This is the answer that I feared. I guess I will have to scrub/clean then spray the one I have now.

So here's the result after applying my vinyl decals to the mini playfield. I touched up the playfield with black paint, applied the decals, and then coated it with Rustoleum Ultimate Polyurethane Gloss. There's one coat on it now. I will do three coats to fill in the woodgrain and paint checking from the original surface so it is smooth, glossy, and durable.

Looks good from the pictures, have you tested the light from the insert? Are you going to have to use a concentrated flasher?

#455 8 years ago

I did not decal over the insert decal (sword) because:

- it didn't need it
- the white vinyl decal material would block the flasher
- there are already translucent sword decals available from a variety of suppliers (which I also have one of but don't need)

Thanks for the question. Another photo...

OK, working on getting the underside all cleaned up. I started to make a list of some parts I need to get rebuild kits, new coil sleeves, and new coil wrappers (I know, I know) and noticed I am rocking four different flipper coils: FL-11630, FL-11629, FL-11753, and FL-11722

I'm supposed to have a pair of FL-11630 for the bottom flippers and a pair of FL-11753 for the top no?

Also my drop target coils are AE-25-1000, but in the manual it states AE-26-1400. Is that ok?

If only everything could be as easy as polishing.

If anyone needs the little decals on the upper ramp and 5 bank drop target box, let me know. "Advance Bonus..." and "Moving Lit Target..." These are yellow text on black vinyl with mylar lamination. I made some when I realized my machine was missing them. I only charge for the cost of making them and mailing them. Send me a PM.

Oh man! Those are nice, but I made some several pages back. Yellow on clear. But I bet those will work ok for black ramps

Does anyone have the part number for the diverter plunger and matching coil spring? It looks like the diverter is A-13278 (2-1/16 inch long) but I wanted to make sure. In addition I can't find the part number for the coil spring for this one either (not the diverter 10-389 spring). Any ideas?

Since I've been making some digital artwork for decals lately, I also decided to make target decals. The stock stand up targets are plain white and get rather dirty and stained after years of use.

The artwork matches some of the plastics already used in the game. Below are pictures of the target decals that I printed on decal vinyl and laminated with mylar. There's a template line for cutting the circles that I cut out with cuticle scissors without difficulty. If interested in how to get these, send me a Private Message.

Working on a SOF tutorial. Messed up some on the rules but this was a cam test in 2k HD. I'll post the final when I have it but thought I'd share:

Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Alright, dont yell at me for asking, but what does that left spinner even do? I cant recall.

The left spinner was the one thing I couldn't figure out when I wrote a rules sheet for Swords back in the 1990s sometime. It advances in value, 1000 -> 1500 -> 2000 -> 1000+1500 -> 1000+2000 -> 1000+1500+2000, but I couldn't figure out what made it advance. I've since figured out that it self-advances; first time through it scores 1000 per spin, then about 3 seconds after it stops spinning it advances to the next value, repeat next time it's spun, etc.

While I've deidled, I might as well post and ask this: has anyone successfully converted the upper playfield miniflipper from a spring that's around the coil rod to the more modern design of an external return spring? There doesn't seem to be a lot of room there, and the internal return spring on my SoF has given up the ghost, and it seems like it would be a lot easier to rig up an external return spring than to disassemble the entire flipper mech to replace the internal spring that will just get worn out again by the repeated bashing of it by the flipper. Thoughts?

#469 8 years ago

I will be doing flipper upgrades this week. It will probably be a couple of weeks until the PF is re-assembled in its entirety again though.

#470 8 years ago

I just replaced all the flipper assemblies on my SOF. Purchased the complete assemblies from Pinball Life. So many of the original parts were worn that it just made sense. I don't understand the question about the mini flipper. If you just replace the original assembly with the correct new one, all is good. The game plays way better with new mechanisms. No problem at all to reach the back ramps with the lower pair of flippers - and using the correct coils.

#471 8 years ago

He's talking about replacing the traditional conical spring with a return spring the WPC era games have like here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-upgradingrebuilding-flippers

You get a much snappier flipper with way better action. Plus it prolongs the life of the plunger. It's a very simple upgrade that I highly recommend. I have done it to all of my games.

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! The only thing that concerns me is that there's not really a lot of space in that area, so that may present somewhat of a challenge.

#473 8 years ago

I see what you mean. Work is killing me. I have all of the parts ready to re-assemble my PF, I just lack the time. Hopefully someone else on here has done the upgrade and can report back sooner.

#474 8 years ago

Replaced the spring on mine, plenty of room.

#475 8 years ago

Just picked up a SoF this weekend! I'm having a small issue where the ball hops from the right lane guide. The lane guide has an indentation from being hit multiple times which I believe is the issue. I've tried repositioning it all the way forward and that helped some. Anyone know where I can get a replacement return guide? It looks like the part below but with only one hole for the bulb. http://www.actionpinball.com/parts.php?item=A-8108-R-2

#478 8 years ago

AArrrgg you people who just "pick one up" like everyday!

#479 8 years ago

Cracks me up. When people say they picked one up, they really mean they spent a butt load of cash.

#480 8 years ago

I miss mine. Wish had room to have kept it and a second machine. If I ever get the money and space to own multiple machines I will hunt this one down again

#481 8 years ago

By the way, what are these machines going for now? I bought mine for $800 I think, and sold it for $950 a year later. Probably could have held out for a bit more at the time since mine was in really great condition, but was really wanting to get money in my hand to buy my next pin.

#482 8 years ago

$1500-2000

#483 8 years ago

Hi Sof Crew.
Something puzzling me. Does your knocker sound on obtaining credit high score etc.
I moved the setting to coil and the knocker sounds but should it also sound in credit setting.
Also if you have 20 credits accumulated will it not add further credits unless money is inserted.
It mentions a ticket machine vend on obtaining credit never seen that as an add on before, brill idea. Anyone got one of these ticket machines?

#484 8 years ago

Just figured it out.
Coil setting just fires coil but no credit given
Credit setting fires coil and adds credit.

Please do not look if you get easily upset.
The most unloved, abused, neglected, water damaged Swords Of Fury in the world. It spent it's life in a roller-skating rink which closed down and was left to die. It's not mine but a friend on a UK Forum I follow paid £50 for it.
Such a sad sight. Believe it or not it still worked up to a point.

Thanks! Seemed only appropriate to put the two of them together.

Just ordered a bunch of parts for SoF. I'll have to post a picture of the balls that were in it when I got it--they were so old and nasty!

Good lord this thread got weird fast. Glad I sold....

...no im not.

#498 8 years ago

I'm actually blown away, the playfield on that wrecked SOF, once cleaned up, will probably be in better condition than mine (assuming there is no swelling or water damage to it).

#499 8 years ago

Judging from the 4th pic in his post, I'm gonna say not likely. Poor SOF.

Nonsense, i'd buy it in a second (only chance for me to afford a SoF LOL) and fix it up.
