Could be a short on the large bank, check if there isn't any contact near the metal part of the mechanical side or if there is a isolated piece broken.
If there is a contact set bend sideways towards the metal, unloosen the screws and adjust it slightly 'inwards' away from the metal part.
Just a wild guess, but I have had several Williams games with this kind of odd behaviour.
