Just a friendly reminder gang: try and generally stay off politics. I know that is hard when discussing a tax, and this tax is directly pertinent to many people in this hobby. Let’s keep this topic going so people can stay informed on implementation of the court ruling and what not.

Apologies for what is probably a silly question, but is there a sales tax applied when buying a floor model machine? Does being a floor model make the items simply used and a second hand purchase?

I’m fairly confident the answer is the sales tax would still apply since it is from a retailer but perhaps that is not always the case in every state? I’ve never bought a used machine from a retailer so please pardon my ignorance in asking the question.

    Quoted from Lermods:

That’s just federal government revenue, it’s not the full tax base as it doesn’t include local sales tax, state income tax, property tax and whatever other taxes we are subject too. Keep in mind that those higher taxed countries provide free healthcare and education.

It also doesn't include deficit spending or any number of other factors. There is a reason the US has 19 aircraft carrier groups (not just carriers, but full naval armadas with support ships and all)...we pay a lot in taxes to the government. Just look at 2018 estimated gross revenue of the US (fed, state, and local)...it's $6.21 trillion...

Compare that annual number to another country...any other country...

Alright gang, the team has decided no more discussion on the positives or negatives on a national level of taxes, government spending, social security, entitlement programs, income taxes, or any related matter.

We believe this thread can provide useful information to people on this new ruling and the implementation of the ruling that does substantially increase what many people (not all people) were paying for their NIB machines. Feel free to continue discussing the sales tax issue itself and when and where and how it is being implemented, but no more discussion on the underlying merits of taxation.

Zero tolerance. For the next fifteen minutes we will delete anything not squarely on topic (in case someone was typing as this message was being relayed) and then it is thread ejection for any violation or partial violation.

    Thank you. Mod team.
