I got the following board in my BK2K. The head was involved in a flood and half the CPU board sat in water for a couple days. Luckily it stayed in the same climate, dry and seemed to have limited damage. The board started acting a little wonky with the drop targets and I found D2 had rusted through a leg and have not troubleshooted anything else. Easy fix, but the question is... is it worth fixing?

Is there any way to eliminate rust on a board? I would like to salvage this board... but obviously I can use it for parts if needed. I was thinking of throwing a bit of evapo rust on the board and then drying it out after... but is it circuit board safe?

Thanks for any advice.

edit. Yes i know the battery holder is really really bad

I'd squirt it with some Castrol Super Clean and scrub it with a tooth brush. Check the results. There is some alkaline damage there too. You'll need to neutralize that with 50/50 vinegar/water. Rinse thoroughly to ensure all vinegar is removed.

Castrol super clean is a degreaser, it would work as effectively for taking rust off?

There may be some alkaline damage as well (I don't know the history of the board), I can definitely clean that as well, easy enough to do, i got tons of distilled water.

Thanks Chris

Yup...it's a degreaser. But it seems to clean just about anything (except alkaline corrosion) from boards. The dirt/grime/grease, and hopefully rust, just melts away.
