    Quoted from flashinstinct:

I'll give you the healthcare and education but I won't give you the roads. You guys have by far the best maintained roads in north america and I should know. I've driven most of the US (70%) and most of Canada (80%). I dare you to drive in Quebec in spring.

OK Quebec sucks sometimes, but my god I hate driving on roads in so many USA states. The condition is downright deplorable in many of them.

Yeah you just keep living under a rock and thinking that. Everything is just great isnt it? The only good thing is that it may not affect you Levi but who gives a shit about future generations right?

    Future bottom-feeders, am I right?!

Look, I think you read me wrong. Im all for protecting and saving social security. It’s not that tough to do.

I’m not for scrapping it and replacing it with some scam rich people come up with to screw us all and take the money for themselves. Not good for the future generations. And every pitch that starts with “social security is about to go tits up!!!!!” always Ends with an informercial for said scam. Every single time.

Some people struggle with math, i get it, but 2+2 has to equal 4 at some point, which means "entitlement reform" is coming over the next decade.

We have a system whereby more and more people are retiring and living longer with less younger people paying into the system. No need to scrap it, just adjust it or it won't be there for future generations.

Raise the full retirement age to 68 and lower mandatory rmd's to the same age. And mix in a bit of means testing and you can kick the can down the road for a few more decades.

    Quoted from Aurich:

I've never cared for this argument. Money isn't some infinite thing, at a certain point you can't afford it, but also at a certain point it's not worth it.
Sure, if you're willing to spend $5400 maybe you're okay with $5800, but when does it stop? When Stern bumps up prices again, as they keep doing, and a Pro passed the $6k point do you keep buying? It's a far cry from when it was only $4500, and that wasn't too long ago.
I dunno about everyone else, but the money I make isn't going up at the same rate pin prices are.

But your cost of living is pretty freaking expensive.

    #306 5 years ago

Hilarious watching people cry about taxes, when they voted for them.

Try driving most of your driving in Sask, we have the most roads per capita on earth, we cant even afford to take care of them. Makes the rest of the world look unreal!

Also, the western States roads are fantastic.

I'm not worried about Social Security running out.

I'll be collecting it when many here will still be working high paying jobs to support their fancy car and NIB pinball habits well into their 60s and maybe 70s. And of course they will be on paying into it.

    What me worry?

Interesting how a post that started out talking about new sales tax rules has morphed into a general discussion on taxes in general.

Amazon bitched about collecting sales tax for quite a long time and got a free ride at the expense of the brick and mortar stores. Amazon finally got too big too ignore and has been charging sales tax (to me anyway) for the last couple of years. Apple has been charging me sales tax for a long time so nothing new for these two large outfits.

But Amazon also sells Amazon Services which is some sort of computer time to small companies. Since Amazon already has the sales tax angle worked out for every city and county in the country, I'm guessing that Amazon will consider selling its "sales tax capabilities and services" to all of the mom's and pop's stores in the country. It is just a guess and I could be wrong but it is not outside the realm of possibility.

    Quoted from PiperPinball:

In California we are hammered with crazy taxes. The highest state income tax (other than NY), fuel tax, property tax, energy tax, tax on everything. So many taxes I don't think everyone realizes how taxed we really are. The moment we wake up everyday we are taxed for everything we do and most don't realize it.

New Governor of NJ wants to be the California of the east coast.

    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

New Governor of NJ wants to be the California of the east coast.

Well at least maybe he won't shut the beach down while his own fat ass lounges on the sand, or cause 4-hour traffic jams to settle petty beefs, or raise gas prices 20 cents a gallon, or use the state helicopter to go to little league games and Springsteen concerts and....

    Bring on the memes!

    And pinball.

It's not really THAT interesting. A discussion on flipper rubber would become political if the mods would allow it.

No shit, we all know that. The rich don't pay taxes either but continue to bitch about it.

And, they've got the middle class convinced that this is all good as someday the rich and corporations paying no taxes will help make all of us peasants rich. Also they've got us convinced that the other reason we aren't all rich (besides the rich paying too many taxes) is because poor people get food stamps so they aren't dying in the streets of hunger.

It sucks but what are you gonna do about it? Fuck it, let's go play some pinball.

Let's bitch about 4% GDP growth, never above 2% in the previous 8 yrs, lowest unemployment rate in 40 yrs, including minorities. Not enough workers for the jobs available.

The middle class have woken up. Just not in New York and California

Actually that's not true, a huge swath of Cali middle class are exiting in huge numbers. What's left in the bay area are rich elites and homeless.

And look at the state they are in.....no thanks

Look at Ice's suggestions to fix Social Security - raise the retirement age to 74 when raising taxes on the rich would accomplish the job. This is the mentality. The rich have won. Economic inequality will continue to grow, your grandmother will spend her golden years working at Wal-Mart and eating dog food. We are all fucked. Except rich people they are gonna be fine. They are richer than EVER before - by a huge margin, it's not even close - and still bitch about paying taxes.

Hey at least I have no kids and a shitload of pinball machines. I'll make a fun time of it!

Raise it to 68, not 74. That's "full retirement" age. You can still pull SS at 62.

And i suggest making the "rich" take out IRA's/401k's at 68 and pay taxes sooner.

It's just a math issue, once again, people are living MUCH longer and the baby boomer generation are going to drain the system.

You can take 100% of the top 1% "rich" people's income and it would pay SS for about a week.

And as usual, you don't ever read anything, I also said mix in some "means testing", which is another way to "tax the rich" that don't need SS.

So stay closed minded Levi and see how that works out.

Maybe you should run for office! Look at what happened in the Bronx. A socialist/communist wave is coming!

I just made a purchase of large ticket items from a Online retailer. Guess law hasn't gone into place yet.
I noticed they had put line items in place that said "Not Taxable"

Maybe this isn't going to impact things immediately.

    #321 5 years ago
    Quoted from TechnicalSteam:

The new Supreme Court permits states to pass laws requiring online retailers to collect sales tax and remit to the state. So it'll take a little while for the states to draft and pass legislation (though this will be quick and non-controversial most places I would think). And then there will probably be a phase-in period in the legislation to allow online retailers time to update their software and systems to handle tax collection.

I worked with some of the brightest luminaries of Silicon Valley for 20+ years and a majority of them were focused on building cool shit and didn't let money cloud/dominate/distract them.

I understand your tribe is jealous of the enormous wealth creation in the bay area, and there are definitely challenges with the homeless, however this idea that "elites" sit around counting their money while kicking the homeless in the butt couldn't be a more ridiculous characterization. We have a homeless shelter a few blocks from my place and our community supports the homeless with almost no help from the federal government.

Ummm ... The average age that males in the US die is at age 68. So I vote no on that! I want to retire before I die ... please!. They can collect my 401k withdrawal taxes when I retire and before I die instead of the long delay of when my kids would pay the tax on my remaining 401k inheritance. Tax on that delayed income would be sooner.

    Agree to respectfully disagree ...

    #327 5 years ago

Funny I'm 46 and can't retire until 68 or go to 70 for a little more or 72 for full benefits. The new tax law screwed all of us with not being able to right off your state tax. As a construction job you have no more right offs for lodging, food,tools,etc... You now have to pay tax on money you never had that was taken by tax and we are all worried that a nib pin is going to be taxed. Wake the f up people.

Does 68 include men who died as infants or kids? Gotta believe life expectancy for say, men who are 50 now is a fair bit higher than 68

UPDATE: a US man turning 50 today could expect to live til 82 on average

I love the tribe in the Bay Area making cool innovative stuff. I’ve made a lot of $$$ off those guys. Thank you

Btw, the Bay Area 1% ers and evil corporations need to stop it!

Inequality is awful. All of those paychecks need to be redistributed for the good of the country.

We could solve SS by taking all of Apples cash horde and all publicly traded company profits until the debt is paid off and entitlements are in good shape?

Or, like this Amazon tax, let’s just raise the sales tax on a national basis for all the transactions

And add another layer of tax on top of that for luxury items so the rich really get F ed

Alright gang, the team has decided no more discussion on the positives or negatives on a national level of taxes, government spending, social security, entitlement programs, income taxes, or any related matter.

We believe this thread can provide useful information to people on this new ruling and the implementation of the ruling that does substantially increase what many people (not all people) were paying for their NIB machines. Feel free to continue discussing the sales tax issue itself and when and where and how it is being implemented, but no more discussion on the underlying merits of taxation.

Zero tolerance. For the next fifteen minutes we will delete anything not squarely on topic (in case someone was typing as this message was being relayed) and then it is thread ejection for any violation or partial violation.

    Thank you. Mod team.
