Yesterday brought about mixed emotions for me. I was thrilled to pick up a nice TOTAN, but I also sold my Swords of Fury. This is the first machine that I have ever sold, and I'm really going to miss it. I put a lot of love into that pin, and it was playing perfectly. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for some of you guys to let go of machines that you have done full restores on.

I know exactly what you mean. With time and the addition of more pins it gets a bit easier. That is sweet you were able to pick up a TOTAN those are getting harder and harder to find.

I wasn't even actively trying to sell my SoF, but an offer fell in my lap that I couldn't refuse.

Get your wife (when she's not watching hardcore porn ) to yell "LIONMAN! LIONMAN! to you, that should lessen the sadness. (sorry, I couldn't resist)

#5 12 years ago

How dare you get rid of SOF! Now LIONMAN is gonna haunt you in your sleep
Congrats on TOTAN!!

I thought Sorcerer was on the Williams Collection.

It is, but I think he's referring to TOTAN.

SoF is a really nice game, I miss mine. You will feel the same.

Referring to TOTAN. I have the 360 version of the game and this is my only time playing it.... if you can even compare.

#11 12 years ago

I have a SoF coming my way in a few months. I will play the hell out of it for you.

#12 12 years ago

I picked up a SoF a little over a week ago. Pretty cool game. I like the music and artwork. I hate the swoosh, swoosh, swoosh sound every time you press the flipper buttons. So I installed a switch inside the cabinet that lets me cut out the secondary switches at the flipper buttons. Since those switches are needed for entering initials and for adjustments in the menu, you can enable the switches to do so. But otherwise you don't have to listen to the swoosh, swoosh, swoosh every time you hit the flippers.

#13 12 years ago

SoF seems very nice indeed, love the music. Someday i WILL own one.

The swoosh, swoosh can be a little strange at first, but after a while you don't even notice it. The one thing I never could figure out the entire time I owned the game was how to get the higher jackpot lights to illuminate on the backglass during a game. Perhaps I just wasn't a good enough player to make it happen.

So how much did you get for it?

When I got the game, the switch's ground wires were unplugged and there was switch errors for them on start up. I thought it was weird and plugged in the grounds. When I started a game I immediately knew why they were unplugged. The next day I installed the switch.

I haven't explored the higher jackpot scenario yet. SoF's multiball jackpot is hard to hit IMO.

#17 12 years ago

Ya I love SOF, but mine was a bit rough, sold it to a friend to make room for other pins. I can still play it at his place

The jackpot just builds from game to game I think..until collected..

"Like most games of this era, it has 7-digit scoring, and a jackpot that ranges in value from 500K to 4M, held over from game to game slowly building till collected. When collected, the jackpot drops to 500K and builds from there; when a game (or multiple games at once) finish and credits are 0, the jackpot increases to a minimum of 1.5M."

I did find the game a bit easy though, I rolled it over MANY times....that's the one downfall that I didn't like..

That would explain why I never saw the higher jackpots. It was rare for me to play a game where I didn't collect the jackpot, and I was pretty much the only one in my family that ever played SoF.

$1,300.

I've rolled it once but I have yet to roll it twice in the same game; my high is around 18M.

#20 12 years ago

Wow, I expected to see at least $2500.

Wow! I've never seen one go for anything close to that. Mine was in very nice shape, but it wasn't perfect. There was some bubbling in the mylar, and some insert wear as well. I picked it up for $1150 and thought I overpaid a little, especially considering there were some broken plastics that I didn't notice. I fixed some of the inserts with new decals, put on a full set of repro plastics, and fully LED'd it. When all was said and done, I probably still took a small loss on it.

#22 12 years ago

I feel a little better, I gave $1350 for mine. Going off the eBay sales numbers and what Pinside says, I overpaid. But I've been looking for one and it turned up when I was on a trip picking up a different machine. I was over four hours from home, here's the machine I want in great shape, I'd be stupid to leave without it. Luckily my van holds two pins.

#23 12 years ago

2500 for SOF? I paid less for pretty much all my DMD pins I've ever had....

2500 from a ripoff dealer maybe....

I paid about 1000 for mine...

#24 12 years ago

Just for fun, I found the original thread I started over at KLOV when I first bought the machine ...

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=148447

It's interesting to look back at a more naive version of myself. If I knew then what I know now, I definitely would have noticed the cracked plastics and bubbling in the mylar. I also would have called the seller out for describing the machine as "mint". Overall, the game was in great shape, but the seller definitely took advantage of a newbie. I bet he picked it up for $700-800.

#25 12 years ago

So me paying 450 for mine was a really good deal (70% working). I figured a SOF in 100% working order would be worth more but it seems I figured wrong from what you guys are telling me. So far with my restore going on I got about 700 into mine now not counting the time...so I'm right in line I reckon.

I see this is a year old topic, but i bought SoF in Poland for 250€. Lifetime deal.

#27 11 years ago

Heh, I forgot to mention that I bought my Swords of Fury for $500, but it's definitely a player's machine, since the lettering on the inserts are half-worn off and the playfield is covered in those little semi-circle scratches, and the cabinet is a bit beaten up in spots as well. Sadly after over a decade of the flippers working perfectly, I've had two flippers die on me in the last two years.

I figure the only way I'll let it go is if I get an awesome deal on one in better shape.

#28 11 years ago

Why did you have to bring this thread back to life? It makes me sad all over again. And the funny thing is that I no longer own the TOTAN either.

#29 11 years ago

Guys, i was thinking if SoF is worth restoring (insert decals, playfield touch ups, clearcoating,...) and this topic convinced me to do so.
Machine is in terrible condition (not such a good deal in the end), it needs love and huge amount of work.
gweempose:why did you sell your TOTAN?
TOTAN is really bugging me by balls getting magnetised and stuck in ball loader. This is only flaw of TOTAN, it is a superb machine, in my opinion better than MM.

#30 11 years ago

I sold the TOTAN because I really wanted an AC/DC premium. I miss the TOTAN, but I play the AC/DC more.

Did you try one of these to address your trough issues?
