Hi Guys!

we had a whisky evening and I started my devils dare pinball. At first I played two, three games. There was still a few credits, but I let it the game over modus and talked to the guys and drunk whisky. Later I wanted presenting the pinball, but it won't start:

- The playfield had no light
- the game over light was off
- no credit - all displays shows zero
- can't add credits

All fused are good.

What do you think?

Is there any battery damage on the MPU from a leaking battery?

Does each display show just a single zero, or is every digit lit with a zero?

Have you checked the fuses on the underside of the playfield? When you checked the fuses, did you buzz them with a multimeter? You can't rely on just a visual inspection.

Have you checked the slam switch on the coin door to make sure that it's closed?

Hi,

- battery is ok!
- Every digit lit is with a zero
- I checked the fused with an acoustic multimeter - all fused fine
- I bypassed the slam switch cable.

Perhaps it is the cpu. What do you think?

Did you check the roll ball tilt?

And the coin door tilt!

Sure I checked the tils.
I also can't start Testmode. I consider that the CPU is defective.

Quoted from devilsdare1967:

Did you check that the test switch actually works? Put a multimeter probe on each lug and see if you get continuity when you press it.

Also make sure you have continuity from the switch to the mpu edge connector contacts.

See if any of the coin switches are stuck closed.

Turn the game off and then turn it back on. If you get all zeros as soon as you power the game on the game is stuck in slam tilt. Just a reminder the slam switch is normally closed on Sys80. Not normally open.

Try unplugging the harness where it comes to the coin door. My buddy had a broken wire in the coin door and that showed the problem is in the door.

Hi,

today I had time to check some things.

1. I unplugged the harnes to the coin door. No difference.
2. I deconnect and afterwards I connect the slam switch again. No difference.
3. I checked the test switch. Multimeter says value about 0,6 - I think that is okay
4. Yes, I got zeros as soon as I turn power on. Later I can check the wires of the slam tilt.
5. That is a litte bit confused: I can play, when I put manually a ball in the play field. All solenoid seems to work and I can operate the flipper arms. But no sound and no score countings.

Then I noticed a bad smell - The solenoid (see picture) got very hot!
I marked it on the pictures. It seems, that this controll the ball throw-in. When I turn power off, the pin move back. I think the solenoid
is okay, but the controll has an error. May something stuck.

What do you think?

You most likely have a shorted slam tilt.
Get rid of and bypass that board!

This is a very common problem with GTB SS80 machines if they have not been 'bullet proofed' of this era and the knowledge understanding seems to be slowly being lost again.

If you are not familiar with the problem, watch a Todd Tuckey video that will visually show the issue, as going into all the reasons why this was a bad manufacturer decision and why they did it at the factory for operators would take too long here, and you will learn more quickly.

The second most common cause is the MPU edge connectors.
