I'm test printing the hollow block today. My first attempt I foolishly forgot to add extra supports in the hollow spaces. It did not go well I added them in the slicer for this go and will confirm proper fit on the FDM printers. After, I will print the block in yellow (need to get filament) and the question mark itself in white.

I test printed the block today it went fine. I think I'll try the SLA model which prints with the right support settings. My yellow filament is in next week I'll do the final then

I was trying to figure out a place to put a Yoshi. That upper playfield area doesn't have a good place...

Good to hear.

quick update

after i repaired my fdm 3 d Printer i was able to do some prototypes.

It disturbs me that the kiker on the rigth side is to low. because of the woodpart.
So when you have a multibal and there are more Balls in that lane, the pinball hase some problem untill he can throw all balls out.
i wantet that to make that the balls are guided and one after the other will ejected without that the next ball is blocking this one.
hope this is understandble in my english vocabular..

do you have the same problem or is this only on my machine?
are you interestet in this?

you can see my lane is brocken but i will do it that it will fit on a not brocken lane.

im in the final prototyp phase it just needs onla a little more change so all works great and well

Yes, I can have the same issue if I am too fast hitting into the castle (rarely happens) or if I hit an additional ball into the Question shot at the same time a ball is coming down from the castle. I actually just consider it part of gameplay and try to not do that, especially if it tries to hit both balls out at once and they go down the middle.

I am still waiting on my yellow filament, then I will print the block and install with pictures.

#11 3 years ago

Finally got my yellow in... That color in particular seems hard to find right now. My 2 part print is finished. I think it turned out well. I did modify the question marks to add a lip so that they "clicked" in place into the block.PXL_20210305_155958957 (resized).jpgPXL_20210305_155958957 (resized).jpg
I preferred that over glue. I can share that modified file if there is interest. In the machine I think it fits in quite well... granted the lamp is still too bright.
PXL_20210305_160726251 (resized).jpgPXL_20210305_160726251 (resized).jpg

Now that I have yellow, I may tackle that warp pipe next... Those zip ties bug me.

That looks Perefkt. I think there are some people how would like to have your updatetd Files

The Yellow would be perfect for that pipe. Im curious what you ar doing there.

#13 3 years ago

So a Little Update.

I changed the file for more improfments.
still not Perfect but now it has no problem to eject the balls. 3 balls in 3 seconds
in the Video you can see the secend one is still stuck. i working on a last final try this should fix it.

I've got the pipe drawn up, I made some brackets to hold it to the wireform and avoid the zip ties. I tested the bracket design today, it held very tightly. I'll test print the full pipe tomorrow and if it goes well, upload either here or to thingiverse.

Nice Job

I had been using Tinkercad for the design...I did not realize the limitation on segments for circles. I have 2 sets of files here

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11S8RnVwfQDxKy6VENp_WMJ-9zeGLtgQC?usp=sharing

that come from that program. On my printer, even at the highest segment setting, I am not sure I am happy with the "circular" shape of the pipe. I may try to revise on a different program.

There are 2 versions at the link, one with 2 sided brackets, meaning the bracket will be visible at the player location. The second, I removed half of the bracket on the player side to make it appear to be floating. Both versions in my test prints held well to the wireform. Obviously, the 2 sided bracket was much harder to remove, but I think neither would slip. I personally will go for the 1 sided version.

For reference, the picture is of the wireform (out of the machine) with the single side bracket printed at the highest segment setting possible. As you can see, the bracket is not visible (but my cracked original is...) but possibly also visible is some segmentation in the curve.

Works great on my Machine.
I like how simple it is designed.
Holds very thight.
I thinking on make a second shorter one. wich goes on the lower part of the guide.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice, glad it worked out. It is always good to confirm that the bracket works on someone else's wire form.

I'm wondering if to put one lower, the pipe would need to be thinner, and the brackets closer to avoid the ball hanging up? I tried to leave this one the same dimensions as the original, only hollowing out a small portion of the larger part of the pipe.

It seems that it's possible to take the same pipe.
Just needs to be shorten mirrored and to do 2 cutouts so the pipe is on the same level as the wire form to provide that the bal could run thru.
It's a bit to long and the cut outs a bit too less.
Upgrade this a bit and then I also can share it.

Would be funny if the pipe would be bent as the wire form.

Looks good, let me know if you need anything from me, I can upload an STL or OBJ of just the bracket for instance if it would be useful, then you could rotate as needed to get the right angles for that lower pipe.

#22 3 years ago

Ok, I figured out enough of FreeCAD to make a cleaner file for the single sided bracket, I will upload the new STL and STEP files at my link above. I think this one should print without the segments from before.

A Stl from the brackets would be helpful.
then I could try a bent pipe.

#24 3 years ago

Ok, I uploaded 2 additional STL, a Single sided bracket that has been hollowed out where the pipe is. and a second two sided bracket with the frame that I used to hold together/center it in the pipe. It will need then to have a hole/pocket put in to fit through the pipe. Note: to make the double sided bracket single sided, you need to pull 5mm off of the desired side.

Thanks
I designed a bent pipe with the two holders.
After 4 diffrent trys this one worked. Maybe there are some improvements to do, but i like it and it works well.
I have uploaded the files.

Got my pipes finished and installed. Big difference from stock... Definitely an improvement. These are printed in PLA+, I'll see how they hold up, ideally I think they would be in ABS or at least PETg.

Hi,
I don't suppose anyone has scan of the Super Mario Bros playfield and speaker panel available? I'm currently trying to restore a very heavily played SMB that's missing the speaker panel.

I went a different route when 3d printing the question blocks. I printed in black filament and painted over in yellow. Then stuck white card stock inside. I think it looks better for those that want LED flashers without the insane brightness

Anyone have a STL of the pipes that fit over the flashers?

I also added a bowser next to the castle. It was a $15 bowser on eBay. I cut his legs at an angle. Looks like his legs are inside the plastic ramp, and the ball travels between his legs. I like it!
