I was having the phantom tilt problem and the game was also randomly indicating a drain mid game. Also would sometimes just start a new game (zero score) during a game. So I started checking diodes to see if anything was loose. The capacitor on the right flipper just fell off with barely a tap. So I replaced it with the same (0.1uF 50V) and now it burns up when I hit the right flipper. So I guess there are a couple of things going on here, obviously the burning capacitor and the random Tilt. No battery damage on the board and no hacks. All diodes are not crumbling in my hand. Any ideas?

I don't own this pin, so I'm just going by the schematic (below).

Looking at the caps on the flipper buttons - those are rated at 500V. You sure about the 50V rating? Have you looked at the other caps and verify their voltage? 50V sounds low, 500V sounds better.

Rather odd that just one cap burns up, given there's two flippers (lower, upper) with identical circuits. Just for the sake of thoroughness, did you unsolder a diode and check it with a meter? Probably wouldn't hurt checking the flipper voltage while you're at it with a meter.

Looking at the schematic below, which cap burns up?

Flipper button cabinet switches should have .1 uf @ 500 volt capacitors wired across the switch.

Quoted from DavidCPA:

That sounds like the one that is used on regular playfield switches.
