    Quoted from Pinballs:

Do you know many young, well-travelled/educated working women?

Yes, but only because I work with many successful women from cities like San Fransisco and Ann Arbor.

    Quoted from Pinballs:

But a soft porn pin +/- female objectifying pin appealing to them? Nope.

    No pin appeals to women.

A pin is just another silly toy to them; just like Audiophile, Home Theater, Model Rocketry.....women are simply not into that stuff.

    #53 8 years ago

I think it would be a great theme. The hipsters like the old cool retro themes not the boring new corporate/licensed stuff. I think there is a market for this. It would be great to see someone do edgier pins. Stern and JJP are both clearly going for the mainstream and/or older market. Though Stern at least went out there a little bit with luci.

Huh I dated one for about 6 months that also liked being a slave girl princess leia at comic con. I left that situation with opposite impression: attention whore. In retrospect, this should of been obvious.. But, my computer nerd/dork self was blinded at first.. You live , you learn.

As a Pinball machine, I think it would be a good re theme, low qty.. Like the sailor Jerry rum machines floating around out there.

I'm going to get rich investing in laser tattoo removal businesses. All these beautiful girls, with no forward thinking, are going to look so busted when they're not 23 anymore. Mark my words, you will see a HUGE tattoo removal business in the next 20-30 years.

    #58 8 years ago

Probably too much scarring to remove THAT much tattoo work.

Probably just have to have it all gone over solid black.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while we geeky males like our gadgets, and focus on machines, pins etc, women seem to be obsessively vain and focused on... their bodies. Themselves. Ultimate vanity. Basically, self-obsession.

We (men) don't objectify women. They objectify themselves.

Frankly, an obsession with practical 'external' devices seems rather more healthy that making my breasts bigger, £1000s on clothes, tattooes etc. Or have I missed something? Obviously I'm looking at the extremes of both sexes.

No offense intended, but from your posts I can't help but think maybe you need to find a new pool of women to date and hang out with.

Same thing with the guys in the hotel gym (and probably every other gym).

I'm not really into the softcore hardcore thing, but I was gonna suggest: their hair dye palette is very Jpop, and I don't think he's too busy at the moment.

The patents finally run out on the Pin2k next year.

So Stern could do a SG with the same video screen idea.

Here is Williams Playboy, just before Niel pulled the plug:

Couldn't agree more. Those are some hot girls .. Why they pay good money to put all that stuff on their bodies on the whim of a trend is beyond me.

We've always had a big tattoo culture here in NZ. Nothing sadder than seeing a 50 year old lady well past her prime with big droopy arm tats. Eewwwwww.

Oh, in our house my wife is the Playboy fan. All because of "girls of the playboy mansion" on E. I tried to explain that those girls are, in essence, live in prostitutes ... But that didn't seem to stick

I've been wanting to sell my Stern Playboy for years and she won't let me. I snuck it up for sale online last month ... Hope she doesn't find out lol

I suspect it's more along the lines of men objectify women AND women objectify women, thus the mainstreaming of plastic surgery, tattoos, thin girls with a few more curves thinking they're fat, etc.

I heard a study years back where someone researched the dimensions of the average centerfold over time versus the average model in women's magazines. The centerfolds were generally much fuller figured, while the models were--surprise--way under the norms in terms of weight and healthy appearance.

A Suicide Girls pin would be a cool theme that would likely fit in many bars, but the game still has to work.

    Well,

The guy posts a neat idea, and somehow the old "My wife wouldn't let me have it, therefore it's stupid" posts start flying. Vid, the SG are BAD-ASS, and anyone here who'd kick one of them out of bed because she's got a star tattooed on her cheek is one of two things:

    1. A flat-out liar.
    2. Still wearing a powdered white wig and posting on Pinside by smoke signal.

And don't give me that old "I'm happily married and wouldn't cheat on my wife" chestnut. The above statement assumes you'd be single (and into girls, for that matter).

Don't get me wrong, if these edgy chicks aren't your thing, more power to you, but don't shit in the guy's Cheerios because some women are so wildly insecure that an INANIMATE OBJECT would make them jealous. That is positively insane, but admitting it to a group of "peers" on the internet is just well... lame. As far as the old, "No chick would tolerate this machine" nonsense...

WRONG. Way wrong. The guys who say this are the same repressed nincompoops who started threads about the fact that the AC/DC pin had the word "Hell" in the title of a couple of the songs and.... THEIR CHILDREN WERE SCARED OF IT.

    Suicide Girls are smokeshow hot.

    End of rant.

    Flame away.

    #70 8 years ago
    Quoted from Fooped:

    Suicide Girls are smokeshow hot.

Meh... are they really any different than the thousands of other naked girls on the internet seeking validation?

Believe me, for scientific purposes I've investigated all of the naked girls on the internet and I don't see anything unique or special about the Suicide Girls "brand".

I'm not saying they're not pretty or have fit bodies, I just don't see how Suicide Girls are anything exciting unless you're maybe 13 and you just discovered naked girls on the internet?

Definitely re-theme a pin and all that though. The start to the pop bumpers and side-art was very cool. I just don't see any point in discussing it as a legitimate theme that any manufacturer would touch or that anyone would purchase in numbers.

    #71 8 years ago
    Quoted from Fooped:

"No chick would tolerate this machine" nonsense...

Yeah, that line is just for guys to reassure themselves that it is normal for their wives not to allow them to own a "sexy" plywood box.

My entire family - ancient aunts and uncles, young nieces and nephews, even my mother (the saint) when she was still with us, have all played my Bally Playboy (and more recently, my Sexy Girl) when they come over.

No one was offended, no one covered the children's eyes, no one got out the holy water - They all play a few pin games, get slaughtered at Galaga, then go back upstairs to stand around the kitchen and gossip.

    Quoted from guyincognito:

Playboy is probably THE most popular pinball franchise in both total numbers and number of manufacturers.

Bally, Data East, Rally, Williams, Stern..... people love their cheesecake.

    Quoted from jwilson:

I'd make a new playfield with a fan layout.

A full sized CNC router with auto tool changer can knock out a playfield in under 4 minutes, so why not go all out.

A Dwarves soundtrack would be great (and fitting). I was thinking of posting the cover of Blood, Guts, & Pussy but realized that naked girls covered in blood along with a little person "holding" a rabbit probably is NSFW (depending on where you work of course).

There's dozens, but I'll say a Northwood with 4 spindles and a 20 position tool changer would be my dream machine if I had a large enough electrical service.

If you are talking Shopbots or CAMaster type units, your 30-50 minutes is completely respectable.

Over on the Mechmate forums, we build 5x10' routers that are about 8x stiffer than Shopbot, and only cost $4k. Best part is, if you build it yourself, you can service it yourself, lol :

When you go see the Dwarves in concert, there is a big sign by the entrance saying "Management is not responsible for the length of time the Dwarves Perform" because sometimes when their guitar player, He Who Can Not Be Named, comes out on stage completely naked, a giant fight erupts with the audience.

They were actually signed to SubPop records and were slated to be bigger than Nirvana. They told SubPop that He Who Can Not Be Named had died, and made the album a tribute to him. Months latter, Subpop found out he was actually alive and kicked The Dwarves off the Label.

If it wasn't for all that blood, guts and pussy......

    Quoted from vid1900:

That's the case with all pinball.
But, can we get kids interested in pinball through the theme?
Kids roll their eyes at Playboy because it's their grandfather's erotica.
Pinball used to have the reputation of attracting drifters and homosexuals, rather than the dorks it attracts now.
The cool kids will naturally be attracted to anything forbidden, sketchy and underground.

Well, in my case neither the wife nor the 7 y/o daughter would object because they both would enjoy the theme as much as I would - the wife probably more, actually. I usually send her to hit on the hot bartenders.

The young'n would probably insist she get the ACDC she has been asking for first but I'm sure she'd not be bothered by the theme unless it was full on. I'd probably feel more awkward about it than she would and hope for it to be geared closer to PG-13 or a bit harder but this kid has not been sheltered. And she's sharp, respectful and gets along in polite society better than most of the adults she knows.

But to your question, I think it'd be a rarer kid who would get into pinball because of this particular theme. I could see them getting into Suicide Girls being way more likely, which is not a bad thing either. Playing pinball is how I see kids getting into it, and that's happening more because of the resurgence of locations to play. Marketing is for adults; kids tend to be a bit more monkey see, monkey do.

    #92 8 years ago
    Quoted from emkay:

Marketing is for adults; kids tend to be a bit more monkey see, monkey do.

I should have said, "Lifestyle marketing" - obviously kids are successfully marketed to by the trinket industry. The pinball industry would have a hard time trying because kids don't make decisions on where machines are located... yet.

Chicken, egg. Can it be done again?

Oh man! I just figured out what NSFW means. I like this, fix the licensed games, over them and WNBJM is classic.

    #95 8 years ago

from scratch or as retheme I think the concept would work. there are lots of biker bars in every state and plenty of individuals who'd want. the concept could be good in a strip club for a few drinks eye candy and pinball, nevermind the lapdance thanks..
not trying to stereotype, the "niche market" is likely a lot larger than many might think.

    #96 8 years ago

Surely it must be time and there must be some demand for another "sexy" pinball machine. Wasn't the last one...

Another thing that probably needs to be discussed is how "sexy" should it be?

Joe Vargis' Comet that he is retheming into SG is VERY explicit.

I'm thinking more of a boobs but no clam kind of thing, but obviously everyone's "ideal" is different.

Is anyone else with me in thinking that less is more?

Well, you probably don't want to go all Big Dick (the pin) style and have body fluids and penetration on the game...I think I'm with you with less being more.

You don't want a game that scares guests (too much). LOL
