any other ideas?

#2944 4 years ago

About 90% of the time, replacing C30 on the MPU corrects this.

Can a original high speed MPU Williams system 11 CPU, Part # D-10881 work in a System 11B (police force)?

Quoted from woody76:

Yes if you add a jumper wire on the back of the board.

#2948 4 years ago
Quoted from GRUMPY:

Yes if you add a jumper wire on the back of the board.

thanks Grumpy, do you have any details on how to do this?

#2949 4 years ago

On the system 11 CPU pins 6 and 7 are not connected to ground. The ground for the special solenoids switches comes from the power supply. On the system 11A and later pins 6 and 7 are connected to ground on the CPU board. On these systems the ground for special solenoids comes from pin 7 and not the power supply. So if you take and add a jumper from J-18 pin 6 to the outside edge of the board ground plane. Then the board can be used in any system 11 game.

So over the Christmas break I was able to change C8, I went ahead and changed C7 as well, just because I wasn't positive I had changed it last time. Hooked it up last night, and it's still singing! So onto the next thing!

Quoted from GRUMPY:

Do you think I should change Br1? Seems like the only bridge on the P-supply board. I have a few KBPC3504-W's laying around. That's a 35a 400v bridge, would that work as a replacement?
