I just joined today. I picked up a good condition machine out of a non collector's home. Sadly, even though it has been working fine for him for years, the GI is just too hacked for me to feel safe firing it up as is. Hopefully going to send the interconnect board and harnesses off for repair. It should clean up really nice. As a bonus it came with a sheet of insert stickers, new drop target stickers, a flipper rebuild kit and Xpin LED displays (that were not advertised).

Yeah, another guy from BPA went and looked at it the day before and passed. There is some minor PF wear, but not a deal breaker. The price was right and the extras help soften the blow of the burnt GI connectors. Sending those off to Allan today. I am really stoked, not a machine that comes up often.

#297 8 years ago

Anyone know how many red star posts are in the game? I am trying to put my shop list together.

#360 8 years ago

Those cards are SICK!

Just starting to strip my PF. Ugh loctite! Any tricks to removing the small flipper? I can't tell if mine is frozen on or if I am missing something.

#363 8 years ago

Hey, I got a new set of ramps for my SoF and I could have sworn that PPS or someone carried the metallic orange stickers for the tunnel, but now I can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone have a lead? I am hoping to put together the last of my orders today.

#366 8 years ago

Oh hey, I guess before he was making mediocre movies he was inspecting playfileds.

Also I can't believe this is happening! I'm getting ready to send this baby off for a spa treatment. Tomorrow it will get the green and then it will get packed up and sent off. So stocked!

Quoted from TG:

Who's restoring it? Neo?

Yup, I'm pretty stoked. I only wish my Rollergames was ready to send out too.

I'm pretty excited to get SoF back together. I picked it up in April and haven't been able to play any real games om it because of all of the work it needed. I feel that if I am stripping it to clean it, etc I may as well do it right and get it cleared too. When all is said and done it should be as good if not better than new.

Yeah, it's crazy how nasty folks will let their machines get. This was in a home for 10+ years. I don't think they ever cleaned or waxed it. Thank god for the mylar.

#372 8 years ago

Major thanks to TecumsehPlissken for the ramp sticker.

In the spirit of paying it forward I have a spare set of original insert decals that came with the machine, but were missing a sticker or two and seemed a little dusty. If they can be of any use to anyone send me a PM and I will send the your way.

I've not been able to find any spinner target decals available for Swords of Fury, so made my own using a digital camera and Photoshop. If you need some, send me a private message (PM). Here's what they look like. They are ink jet printed on high quality vinyl decal material and face laminated with mylar.

Wow, those are awesome! Nice work. My restored PF should be arriving today (Thanks Neo) and spinner decals are high on my list of things I am looking for.

Neo did a fantastic job all around. I got one of the lower tier restorations and I am absolutely stoked with how it came out. The machine was in a home for 10 or so years, but the owner never waxed it so there was a ton of insert wear, etc.

#448 8 years ago

Nice work! I love your updates.

#449 8 years ago

So as I look ahead to re-assembling my playfield I was wondering, has anyone come up with a good solution/replacement for the mini flipper? Mine is nasty and I don't think there is any method that will clean it up. I went with all black flippers elsewhere so I guess I could re-paint, but was hoping for a better solution.

Has anyone attempted a 3d scan and print yet?

#451 8 years ago

This is the answer that I feared. I guess I will have to scrub/clean then spray the one I have now.

#453 8 years ago

Looks great!

#457 8 years ago

OK, working on getting the underside all cleaned up. I started to make a list of some parts I need to get rebuild kits, new coil sleeves, and new coil wrappers (I know, I know) and noticed I am rocking four different flipper coils: FL-11630, FL-11629, FL-11753, and FL-11722

I'm supposed to have a pair of FL-11630 for the bottom flippers and a pair of FL-11753 for the top no?

Also my drop target coils are AE-25-1000, but in the manual it states AE-26-1400. Is that ok?

If only everything could be as easy as polishing.

Does anyone have the part number for the diverter plunger and matching coil spring? It looks like the diverter is A-13278 (2-1/16 inch long) but I wanted to make sure. In addition I can't find the part number for the coil spring for this one either (not the diverter 10-389 spring). Any ideas?

#469 8 years ago

I will be doing flipper upgrades this week. It will probably be a couple of weeks until the PF is re-assembled in its entirety again though.

#471 8 years ago

He's talking about replacing the traditional conical spring with a return spring the WPC era games have like here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-upgradingrebuilding-flippers

You get a much snappier flipper with way better action. Plus it prolongs the life of the plunger. It's a very simple upgrade that I highly recommend. I have done it to all of my games.

#473 8 years ago

I see what you mean. Work is killing me. I have all of the parts ready to re-assemble my PF, I just lack the time. Hopefully someone else on here has done the upgrade and can report back sooner.

I'm so stoked! I will probably get as far as I can tomorrow. I need to order some bulbs from Comet before I can finish it. The wait may kill me. At least it will give me some time to figure out what to do with the drop targets. I was thinking about using the images of the monsters instead of the gold metallic. I can't tell if it will be too redundant though. I just feel like the drop targets need more love.

Gorgeous playfield nerdygrrl!

I cannot recommend Neo and his work enough. This poor PF had never seen a coat of wax. The wear was bad. It looks brand new now. It's gonna play fast

Quoted from KevInBuffalo:

Gorgeous playfield nerdygrrl!

I can't wait to get the ramps installed! I just have to get my bulb order placed-most likely next week.

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

that reminds me. I should crank out the clear ramps I bought and do the custom work I wanted to do on them.

Oh wow, I can't wait to see what you do with them. I still can't get over how amazing this PF turned out. The pics do not do it justice. Many thanks again.

#510 8 years ago

It's going to be so awesome! I can't wait to get it all back together. Now I want them all cleared.

#513 8 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

yea me too. Unfortunately, in 10 years, i've only had the chance to restore 5 of my games.

This seems to be the way, always working on other people's projects and never your own.

Quoted from Luzur:

I might be "picking up" (it just cost me the minor sum of 1700 LOL) a SoF of my own pretty soon.

Good luck!

#525 8 years ago

Major congrats. And +1 for the repro from Germany. I have heard great things. I plan on ordering some myself.

On an aside I have a set of drop target decals here that I am not going to use. They are free to a good home to whomever that wants them. Drop me a PM.

#532 8 years ago
Quoted from CaptainNeo:

those original or repros? I know marco had a huge stack of originals for the longest time. Until I got my game and needed one. Most of these translites are melted because the backbox board is too close to the translite. Melts little bulb mounds all over the place. BGrestore makes a glass fused version, it's ok, but color bleach out. On mine anyway. I heard he corrected the problem and the newer ones don't bleach out.

They are repros

#534 8 years ago

Yeah, the price on these with the exchange is ok. It's just the dang shipping doubles the cost as they ship "priority". I'll probably get one as mine is washed out a bit.

#536 8 years ago
Quoted from TecumsehPlissken:

website says unfortunately not available

Oh darn, drop them a line. They just got a new batch in this summer. They order them from somewhere.

#547 8 years ago

Here's the manual. Page 24 had the CPU info. I can't recall if 1J18 is blank or not. The manual states it's for the special solenoids as is 1J19.

On my cab my backbox lights come off and run to the interconnect board at J7<- likely culprit and J11 and J13

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/swords-of-fury-owners-club-fans-also-welcome/page/11#post-2978762

#549 8 years ago

Yup IIRC that is your GI input/power. I had to re-pin both on mine. They were smoked.

#552 8 years ago

My PF is not back together yet, but I can take some pics of where I stand a little later when the sun comes out. I wanted to add more blue and black to the game and went with that color scheme.

I went blue star posts. Most of the folks that have seen it in person really dig them. I then went with black flippers with blue flipper rubbers (not sure how I feel about them yet. Not totally digging) and black rubbers/blue post sleeves.

My wireforms were rubbish when I got them so I had them powder coated. I had wanted the light blue as seen in the PF, but the shop did not match them well.

#561 8 years ago
Quoted from toasterman04:

Hey guys, I just got board work done on my swords of fury and and scared the wiring isn't right in one plug... Plug J4... It has the following top to bottom :
Vio-Brn
Vio-red
Space
Vio- yel
Vio-grn
Vio- blue
Space
Vio-blk
Vio-grey...
Is his correct... I don't want to turn on the game without it being right...

The info you seek is on page 21 of the manual. I highly recommend downloading an printing. It's a life saver.

#568 8 years ago

Speaking of drop targets I am about to rebuild mine tomorrow-how do folks feel about grease or oil on the targets themselves? An old timer recommended it to me yesterday and my old targets looked like they had a grease residue on them.

I also bought all new plastic targets. My old ones are up for grabs if anyone needs one or all. I can take pics, they're not minty, some decals have chips, but they're free.

#571 8 years ago

Thanks for the drop target tips guys! I ended up finishing the remaining soldering on my PF and braving the plugging in of my GI today (huzzah). I think I took my ramps off back in July to send to Freeplay to do his thang. What are we at like 200+ days later? *Maybe I'll have my Rollergames done in time for Pintastic.

I want to tweak the blue under the ramp some, but I am digging the rest. I would LOVE some BG suggestions. I can't get mine dialed into save my life. I can't tell if it's just bad bulb placement in relation to the art or that my art is faded, but my BG looks like crap.

So a bunch of my pics (mostly from the mini PF breakdown) are MIA. I found this piece of metal and I have no idea where it goes, I am assuming it belongs to SoF. One side has threaded holes the other doesn't. Anybody know?

In addition I went and dinged up the ball gate for my mini PF when I lost my grip on the buffer and it went flying across the room (I'll get the part number shortly). Does anyone have a spare that they would like to sell?

unnamed-19_(resized).jpgunnamed-19_(resized).jpg

#575 8 years ago

Many thanks! I kind of thought that was its purpose! I wish I could find those darn pics.

I am looking for the long one that sits atop the mini PF. According to the Blue Catalog it is part number: A-12033 (assembly) or 01-8375 (just bracket), but the drawing looks slightly different than the actual bit.

#577 8 years ago

I just need the bracket. The corners got smashed in. I can grind them, but I still worry about nicked balls and damage to my PF b/c of it.

#579 8 years ago

I just installed your spinner decals yesterday as well. I can't thank you enough for doing them. A HUGE difference.

#582 8 years ago

It's coming along so nicely K3V. I'm so glad you were able to track one down.

#583 8 years ago

So I managed to plug my switch and coil lines in and all is well except for the left lock back. Left lock back switch one is triggering. I think it'c because of its placement to lock back switch 2. I am pretty certain the mounting screw for 2 is triggering 1. When I got the machine Switch 2 had a broken mounting bracket so they were taped together. Can someone snap me a pic of their orientation? I just want to make sure they are ok. Wow, this may all be re-assembled by the weekend!

#585 8 years ago

You won't be disappointed.

#587 8 years ago

So it looks like, no you can't actually use the upgraded flipper mod on the mini flipper because there is not enough clearance and you will short out a switch column. This was literally the last piece I needed to install to finish my PF overhaul. ON top of this, I mangled the EOS switch trying to get everything sorted in there. Oy, somebody bourbon me.

unnamed-18_(resized).jpgunnamed-18_(resized).jpg

#588 8 years ago

Finally, after close to a year it is complete! I am having some flipper issues that I need to sort out. I am hoping it's nothing major. I have some wonky stuff going on. Prior to the flipper install all was well so I will have to go back and look over the wiring. Aside from that it's just not registering a ball drain. Hopefully it will be playable by Sunday! Lionman!

Thanks. What a crazy ride. I can't believe I am considering doing the same to Rollergames now.

Cards, new BG, and speakers are next.

#600 8 years ago

On the upper ramp, covering the micro to the upper wireform. Sorry no pic, haven't put mine back on yet, but I can demo later if you would like.

#604 8 years ago

+1 to what Neo stated. If you are blowing a fuse upon power you may want to have a look at your bridge rectifiers amongst other bits. It's not the on/off switch its the power it is unleashing onto the machine.

What fuses are you blowing up power up? Let's start there.

#608 8 years ago

If you are taking out your house line you may want to have a look at you AC inline cord. When I buy a new machine one of the first things I do is replace the cord. IMO it's must for safety reasons.

Edit saw you were running through a power strip and removing that seems to have ceased the issue. Still check that cord. Make sure the ground plug is there, etc. Safety first.

#610 8 years ago

Were they hooked up and on when SoF was kicking the breaker?

#616 8 years ago

Insane work!

#625 8 years ago

I would take a look at all of the connections on the lamps on that row. Seems like you may have a short.

#627 8 years ago
Quoted from Luzur:

Huh.
Uh, anyone have a roadmap? LOL
Anyway, its the lights under the right kicker, the right plastics (Multi-ball Bonus) and under the right ramp and the plastics in the middle that shuts down when this fuse pops.

There's your map. Now go and have a look at those lamps and see if there are any shorts, loose wires, nicked wires, metal touching, etc. How are the connectors. The GI Inputs are known for getting nice and toasty.

#633 8 years ago

I got mine at my local hardware store for .60. I have a spare, PM me your addy and I will drop it in the mail on Monday.

#635 8 years ago
Quoted from Luzur:

Eh, it was the flatcable that was the culprit.

They are notorious. I replace all of mine when I buy a new cab. For $5 it's worth it. I spent 40 hours tracking down a problem on BSD to find out it was just the ribbon cable.
