Just repaired a friends STTNG and while doing so noticed that the cap at C2 on the PDB was gone! Fallen off, broken off, cut off?
The machine works just fine so what is the caps purpose?
Should I install a new one?

Probably has something to do with a ripple on the 12V.
And if no components are that critical for the 12V voltage the machine works.
I would place a new one, it's probably better for the 12V.
I think it is strange that the datasheet of 7812 specifies a 0,1uF cap, and the schematics for STTNG 100uF.
