    Hi Guys,
Getting tired of replacing batteries and would like to go to super caps in all
of my pins. They range from series 1 Gtb's to 1990's Wms pins. I do all of my
own board works so buying and installing components isn't a problem.
What value caps work best, what inrush resistance should be used and most
important, how long will these caps hold their charge in real games? Should
different values be used in pins using NiCads as opposed to alkaline batteries?

Any suggestions and experiences greatly appreciated!

NVRAM adapters are getting pretty affordable now at $10-$20 each.

The only exception for the moment is Gottlieb System 1, though. However, I've heard a couple of people are working on that.

I'm curious as well. I'm starting to do more and more board repairs and would like to start installing memory caps.

I have a few installed. Getting rid of them as well. Not worth the hassle.

I think I used 220 which limits to 25mA and should charge in around 5.5mins

It was fun to try it out for science but a waste.

    Imho
NV are the way to go.

With the coin cell the next best option.

With the price of nvram, I'm bummed I wasted time building my own remote battery holder's instead of just buying the nvram.

Caps don't hold a charge long enough in my opinion. Waste of time + $.

Just ordered a 10 pack from Andrew at http://nvram.weebly.com. He couldn't be more helpful & at $6 each shipped.
I jettisoned those leaky bastards. $6 a pin. How much are batteries?!? 'nuff said.

I've got 1.5F caps on 4 games. Cheetah, Star Gazer, Cyclopes and Zac Time Machine. As long as you turn the game on for 30 minutes every month or so you shouldn't have any issues. I've gone as long as 3 months without issue. Not sure how they'd last on newer games but the games I put them on originally had NiCad batteries on the MPU.

I have a memory cap on my Mata Hari w/original MPU for years w/no issues. Never lost any memory.
