Mousin Around and Space Station here!

Better System 11, Space Station or Bad Cats? I have Space Station but have never played Bad Cats.

Bad Cats is a fun game. It has a few strategies which makes it more than "shoot this all day". I don't have a ton of EXP on either, but I played Space Station at Pinburgh and it was fast and fun.

Quoted from GRUMPY:

If were me, and there was no battery corrosion! I would still buy it. But I can fix board problems.

Haha. Yeah, I can to an extent!!! Like very basic!!
It's no biggie. He will pay for any repair just a ball ache to send off. I'd at least like to narrow it down to a board

This was directed toward some of your questions.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

We would learn a lot just from these 2 items. Measuring the voltages and knowing they are in spec or not, keeps you from having to swap. In order to repair the board, still would need to know what voltage is causing the problem so the least amount of parts get replaced fixing the issue.
Depending on if, where, and how much battery corrosion there is, will depend on whether you want to tackle this potential amount of huge repair work, send it out for repair or replace the board.

Have you even seen a picture of the MPU board to know if it is even battery corrosion free?

Once you get the game, it will be best for you to start a new thread.
We are here to help, so might as well get your DMM handy and buy a logic probe if you don't have one now.

#1806 5 years ago

Yes, it looks free from corrosion. I'll keep you posted. Thanks thus far

This means that it will be the power supply or the CPU . If you check the 5 and 12 volts on the power supply you will know which board is the issue.

I just picked up a Dr Dude.

I've got a number of segments out on my lower display on a BK2K. Is it something as simple as a burned out resistor or are the tubes likely toast?

It can be a number of things causing this. It's not the display glass.
Is there any corrosion around the batteries?

#1812 5 years ago

interested in buying a bad cats or banzai run. please pm me if you have one you are looking to sell

Nope, and there's a remote battery holder installed as well.

Need you help guys.

I re-installed my playfield into my Pinbot and flipped the switch for the first time in 15 months. It looked good and was ready to run some tests and while I was away, I came back and playfield GI was now OFF. Backbox GI is fine.

??

Did you rebuild the GI relays?

#1823 5 years ago

No.

Which are? This guy at the bottom?
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

I might also note that while looking for the problem, I found 2 of the 4 5a slo-blow fuse stack had blown.

#1824 5 years ago

How do I test the relay? It clicks during test mode. It looks good from the outside.

Looks like I have 6v at the sockets.

Does power come in or out of the power unit supply? I know asking is like answering but I got nothing at 3J8. Even on the pin connecting to the brown wire (working backbox GI). I might not take my measurement the right way.

If you have 6 volts AC at the lamp sockets, the lamps should light. Either you have next to no current (amperage). Or, your bulbs are blown.

Make sure that when you measure the AC that you are measuring across the AC legs in the GI circuit, and not trying to measure them using a common point as ground. In other words, measure from the solid brown wire to the striped brown wire, solid purple wire to striped purple, and so on.

#1826 5 years ago

Thanks guys, I'm going to try that and take it to its own thread. I'll keep you posted.

#1827 5 years ago

Check your relay for cracked solder joints. Check solenoid 12 in test and see if the relay is clicking.

#1829 5 years ago

I've been in for a while, just found this thread.....

Over the years I've had 2 F-14s, 2 Taxis, Rollergames, Whirlwind, 2 Bally Game shows, Pin-bot and Jokerz. For me system 11 is the sound of my youth. Weekend after Weekend in the arcades with friends playing pinball in the late 80s and early 90s when system 11 dominated the lineup. Original themes, and well thought out designs, that's how it needs to be again!

This is my current lineup....

I am looking at a Jokerz project machine but I have actually never played the game at all before. I havent played a system 11 that I did not like yet so I am sure I will enjoy it but what do you guys think about the game. I am not a huge card theme fan or anything, just like a fun game. What other 11s is Jokerz most like?

It's kinda a one shot game so I don't think it would do well as an only pin. However it is fun, and the music is pretty cool. The artwork package is what really pulled me in (especially the back glass). Also we have young kids, and it's an easy game for them to play and get multi ball on (i usually get multi ball 3-5 times in one 3 ball game). If you are getting one for cheap and don't have to sink much money into it i say go for it. And i agree.....pretty much any system 11 is a safe bet if you haven't played it before.

I appreciate the quick response. I dont mind "one shot" games. I love games like police force. Sure, I can hit the one ramp over and over to run up the score but the game in itself is quite fun to play. As for Jokerz, The game is a nonworking project so I would have to get in it right to buy it.

My System 11 collection:

Pin*Bot
Earth Shaker
Whirlwind
Diner
Mousin' Around
Radical!

This covers all of my favorites....

Nice! I've been keeping my eye out for a cheap police force for a while. That's one I've never played, but i like the look and layout of it.

On a side note I may be selling my Jokerz sometime soon. So if you project game falls through I'll keep you in mind when it's time and see if you are interested.

I just saved my Jokerz. An operator friend had been using it for parts. So many things were gone from this game. But I wanted this project. You will find mixed opinions on this game. Most people hate the music. I like this game...a lot. It's very challenging. It's all about the bonus. Set the game on Ex easy to start off.

Since they used the same Yamaha FM sound chip in the Sega Genesis (well, the same chip but the Genesis had fewer channels), System 11 games strike a chord with my heartstrings too.

I knew the sound from the Adlib/Soundblaster era but never made the connection until just now. Yes, my memories resonate to those sounds also.

hey guys, im looking for a display.. i know end of life is approaching on these guys but i have a 4th player display that is out.

looking to repair it cheap and after some diagnostics, a replacement display glass should fit the bill.

im good with an iron so i'd just line up the pins and have at it.... does not need to be new, but needs to be... cheep?

oh and for posterity sake, please keep this thread here for reference as it can serve as a good glass cross-reference - Stern/Data-East 7 digit numeric glasses can be compatible, even individual boards being used for the glass on 4 player display pcbs

For system 11 knowledge, or maybe you guys already know this, but displays for numerical can be swapped glass for like glass and still work perfectly.

Don't be intimidated by the lack of legs off the glass, appears they are unnecessary!

Holy moly, did you solder that with a hot butter knife or what?

#1847 5 years ago

I’m not great at soldering so when I read the butter knife comment I just had to look closer. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve had similar soldering experiences. It was a good laugh though.

I just got the opportunity to get back my AFM so I need to make some space. I will be posting this in the marketplace with more pics but I'll mention here the game is in good condition, upgraded speaker system, new displays restenciled condition green cabinet. $2200 obo.

Bahahaha!!! Got me red handed.

I tacked the legs as they were way more springy than I expected, then went back over them later.

I was afraid that if I heat the leg too much, it would heat the entire leg and heat inside the glass sandwich, so I just wanted to go quick and dirty
