Quoted from tjw998:Did you ever separate these two bowls?
Thanks for the follow up, but, no, I didn't get the stinkin' things apart. I tried everyone's advise, and they're still stuck. I'm going to try the boiling water/ice & salt method again. I'll let you know.
OK, I just sat the bottom bowl in boiling water on the stove with the top bowl full of ice for five minutes. I even used Kosher salt in the ice though I'm not from that side of the street. Tried to pull them apart, bupkes! Going to try the penetrating oil next.
Tried using olive oil between the bowls, even used Extra Virgin, no luck. My wife and I tried pulling them apart, boy, she's strong! Bowls are now in the freezer. Stay tuned.
Quoted from mcluvin:That makes it tighter. Ba dum tss..
Hahahaha!!!! The Quote of the Month!
Jesus! Thanks for reminding me. I left them in the freezer. When I finish yard saleing this morning, I'm going to boil some water and give it another try.
Tried the hot/cold trick again this morning, no luck. Tried whapping and tapping with rubber mallet, hammer, etc. without success I poured a lot of penetrating oil between them and I'm going to let that sit for a while. Then I'll try the wood stick and ice jacking approaches. And, no, my wife likes a good joke, but she's not that cruel.
Quoted from generalgman:Buy a couple of small pieces of ready rod and a coupler
There's only a half inch between the bowls' lips so I really don't have room. But thanks.
Quoted from wesman:Question I have is...how on earth did these bowls become son incredibly stuck???
Just checked with the Secretary of Food. She says that they've been like that for years, and has no idea how they became so stuck.
Quoted from pinballinreno:Ive had good success boiling them under water in a large pot.
Put a weight on them, sideways if itll fit.
The pressure builds in the air void and pops them free in about 15-20 mins
I'll give it a shot.
Quoted from DCFAN:Clamp the edge of the top bowl in a vise, tap on the edge of of the other bowl with a hammer and something with a flat end against the edge.
GOT THE SONS 'A BITCHES!!! Finally I used the idea from DCFAN above and it worked. I promise not to say anything nasty about the Red***** this year. The penetrating oil must have helped too as it was well down between the bowls. They are still in pretty nice shape. I really appreciate all the help, suggestions and great comments from all of you. Your responses kept up my faith that I could eventually get these damn things apart. The Woman To Whom I Am Related To By Marriage also sends her thanks. Cheerio!
