Jady, as usual, your work is over the top! I can’t wait to get this mod.

#152 2 years ago

Amazing that this became a reality. Very awesome! Has the foot pedal design changed at all, or is it the same blue/yellow from the 3rd pic posted at the beginning of this thread? Also, so I’m clear, the foot pedal cable is no longer going through the coin door with a custom plate, right? Will there be some sort of magnets attached to the cable so that we can affix to the leg?

Here you go!
So excited about your mod!

I like the coindoor cable access I don’t want to drill my cabinet .
Besides it will look like a proton cable attachment point .
Give me the plate!

The plate is an on/off feature as well. So it is nice to have both options, drill or no drill.

Answer 1:
For the foot pedal, I have not designed anything rather adapted a industrial foot switch that looks the part, feels nice and being industrial will cope with kids standing on it etc etc.

The colours are:
- Grey / Light Orange (they call it yellow but I see it as orange myself)
- Grey / Grey

The issue these things are hard to get in any colour, still waiting on 10 from 3 weeks ago - 5 in each colour.

Before anyone starts claiming a colour it will be what ever I can get at a reasonable price as I got 1 and then a further 10 at $25 each but they go right up to $50 each. I am basing the mod price on the $25 mark and will wear a $5-10 higher price but not more that will be passed on.

So when I do a batch of 10 I will be offering to the person who is buying multiples first a colour choice and then the single buyers in the order of the waitlist.

Or what I can do is when I send out prices and will be sending a message to everyone you let me know your colour PREFERENCE which won't be a guarantee, sorry.

These are powder coated so don't really want to paint as is painted to handle work boots etc.

Foot Switches (resized).pngFoot Switches (resized).png

Answer 2
I will be giving each custom a option of:
- through the door
or
- through the base
at the time a batch is started when I order the professionally 3D printed parts and then you are locked in as not going to carry many spares. I will explain this more soon in a separate post.

Answer 3
I will be supplying 1-2 sticker back cable anchor pads that you can stick inside the leg to secure the cables to. I can't show you yet as have been in lock down for 7-8 weeks and only essential shops open so can't get what I need. Magnets and 3d printed parts are more dollars and just something I will try and can put a 3d file up for people to order or print from.

hope that helps

Great point and one I will expand on soon.

Everyone gets a coin door plate ....

But the difference is the front cover plate, one will be cable entry and one will be clean finished so cable comes through the base.

exactly the front cover plate is the on/off switch, light and cable entry or no cable entry.

the only thing is I will give you the option of one plate at the time of confirming your placement in the next paint where I will check:
- are you still wanting the mod as it will be ready in 3-4 weeks
- what is your colour preference for the foot pedal
- do you prefer cable entry through the base or the door

#158 2 years ago

Update - 9-10-21

- I got the prices back from the professional 3D printing specialists in Singapore - Zelta 3d and I should have mod prices ready very very soon today / tomorrow
- Manual is 90% finished and I can't fully finish as I won't have finish photos of the through base component but there will be enough for you to read and help you decide if you want the mod and feel comfortable in installing.

Now an answer to a common question I get from people in message. Typically comments have been:
- why don't you 3d print on a home printer
- it would be cheaper for us if you home printed
- professional 3D printing is expensive and makes the mod expensive

So my stand point on this is:
- I am a mechanical engineer by trade and use to build light aircraft and CNC machinery etc and I have a cnc router and 3d printer but my view on home printers is great for concept but not great for mechanical working parts or parts that need to look professional.
- I also don't like making hollow / semi-hollow prints - much prefer solid nylon filled parts so are stable to heat, cold and impact so all my parts are professional 3d printed parts. I have made over 350 x Snackbar mods and never a issue and should last as long as the game and sure the guys on the list that have the Snackbar Mod can vouch for quality.
- I also like to tap threads for bolts into my parts and home printing does not handle well.
- in the end you get what you paid for: it goes against my grain to supply inferior home printed parts - maybe anal of me but I want to stand by my product.

Some people / experts will disagree but end of the day it is my approach and my priority is quality over price.

now some explanation of the coin door plate.

- everyone who gets the mod gets a coin door plate but will get an option of one cover plate only - cable through or not.
- I have never showed the back but this mod has alot to it - as it is not just 2 mechs, but also a full coin door component and power pack / foot switch component hence the cost and complexity to the design - don't worry it is easy to install and manual is up to 50 photos across 40 pages.

- v1 - proto-production like in the photos up to this point look like this - front. The sides of the front cover plate did have a slight 10 degree taper but showed stepping - this is now slightly different.

coin door v1 front (resized).pngcoin door v1 front (resized).png

- v2 - proto-production - back. This has now changed alot for the back as while it worked and houses the 2 x servo driver boards and terminal strip once wires go in there it is too busy and congested - I understand what is going on but it can be done better. On this v1 the cables are coming through the same place multiple cables are going in and out of the terminal strip. the v2 production units will be much better on the backside.

coin door v1 back (resized).pngcoin door v1 back (resized).png

#160 2 years ago

Production Version 2

- this is the design that you guys will get for the coin door.
- Parts will be ordered for the mod with the coin front panel being specific to what you would like
- cables through coin door - v2a
- cables through cabinet base - v2b
- The back of the coin door plate is the same for everyone and v2a and v2b
- cables can now come through under the servo driver boards and use available gaps to circle around, terminal strip easier to use and now with a clear L=Left and R=Right engraving for servo driver boards to remove any confusion when cables are connected. Having Servo Boards on top will be now easier to see and access.
Coin Door v2a back1 (resized).pngCoin Door v2a back1 (resized).png
Coin Door v2a back2 (resized).pngCoin Door v2a back2 (resized).png

- The front v2a will still have cables pass through. The black rectangle is high quality vinyl car wrap - matt black so once you installed it will hide the SS grained plate but you can always remove for the SS grained SS look. Also for the US guys that have a volume control you can drill a hole in the section with the black vinyl and hook up your gadgets.
- I will wire the foot switch and power to the terminal strip.
Coin Door v2a front (resized).pngCoin Door v2a front (resized).png

- The front v2b is dedicated for the guys that want to hide the cables through the base. The front cover plate is the only difference and I have spaced the switch and led out a little.
Coin Door v2b front (resized).pngCoin Door v2b front (resized).png

- For the v2b guys that want to send the cables through the base I will supply professionally printed cabinet bungs. Basically you drill a 13mm / 1/2" hole in the cabinet base near the front leg and insert one bung underneath and another inside the cabinet. This cleans up the cabinet and seals off any drilled holes and fasten using your screws / bolts of preference and then cable tie the cable on either side of the bungs to anchor the cable.
- I will NOT wire the foot switch and power to the terminal strip as the cables need to pass through the base and cabinet base bungs.

Very helpful, thank you for the detailed explanation!

Will you be able to share pics of the production unit for BOTH options? More so interested in what the outside cabinet appearance will look like with the foot pedal and cable. If you are not drilling your cabinet I understand but maybe a mock-up would work here.

Also for people with powder coated coin doors, what is our option with the plate? I assume that’s metal and can be powder coated but the front cover plate I assume is plastic, right? It can be removed?

Even with powder-coat door black pate will look cool. With a mod like this why would you want it to blend in? Let it stand out and be proud!

here is my cabinet with the cable tucked in, sadly no cable tie anchors just yet so cable not quite in the right place as have been in lockdown so makes hard to go a certain distance to get parts etc. But this will give you a idea. You could stop the spiral wrap and then be able to tuck the cable in horizontally more so.

GB18 (resized).JPGGB18 (resized).JPG

the plate is stainless steel so you could powdercoat or keep it the semi matt black industrial look but the cover that houses the swicth and led can be dis-assembled and painted but no powdercoated as is solid nylon.

GB15 (resized).JPGGB15 (resized).JPG

Keep in mind that for the Aussie games will only have a small hole and the US and Italian games have a larger hole so I apply so matt black vehicle vinyl wrap or have some carbon fibre looking vinyl wrap.

I do agree, gives that industrial bolt on look but still looks nice - not going to scuff up.

The orange foot pedal is a similar colour to the old Ecto 1 number plate magnet I scored way back when.

Update - 10-10-21

- 1st manual in Rev1 status - 48 pages - 6000 words don't worry lots of photos and I rather inform people instead of selling a mod with little to no instructions.
- the manual is not complete as I need parts for the v2b when I order the first batch of parts, then more photos will be added and it will be replaced with a rev2 manual but this is a good first look.
- this is for those interested to help them decide on moving forward and I will have prices finalised by the end of the day and will post up soon.

Can't wait!

#170 2 years ago

Thanks everyone for the interest in the thread and via PM for this mod

The list is up to 40 with a max of 54 and I have the 1st making 55 units in total.

Read the details in this attachment and let me know via message:

- if you are still in or out (I will not be offended if too much or not integrated to your expectation)
- your preference for a 2va or 2vb
- your preference for the pedal colour which I will try my hardest to make it come true for you, but comes down to pedal availability.

Once I start hearing from people and hit at least 15 people I will start ordering parts and the first 10 should be ready in the 3-4 weeks to send out and I will go from there.

If I don't hear from you I will be reach out in a few days - if you wait too long you will be bumped down the list.

Please be understanding of my position on the mod as this is the best I can do - re price and level of use / integration.

If I can find a better payment option with less fees (open for suggestions) I can reduce the cost of mod total as the price does factor in $25 paypal merchandise fees.

Hey Jady was wondering if I did not want the power plate on the outside, could one be made for inside cabinet? I actually was wondering why a power button is needed? I would probably prefer to just plug and play and keep it on when the game is on(lower cost?). If I did not want it being used I could unplug foot pedal or dis-connect mod from inside the cabinet? Also I have no problem drilling the bottom of my cabinet for hole but why not have an extension run through back hole ports already there for foot pedal? I personally do not like the look of the wire coming out of coin door. What I would like is nothing on coin door-wires fed through rear, yellow footswitch, and a pink proton on right and blue proton on left. My wife has offered to buy me this mod as a present-she is a keeper

Hi mate
I will try and answer your questions:
- I originally was only ever going to go through the coin door, and the cabinet option just came about a week ago for people for the cable pass-through.
- I thought the power button and light was just a cool look but unless connected to the games power circuit it would always stay on meaning power to foot pedal and servos even while the game is off - will just shorten the life and could be a potential issue in the future.
- The power required is 5vdc / 1amp and all the power boards supplied by pinball life and the like that plug into Stern's boards only handle 5vdc / 1/2 Amp draw as a max so a power pack is required.
- As for using the meshed back hole ports = longer cabling for the foot pedal with a visible cable join probably still on the ground, drill a hole in the mesh and the cable has more leverage to be pulled and moved around and hard to protect against sharp cut mesh - not my preference and a damage risk.
- cable out of the coin door was option 1 and cable through the base is option 2 - gives you choices
- That all said in regards to power, Aussie games do not have a power plug in option inside the machine so if yours does you could use that port or if you want to provide your own power I can discount you $25 AUD but then you have to wire in switch power light and supply your own power.
- The blue 3mm LEDs are just very light on intensity and not that impressive to be honest, things change when you step up to 5mm but the allowance and space is not there. 3mm Pink LEDs just had a nice intensity compared to the other colours.
- Lastly the knockout replacement power plate that houses the servo driver boards, terminal strip as well as the cover plate that houses the on/off button can just sit inside the game on the coin box if you wish.

In summary:
The mod is available as is and you can modify if you wish and place the plate on the coin box instead of the door and you can extend the foot pedal cable and go through the back holes if you desire. But if you hack then I can't cover you for failed items.

That makes sense and I appreciate the explanation. I am in for a kit and will pm you my preferences. I have my GB hooked up to a remote control switch that powers everything down so it would work if I decide to just keep mod on? For $25 not worth finding own power supply and voiding warranty. I will probably place inside cabinet somewhere? I do think going out the back through mesh is the way I want to go. I may Velcro under cabinet and have drop down in front? So excited to see this missing feature scrapped from factory come into fruition and I appreciate your efforts in making it happen.

Not being code based I keep thinking of how to implement my own rule sets to apply while playing

...It can be used x times per game

...It can be used during x modes

...Newbies can hold the pedal to the medal

Curious what rule set may have been from factory?

Yes not integrated / code based is a bummer but would of added another $200-$300 for boards, wiring and people would also have to solder on to switches potentially resulting in a very small amount sold. Plus I am not a programmer so I can't do it.

I found my kids to stand on the proton foot switch for most of the game at first, BUT now there flipper skills have improved alot and they use the foot switch randomly now

#184 2 years ago

That is one thing that attracts me is the wow factor for my guest and assistance for novice players. Ghostbusters can be brutal and I feel this foot pedal switch may help a bit. It is super badass and fits the theme perfect! I have a feeling this will be one of the coolest mods ever made.

if you check out post #2 or read the manual that I posted a few posts above I showed what was planned by Stern but canned

It was never going to be ball interactive, rather some weird bent streams with lights and they swung it maybe during a mode ???

Put it this way my 9yr old son loves Ghostbusters Movie 1 and 2 and that has helped with the game a little, everyone loves the sounds and art but hate the drains. Since putting them in my son and 12 yr daughter love the game and play it often - so in summary has made the game much more fun for them. For me while I could just stand on the foot switch I challenge not to use during multiballs but if I am getting close in a mode use them so helping me see more of the game - as I am only a average player.

I could be wrong and probably am but I think this is the first ball interactive mod, the mod changes ball path direction that you have control over - I am very happy with it.

Update - 11-10-21

I can't order the 3D parts unit I know the first 10 people on the current list as the coin door front covers vary and the pedals vary.

If I do not hear anything back from those that jumped on the list but who have not replied to the pm (sent today 11th Oct) by the end of this weekend (by 17th Oct) all the people that have already responded will be bumped up the list to be made first as I will order the first batch of parts at the latest next Monday (18th Oct) with the other non responding people dropping behind the people that have replied.

Then if I hear nothing after 2 weeks (by 24th Oct) from the non-responding people you will be removed off the list - as I will assume you no longer want the mod.

I am all cool for those that think the mod and postage is too much, not liking the level of earned use or if you have other priorities come up - I totally understand and respect your final decision - all I ask is please let me know as I hate assuming you no longer want it but it will help the other guys keen to get it.

as for Stats
- 40 units allocated on the list prior to the price and manual release
- 15 units confirmed and keen throughout the list
- 4 units dropped off the list

* I say units as some people want multiple kits

Update - 14-10-21

- Ended up ordering the full first batch of professionally printed parts so I can do either option (cables through door or cabinet) as wanting to speed this first batch up and get them to customers
- Ordered 1 batch worth of servo's and drivers ordered
- Ordered second batch of foot pedals as so far it has been 1 month waiting for the 1st batch which was 5 x Orange and 5 x Grey and ordered the same again from a different supplier - they just don't offer more than 5 in each colour. Just hard to get at a competitive price so grabbing what I can. So when I am completing kits I will be working through the list in the wait list in priority order and offering what I have and / or they should get what they want if they missed out on their colour of choice in the next batch. Currently colours confirmed are 13 picking Grey and 10 picking Orange

Stats of 40 on the list when pricing and manual sent out:
- 25 confirmed but only 23 confirmed cable entry and pedal colour wanting on clarity from the remaining 2
- 9 have not responded or finalised their status
- 6 have cancelled

and

- 1 new person added to the list

I am hoping to have 1st batch of Proton Guns out in approx 3-4 weeks time and then order parts for Batch 2 when I get some funds back from the 1st Batch.

Please understand my situation as I am a one man show and not asking for cash up front so for me a little high risk for this high part cost and high cost mod - I will endeavor to supply everyone their preference in pedal colour.

Thanks for all the support to date, it is very much appreciated.

Regards

Jady

Update - 17-10-21

- We are nearing the 1 week in since messages went out so if you haven't responding by tomorrow morning Aus Time - those that have not responded will be bumped to the back of the list - I will re-bump your message today some time.
- All the parts have been ordered with some parts needed to be ordered for 20 to 40 batches worth

I have have had a few messages from various people checking price, code integrated and will the balls fit down the outlanes:
- The final price is $820 Australia via Paypal Mechandise payment - which equates to approx $600USD + postage
- It is not code based so not a earned feature. This would be more $ and need some soldering by the customer which currently this is plug, screw in and play.
- It does have 2 different modes to setup for us - activate foot switch to use and hold the protons on OR momentary use = push the foot switch and they close the lane and they immediately return to the home position - makes it more challenging and timing becomes more important. These will be sent in the easier mode.
- And most common is when the proton guns / streams are NOT activated the BALL DOES fit and go down the outlanes. I will do a video very soon showing this.

Update - 19-10-21

- parts are arriving though still waiting on printed parts and foot pedals x 2 batches
- list is updated as per following:
* 31 - confirmed
* 7 - cancelled
* 2 - new interested people added to the list.
* 2 - have not responded / confirmed so they will be bumped to the end of the list behind the newly interested people until next weekend and if they still haven't reached out they will be removed from the list.

I will give it until the end of the weekend to then reach out to those on the list (people 1-10) inthe order of their inquiry and then give you the final option of foot pedal colour as more people want the grey pedal so if they still want it they may have to wait until it comes in with my second order and I will push the orange ones out from the list between 1-10 on the list and then the those on the list between 10-20 that showed interest for the orange foot pedal. Sorry I am at the mercy of freight during covid and slow deliveries from certain companies.

2 videos will be posted:
- 1 - showing the ball can pass through when the protons are not used, and that the protons can block the lanes and the protons can deflect a ball heading towards the outlane.
- 2 - showing you how I tune up the proton servos and servo boards and how you would fine tune the adjustment to suit your game once installed.

This is just a quick video in response to a couple of inquires about the Proton Gun Mod:

- Shows that the ball can still go down the outlanes when the Proton Guns are not used or not activated.
- Shows that the proton guns can stop the ball by blocking the outlanes
- Shows that you can use the Proton Gun Mod to hit the ball and with the right timing and deflect away from the outlane.
- Shows that it can catch the ball midway down the outlane with no issues or damage.

And lastly shows that I can't always direct the ball to the outlane

Cringe! I don't even know what year it is anymore. I would blame covid, but it's more likely the leaded solder fumes...
