Quoted from Craig:

What have you done to improve the frequency with which you are able to hit the Delta ramp successfully? I have waxed the playfield, lowered the angle, rebuilt the upper flipper, put in the (slightly) stronger coil, tried adjusting the gap between the flipper and the side panel, etc. I still have to hit that shot perfectly to get the ball to go all the way around the ramp, and I think it might well be impossible to get enough velocity for it to go over the hump and into the Borg ship. Any thoughts about what else to try? I am at a loss.

I'd say mine gets there most of the time but it does have about a 30% failure rate as well. Just a thought here but, if your ramps have some rough track marks, that could cause some drag and slow the ball up. You could try flame polishing them. I noticed a difference after I did mine, not huge but it was there.

Those cannon covers look awesome. I need to get that done to mine.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten around to looking at it yet. I want to play it soo bad.. but I have my weekends booked until the end of July. Depressing.

You just have to learn the art of giving people the finger. Then you have less friends but, more playtime.

A trivia question for yah, take a guess what game is the PBL picture taken from for that sparkly pop enhancement?

Can't wait to see your finished product. I plan to do mine in the near future.

Quoted from paynemic:

Hi all, got a question. I cleaned my very dirty Sttng when I got it a year ago. It's filthy again. I'm trying to find a cause. Possibly related is the fact that the balls are very worn and faded. Dull. Like buff. They were new. So I looked around for potential causes. Wondering if the canons are supposed to have a rubber tip like most pinball plungers? Seems like the metal on metal could really wear the balls and cause general dirtiness. Thoughts?

The dirt could be coming from worn rubber parts. As they age, they tend to disintegrate and leave particles of them all over the place. Try replacing all your rubbers. As for the plunger, its a plastic tip.

Congrats! You guys just picked up a great game. Enjoy it for many years.

There are so many great mods to add to this game, you should never tire of it.

Quoted from mskoenen:

bigdaddy, I have you to blame for my recent obsession with this game. When Swainer80 and I came to pick up your TZ and you let me play your STTNG, I immediately fell in love and had to get one!

I'm happy to hear you were able to pick one up. Hopefully you found a nice one. Its truly the one game I haven't grown tired of over the years and a bunch of other games have came and went since I've had mine. How has Swainer80 been doing with his TZ?

#346 8 years ago

I found the perfect spot for one right above the third flipper. Put a green led in there and it really makes the Borg ship pop.

Quoted from mskoenen:

He was miffed when I got STTNG last week, though.

STTNG is a better game.

Though TZ is no slouch and my old one was nicely pimped.

Quoted from ibjames:

do you think they affect reliability?

No. I've had one in mine for 5 years with no notable problems tied to it. In fact...ah nevermind....I don't want to jinx it.

Milestone achieved.
After nearly 6 years I finally got warp 9.9 today! It was one of those days the game was flipping as smooth as butter and I was effortlessly making the shots. Either way in the past I always choked after 9.7. Really cool sound effect and animation at the end as well. I want to do it again now!

Quoted from someoneelse:

I got caught in a really fun Picard Maneuver frenzy, went from warp 4 to 9.9 by perfectly consecutive shots.

That's interesting because I got my Picard Maneuver on the same game in a Borg super jackpot hit. It was cool in itself. Congrats on achieving yours!

Quoted from AlexSMendes:

Take the glass off and simulate it.... No shame on doing that unless you keep the high-score.

That steals away all the fun a earning it though. I still have never done that on any game I've owed, even ones ive sold, since I may buy it back someday. Though I may have to with LOTR since there is no chance of me ever getting it's wizard mode.

Quoted from spidey:

It's safer to not lock a ball into the Borg ship.

I can't resist arming the Borg, even though its to my own detriment. Having them shoot back at me never gets old.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Probably about half way done with the playfield swap, what a project...didn't help that I took a year off from working on it, lol.

This is on my list to do someday. My playfield has some shield insert wear. Its going to have to be when I'm OK with not having the game playable for a year or so. I've had it for six years and I'm still not willing to have it down that long.

Quoted from weaverj:

i've heard "opto nightmare" from a few local guys i talk to. is this game really that bad? i'm pretty good with maintenance on my pins; borderline anal. that could be a bad thing, if i have to clean optos nonstop. am i going to regret getting one of these things, or have the issues been blown out of proportion a bit?

I've had my game over six years and I had to really go through it when I first got it. Once I cleaned everything up really good, the optos haven't been an issue since. In fact I haven't had anymore maintenance on this game then any of the others I've owned.

Quoted from Higloss67:

Does anyone know what the cannons are supposed to do when you first turn on the machine.

Mine have always both rotated and fired.

Quoted from drinkduffbeers:

Many thanks for the link. Reading through it I kept hoping someone would chime in with loose connector or something.
Oh well looks like the diagnostics fully match my symptoms so will look to the motor

Even if its lower power that's causing the issue, I would still check the shafts to make sure they are clean. If they are gunked up with old sticky grease, the cannon will require more power to push through that resistance. You may find that cleaning them is enough to get them working to a satisfactory level. Its also relatively easy to do.
