Have a friend that is getting a surfer from his dad. He tells me when turned on it just runs. Said he can hear it running but does not stop. I haven't looked at it yet and have no clue where to start on an em any help is appreciated

There is most likely an issue within the "start sequence" of the game. It helps to know the sequence when troubleshooting. Adding to the link above, this is where the sequence info is - http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index3.htm#start
This comes up often here as well but it's best to come armed with a bit more specific information obtained from watching the sequence so the bugs can be narrowed down a bit. You can also look on the game operation page of the manual for that pin and it will give you the whole game play sequence.
