Hi guys,
The spinner on my sttng is killing the speed of the ball.
This is a new machine to me and I am most definitely missing some bit around the spinner.
As you can see from this pic.

The problem is that the spinner sits at an angle in its "home" position.
And when the ball hits it,it makes contact with the bottom edge of the spinner first.
This causes a pinch between the spinner and the PF.
It looks like the spinner is too high in its bracket but it looks to be set up correctly at the same time.
Heres an illustration of the problem.(exaggerated a bit)

What am i missing here?
is the spinner on the wrong bracket?
Should there be a diode on that switch ?

Thanks!

howdy,

Just looked at mine, mine is also on a slight angle towards the player position as is yours. The bottom of the spinner when vertical is approx 21mm (just under an inch) above the play field. Mine does have a diode and is reasonably easy to spin.

How hard is it to move the leaf on the microswitch, if you lift the leaf and then spin the spinner does it move freely. The spinner block is quite heavy and takes a bit to move but that way it should retain inertia after the ball has passed.

I would also look at the spinner shaft, is it straight is it coming close to leaving the bracket at the non switch end and binding, is the leaf staying in the correct bent section of the spinner shaft or "riding high" and making it harder for the spinner to move that way.

Good luck.

Thank you center drain,
I'll measure mine later and rule out a bracket change.
The spinner is spinning freely and the shaft looks to be straight.
Could you post a picture of your switch and spinner?Glass on is fine by me.
I think mines been changed as its not a leaf switch but a normal micro switch with an arm .

Thanks again

here you go, looks pretty much the same to me. Sorry was hard to get a clear shot with the squadron of Klingons in the way.

Thank you,
yes it does look the same.
You can see the bottom edge of my spinner is "damaged".
The ball is forcing the spinner up into the axle instead of backward.
Its impossible to make the orbit.

Try messing with the arms of the spinner. They probably got bent up a little bit. Your spinner should definitely be at a 90 degree angle with the playfield. That or slightly leaning forward toward the player. That gets optimal rippage.

I had a similar problem with my ST:TNG, If you remove the far screw (cabinet side) you should be able to move the assembly and give yourself easier access to remove the spinner . Clean it up and adjust the arms, they have probably got bent over time especially with the ball hitting it that way. You can also pull up the leaf switch a bit if that is causing it to angle. Finally, make sure your machine is sloped properly. Good luck with that great game, I have never ran out of stuff to adjust and work on with my ST:TNG.

Got this sorted and yes the spinner arm was bent ever so slightly.
Now I can finally collect warp speeds!

speaking of warp speeds. I have a really tough time make either orbit shot. Seems like the flippers don't have the dexterity like my LOTR does. Think i need to fiddle with the flipper alignment or just admit i'm a bad shot?

Or you need to rebuild the flippers.
