Quoted from bigdaddy07:No. I've had one in mine for 5 years with no notable problems tied to it. In fact...ah nevermind....I don't want to jinx it.
Way too funny and so true
Quoted from DrScoops:I have checked marco, pbl, and PPS. Where else can I look?
Try pinball Australia the dollar is worst than the Canadian dollar. Which plastics are you looking for I have doubles and triples for a lot parts for STNG!
Quoted from Bdkorn:Once the machine is delivered I will take off the mylar
If your new to pinball read the other forums of how to remove Mylar!
Could do more damage
Quoted from Buzz:nbits gets them in every once and awhile, but they seem to sell out immediately
Call Pam directly she's helped me out that way before ... Things listed out of stock may have one sitting on a shelf!
Quoted from nwpinball:Is that just cosmetic or does it change gameplay?
Keeps the ball from draining out the side outlines.
Quoted from jathomp22:ver did mount the Enterprise on my first STTNG. I also couldn't find a good spot to mount it so I never put it in.
This is where I placed mine
"Thx. I'll look into mounting mine there as well if it isn't too obtrusive."
Will not affect gameplay ...
Quoted from nwpinball:Now I just need to track down plastics,
Which plastics are you looking for ? I think I have a full set plus other misc ones?
Quoted from Osric:o you have the ramps? I'd be interested if anyone does.
No Ramps but think they are available at Fantasy, I've had my game for 4 years and managed to find a very minty unit, so the playfield help you need,I cannot answer.
The Color DMD is a must for this game ...
Quoted from jokerpoker:Does anyone else make the extended outlane guides. I have emailed Pam as it shows nil stock with pinbits.
I would call her , was looking for the wiring harness to install the shaker in my STNG, said none in stock , however she did have them!
Thanks for the help , resolved the cannon can't find home issue! The blade of the micro switch broken!
Also regresed the left rear ball diverted ... Back to 100%
Quoted from jokerpoker:thoughts on having one in STTNG. Worth it or not?
Have a JP a TFTC so the only game lacking the shaker was the STNG. Well worth the install , enhances the game.
Quoted from Hammerhead:I thought greasing/lubing anything was a bad idea as
Used white lithium lubricant.. Doesn't attract dirt... This is a metal on metal part so the old grease most likely Orginal, did not allow it to turn as it should! Lasted more than 25 years , very impressive!
Quoted from Axl:Does anyone have any good suggestions for spotlights in STTNG? it is very dark..
This is where I installed mine! Used the super bright 4smd white bulbs!
Quoted from ViperJelly:Are there others that make sense to consider as well?
Can't get enough of my Tales from the Crypt ....
Quoted from Axl:That looks like a good place to have them.
Also installed 20 natural white light strip from comet to light up the backboard ... Can provide pic if required !
Quoted from Pin_Guy:As you can see, green is the theme here and I wanted the ship to match. I actually have two Borg ships, one in green and one in blue in case I decide to change it at some point in the future
Let me be the first , cool backboard decal , how does one get one?
Quoted from Walamab:Can someone recommend a place to order the LX-7 ROM and provide some of idea of what's involved to actually change out the ROM?
I tend to use John Wart at (www.) that pinball place!
Very knowledgable and has been around a long time!
Quoted from PTHermes:Additionally, do you think it is worth the $250 price tag?
Installed a roadshow shaker into my STNG , bought the Pinbits intelligent shaker board.
http://www.iobium.com/installing_the_shaker_motor_cont.
Whole new game with the shaker
Quoted from Kronlar:I wonder if you could buy a replacement laser
My left cannon laser went way of the the dodo.... Email Terry at pinball life and he will arrange your replacement ! Had mine in 5 days, great service from them
Quoted from bobukcat:didn't address the 455s that are supposed to be behind the title,
That's news too me! When I got mine no 455's in the game period!
You say they belong behind the title?
I have a wiring harness and board that attaches to the flashers. This attaches to a shaker motor! If anybody is interested asking 90.00 CDN plus shipping.
Please pm me if intetested!
Quoted from Hammerhead:Agreed; two DE turds for STTNG is a win-win-win.
What would be in your collection ?
Owned a JP was a good game! Sad commentary for someone that hides his collection !
Just because you may dislike DE doesn't mean everybody has too!
Quoted from bobukcat:JP is a fun game with some good shots, the T-Rex eating the ball and the raptor pit but it's not in the same league as STTNG IMO. Harsh to call it a turd though.
Nicely put
Have had over 25 games come in and out my door, and my STNG was there to watch them all come and go!
Definitely a keeper... Never gets dull!
Quoted from urbanledge:Get the pintrix app.
What is the app for ? Can you attach a link?
Quoted from jorro:alternative translite
Nice translight , share where you got that?
Resigning my commission! My baby was purchased by pinsider "boat" !
I wish to thank everyone for the support that I received its been so so helpful! I'm sure the new captain of this unit will be along shortly!
Regards and all the best!
Warp 9 to new adventures!
Quoted from Zitt:Part of the "full" vuk decal kit here
After seeing these on #jesperpark game, these are a must have.
The package just completes the game
Quoted from Luke_Nukem:Past 2 days I have completely.. and I mean Completely shopped 110% my STTNG.
ballsy taking off the Mylar . No paint removed while removing it ?
great job taking off years of dirt !
She arrived ... after a stellar packing packing job from @toasterman4 it got a 6 hour free ride courtesy of teams transportation.
The game came in great condition, nicely painted ships, invisglass,a cabinet interior that looks brand new.
Colordmd has been installed, small tweaking with some lighting and installing the new ROM today .
Looking forward to many trouble free plays. Just waiting for the VUK decal set.
Nice to be back in this club.

Quoted from Davi:906 - it's part of the flasher circuit.
Thanks ... not in manual and most flashers in game were 6.3V
Little help ...
Lost power to my troughs replaced the opto boards with new ones as I could see many bad traces ...
Of course now no LEDs lighting up , any place to start checking ... ?
Checked by replacing old ones and no power still .
Quoted from transprtr4u:Lost power to my troughs
Found the issue, guess someone didn't have a connector handy , so why not soldered it back together..
Wiggled the connector works as should !
Morning, is the LED light on the 16 opto PCB Assembly supposed to be on when the game is on ?
Still having an issue with the trough getting power.
Waiting for a 5 pin connector for the front assembly.
Still trying to resolve my lack of power to my ball trough , should the led on the opto board under the playfield be on at all times?
mine remains off constantly !
Quoted from Watkinsd13:Checked and the light stays on solid the whole time
Thanks ...
Now to find why I'm not getting power to the board .
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:There are new improved designs for both areas which really helps
Ruled this out had a new improved one on hand a still no juice to the board !
but thanks
Quoted from jadziedzic:There is a 2-pin inline connector in the wiring harness by the PC board in the middle of the lower playfield (underneath) that has the sockets for the start mission, shield, & etc. inserts; that connector has a black wire and a gray/yellow wire, which is 18V opto power, but I don't remember what is "downstream" of that connector. Take a close look and see if perhaps that is disconnected. If not, you'll have to trace back to the power driver board connector to find the break in continuity.
Will check ...... Thanks
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:Victor (Dumbass on Pinside) produces an amazing 16 Opto Main board, which shows you the operational status of everything.
Certainly the condition of every opto and power.
thanks for the lead .... ordered one from Victor , great customer service !
still trying to figure out why no power to the original board !
so with assistance from a fellow Pinsider (because I suck using a meter) got to the root of the problem of the 16 Opto Board not getting power(no LED lit on the board). I have power and ground at J118 off the board, when plugging in the connector I have power but no ground at the Opto board.
guessing I'm going to be looking for a broken ground wire now.
thanks to all who chimed in about my issue , greatly appreciated !
Quoted from math08:Comet Pinball kit
love Comet and their product , kits(all companies) are just terrible !
doesn't take much effort to figure out what works best for you and order !
Quoted from Deleenhe:examples of what others have done with the Borg.
Bird of Prey and Borg ships, not my handy work , whoever painted them did a great job ..
Always wondered about coating wireforms noticed your coated your forms in purple , see that it's chipping.
Quoted from Manny65:That's a Romulan Warbird.
Received by Dumbass Opto board. Have cleared the ground wire issue to this board and works like a charm.
The power to the through board is still an issue for me.
I have no continuity for ground or power(grey-yellow) going to the trough.
Where is this board getting power, the manual says J118 .
The opto board and the cannon motors are also driven by the J118 plug , no issues with those.
Is the power run off of something else other than directly from the J118plug
From the main board.?
Checking before I undo the whole harness for breaks in the wires.
Trough runs off of J118
Opto board runs off of J118
Cannon power off of J118
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:Also, while the Subway is removed, if you wanted to light the 3 ramps from below, now is the time. I'll include some photos
I assume you used light stripes ?
Can someone explain this to me ?
Special Sound Roms Set (AKA "Silly Roms" / "Silly Cast Roms")
Rumored to be a version originally only released for cast members.
Quoted from Tallon:This new one is from wire-bot.
They sell complete units ?
Interesting
Quoted from Jeff1960:Does anyone know who sells the bare speaker backboard for 5.25 speakers ?
Quoted from ray-dude:I recently moved our STTNG
I like the look of your Enterprise model, where did get it ? Looks size appropriate.
Quoted from Axl:The 12v that goes to cannons is not working.
had an issue with a broken ground wire ...
check if the daisy chain from J118 black and Grey wire is complete ... its drives the cannons the eddy sensors ball trough and the opto board under the playfield !
Quoted from bobukcat:Flipper button optos and diverter, start there. You can swap the opto boards
Checked these yesterday ... powered up the game and played fine .. then again had slow power fade till the ball could barley be moved by the flipper.
Quoted from JacobdV:Thanks Koji and ingo333, issue solved! I am glad nothing is wrong with my great pinball machine STTNG, and I will enjoy playing it for many many times!
What was the issue so others could find out a cure ??????
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:Victor, truly excellent creative engineering, you rock!
He does ... DumbAss just isn't right!
Quoted from LouMatt:I learned that Americans and Canadiens/British People spell 'Maneuver' differently today. Always interesting when that happens. You would think in the internet age we could all just spell things the same way.
color and colour is the same thing .... whenever I'm on forum its ColorDmd not ColourDmd
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:Thought I would share again, a cool Cannon Mod created by Mick's Pinball,
Very cool... but $65 plus shipping for 2 flasher bulbs?
not taking away from his effort and looks great !
Quoted from Eric_Manuel:I will "peddle" Dumbass's products ALL DAY LONG, they are amazing!!!
This I agree , what a great asset to our community...
His products and knowledge is beyond reproach!
Although next on the list for topside teardown...
Yesterday had a quick game , getting a buzz from lower left flipper, when this occurs I also have a power drop from the catapult.
Any suggestions before I deep dive, or buy Pinsound to fix the problem
Quoted from Thehipster:My latest STTNG
I have the exact same problem .... lol will start with the EOS switch!
Quoted from bobukcat:I'd start with the flipper button optos
Thinking your right ...
EOS looks good makes perfect contact .
The whole assembly was rebuilt, not long ago...
Quoted from Thehipster:Before I gave up today I did a switch test on the left flipper button and the test was so 'odd' (fluttering of the square lights) I took it off and blew into the optos.
Now it works as it should.
Just did the same , the troublesome flipper opto was caked in black dirt the right not so bad...
Thanks all !
Under the left side of the playfield the proximity sensor for the left return lane , what size IDC connectors attaches to the board?
.156 4 pin
When I got my STNG... someone removed the bridge rectifiers from the board and mounted replacements on the inside of the cabinet.
Boards sent out to Brent for repairs, everything now is as it should be plus a quick bullet proofing, good for years to come!
99cad217a5af80f504a74cdaf1473090ed3914f8.jpg1fddb1f2da18f1e5af582b1597af36867d28e88f (1).jpg20240104_172156.jpgQuoted from Eric_Manuel:I don't see anything connected to your J108 on your Power Driver Board
The tie back mod was done ... if you look closely at the picture none of the pins are attached to CPU board ... it's was repaired, and installed.
I had a hornets nest of twisted wire connectors in the harness, these are all untangled and nicely reinstalled now.
The power driver board was also refreshed with Nvram installed and the LX-8 chip now in as well
The GI connectors were also crispy although new connectors were attached, see pic for hack.there's tons of wire but again someone had the urge to cut and extend the wires as opposed to getting slack by tidying up the wiring .
Next is some wire replacement under the playfield, have to change the white-blue, black, yellow-grey and green-brown due to the wires being brittle and breaking by the proximity sensor.
All this necessary, no but at least it will have no hacks and will play as should.
Last is a complete an I mean complete top side tear down .
Again thanks for the tie back tip.
Quoted from MrMikeman:I’ve owned 3 STTNGs. Shields are blue. Not sure where you’ve seen green.
Quoted from GCS2000:I picked up my game tonight. Played at the sellers place of course and the shield inserts are lit blue uggh. Need to put them back to the proper green.
Teal- is the closest I have found from comet!
Turned on my STNG...
Got a batch of ground row shorts ...
One pic missing white violet as well
Removed pin connector J209 for driver board and the ground row short problem disappeared, but cannons cannot find home .
Also the 16 opto board has led light #8 not lit?
Any pointers, of were to start looking?
20240128_182050.jpg20240128_182050.jpg20240128_182056.jpg20240128_182101.jpgQuoted from DumbAss:That isolates the issue away from the CPU board.
Checked this so not a cpu issue
Quoted from DumbAss:This is SW48. It is "Borg Entry". The switch location diagram does not show this switch. It has errors in it. I believe this is the opto pair just after the top diverter before entry into the Borg ship.
Noted ... it is the Borg entry and it was problematic when I got the game, in switch test it will go on and off by its self
Quoted from DumbAss:Now isolate the 16-opto board. Disconnect J5 from the 16-opto board and check to see if the problem goes away. If it does then it isolates the issue to the 16-opto board.
If it does not then disconnect J1 from the 7-ball Trough Phototransistor board and repeat the check. The goal is to isolate as many boards as possible
Will isolate these 2 in the morning
Thanks all , always great to have a support team going through these issues .
I'm grateful
Will report back
The ground short row continues...
Remove J5 on the 16 opto board rebooted the game same ground row shorts continue.
Removed J1 on the ball through board. Same error message
Oddly enough disconnected the 2 connectors in pictures attached ...
Rebooted and short is gone.
Did switch test and hand touched all works as should ...
So guessing now that I have a short at the cannons?
Visual check shows no metal touching anything, perhaps a bad diode?
Oh and light 8 on opto board
20240203_182553.jpg20240203_182612.jpg20240203_182651.jpgQuoted from DumbAss:[quoted image]
You report row short for:WHT-RED
WHT-GRN
WHT-BLU
WHT-VIOCan you see a pattern?
Not likely that ALL FOUR diodes failed at the same time. More likely a single failure of a single common component. See above.
What's the issue? I see the LED is illuminated. This is expected behavior. The LED state will change when you block the opto pair.
Will delve further...
Thanks DumbAss
I'm seeing the pattern but not really getting if perhaps your saying Q5 is the fault?
Working off my original board, perhaps it's time to install the one you sent me ?
Hope you had a great holiday
Quoted from DumbAss:I recommend everyone (not just you) read the manual. Almost all the information anyone needs to diagnose problems posted on this forum can be found in the manual. It is ok to not know what the manual means but learning how to understand what the manual is conveying will allow the reader to be able to fix most any problem on their machine.
This is good insight , I guess having the original manual with schematics to follow instead of page to page ...
So following the trail that you provided I have removed the J5 pin and reconnected the 2 under the playfield, rebooted and again I'm back to a clean boot with everything functional on the playfield but the 2 cannons,
Not having the electronic background that you , is my problem now with Q12 tip 102 on the eight driver board...
Doing my best to learn here so your patience is appreciated and your advice is helpful.
Quoted from MrMikeman:This is good troubleshooting so far but be aware that your problem could be more than just 1 driver on the aux board. Mine was doing the same. My problem was actually on the MPU board. Still haven’t sat down and troubleshot the MPU I just put a spare I had and the problem is gone.
My prob is likely the chip that takes care of input/output for the aux board. Or the asic. Ugggh. Hope not.
Checked the TIPs on the eight driver board, all seem fine , have a spare 8 driver board switched them no change .
Have a DumbAss new power driver board perhaps I should switch and see if the problem resolves?
Or I'm I in danger of damaging that board as well?
Quoted from DumbAss:It is important to be precise with what you did and what your results are since nobody else is in front of the machine and nobody else can see the actual results. Everybody is relying on what you report (in text).
Will start again later in the week, back to work for me , will keep accurate notes and relay the information as correctly as possible ,
Thanks all for the help anc patience.
Rob
Quoted from matthess:This is the spot for a new cannon harness if you need it--
https://wirebot.xyz/products/sttng-top-gun-cannon-cable
Second this , makes great product⁹
Quoted from transprtr4u:Turned on my STNG...
Got a batch of ground row shorts ...
One pic missing white violet as well
Removed pin connector J209 for driver board and the ground row short problem disappeared, but cannons cannot find home .
Also the 16 opto board has led light #8 not lit?
Any pointers, of were to start looking?
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
So with everyone's help here couldn't find the issues with my ground short issue...
With the help from @ strech7 coming over to take a look, still no luck after going over everything again .
He pulled my power driver board and changed the switch processor on the board, reinstalled and game is working as should.
Thanks to everyone for there help with this matter, posted the resolve so that it may help someone in the future.
Quoted from DaveTheTrain:A few queries about the STTNG I'm currently borrowing and fiddling with
Pitch and balance issue?
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:Not sure where to get a replacement part though...
Quoted from sllerts:Confirmed. Socket is gone or was never there. The holes don't look like there was ever any solder in them. New socket and flasher ordered! Thanks all!
Return to Duty !
