Gottlieb or Bally?

Gottlieb

Oh yeah, I see the difference now. N' vs And. I always thought they were the exact same title before.

Im thinking about grabbing one of these from a friend for the winter. Any tips on keeping this game in good working order? He said that he only has 1 ball in each alley and that if he put more than 1 on each alley that it wouldnt kick the balls out. Dirty coil sleeves maybe....

Also, what size are the balls? I may get a few more to have around...

#6 5 years ago

It takes a 11/4" diameter ball per Marco Specialties.

OK, went and looked at my dirty girl yesterday. She plays fine, shes just a little messy.

Is this the way you all transport it with the head down? I tried with the top unlatched as well, but that seemed just as sketchy. Any tips?

Also, does any one have a pic of their game set on the lower leg holes? Contemplating doing this so my 3 year old can play easily.

Going to try and get Back Alley bowling balls made. Not sure Ill get them in time for my party though...sigh. BackAlleyMatt

BackAlleyMatt , I guess Marco has some in stock. I hope theyre as nice as yours! Unfortunately I cant wait for an answer.

#12 5 years ago

Yes, you need to unlatch the smaller hinged top piece, to unfold it, and then it lays flat..make sure you lay some protection on top of the side rails too..

So the top unfolds all the way out.....got it. I had it half cocked and resting half open, but that looked wonky as hell. Thanks for the tip.

I just rushed some balls from Marco, Ill report back if theyre any good. Hopefully they just have stock of Back Alley's balls that they are re-selling.

#14 5 years ago

Gold wings is on the mend, ill put sns on the end when its fixed. Cant wait for my balls!

Lower leg setting is awesome. I have a friend in a wheel chair as well, he will dig this I think.

#15 5 years ago

Got my SNS playable last night. Only real issue left to fix is someone had put in a not even close coil on the left launcher so waiting on a coil.

I’ll have to see if I can make it harder to cradle the ball... it would be kind of cool if they had set it so if you hold the flipper for more than say 2-3 seconds (whatever the average time to completely stop the ball) it would score that shot as a foul.

Forgot to introduce myself as a new owner, couple weeks ago we picked one up, fun family game!

Sure is a fun family game! I love that anyone can easily understand how to play without having to explain anything.

It also serves as a gateway pin. My younger brother who never really played my games much latched onto this on and a day or two into the holidays started migrating over to over games.

Recently joined the club! My plastic ball trough under the playfield has cracks in it so it doesn't attach properly to the underside of the playfield. Anyone know of a source for this or have a part number? Unfortunately I've not been able to locate a manual either.

Thanks,
Chris

#19 5 years ago

Manuals are available. I got one through marcospecialties I think.
I don't think you'll find that plastic trough anywhere though...not many Strikes n Spares were produced, so spare parts are hard to come by. Luckily since it's under the playfield it's hidden and repairs to it don't have to look perfect, just functional.

#20 5 years ago

I checked the manual and I could not find a part number.,,Steve Young would be your best bet, and I agree since it is hidden, just glue it up..

#21 5 years ago

Yeah, someone had tried to glue it before and it doesn't hold well. I'll just need to get more creative I guess. Not worried about the cosmetics but the issue is it gets out of alignment and balls can get stuck and not feed into the return kicker correctly. Thanks for the tip on the manual.

#22 5 years ago

Maybe fashon up some metal tabs and rivet them onto what is left of the plastic?

$22 bucks at PB Resource. Easy fix! Part #31075

Thanks to MT45 I was able to order the part from PB Resource today.

#25 5 years ago

Thanks for posting that. Tons of rare parts there!

On another note, we have two clubs for this game..... https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/strikes-n-spares-gottlieb-95-club
Maybe a moderator can combine them?

My wife is loving SNS for its simple game play, and group play. I was very surprised by this.

Loving my bowling balls from marco too. (back alley matt made them or MArco)

I had to go from 4 to 2 balls on each side. I may be able to do 3-3 but i like how it looks with the even 2-2. My game was having trouble kicking out the ball with the pressure of 3 balls behind it. It would make the game unplayable at times.

Just picked one up on my 30th bday this past Friday. Like the dramatic lighting with the 8 lights on either side of the lane, but was thinking about maybe adding more lights somehow, but still working through how I'd do it.

#33 4 years ago

Getting the brightest led flash lamps you can is a pretty spectacular effect.

#34 4 years ago

Haha, that's actually what I did as of right now, but I was wondering if I could do like 2 led strips on the inner sides of the ramps, and 2 leds on the outer side to light up the ramps and table as a whole more. Just wishing there were more lights in general, though the ones that are present def get the job done.

Can someone check and see what switch is used to tell the game there is a ball that needs to kick up. Mine sometimes fires with no ball to be kicked up repeatedly. Shooting a ball will end it. Can it be adjusted or should I just replace? It's in a hard to reach space

The one down the center? Does it just need to be adjusted?

yea, probably but its in a hard to get to spot. i just need to slide the PF up to access it.

Ive never had to open mine. Im gonna guess the switch just needs to be gapped properly.

#40 4 years ago

Be careful with switches in this game. They used the Piezo film sensor type at least on the playfield rollovers. Bending those can damage them and supposedly there is no adjustment to make with those switches.

I don’t know if the switch for the kick up is the same type or not, just make sure its a regular switch before adjusting. If it is one of the smart switches, see if there is an actuator you can adjust instead of the switch itself.

That's my fear. I don't have much experience with them because I'm more of a system 1 & 80 guy.

Some one smarter than I needs to make this as a kit and sell it to me.

LED strips on each side starting at the dots in my crude mock up.

The strips could be on all the time with warm white at like 50% or something low as to not blow out the player.

When the “bowl again” insert goes off, that triggers the strips to pulse towards the pins over and over. Maybe in red, then yellow, then white in that order, keeping with the colors of the game.

When a strike/spare is scored, the flashers trigger an “explosion of color” from the strips. Something sparkly maybe? This would be the only color puke I would want, for strikes or spares.

To each their own if they want that full color all the time, but I think this color scheme would be a nice compliment to the game.

Comet matrix system can be used for this. It's so simple that anyone can figure it out. It's all plug and play.

Matrix system does custom light shows based on voltage triggers? Im pretty sure matrix is not a smart system.

Probably need Arduino set of commands running on a Pinduino board. There is a gentleman here on Pinside that does that. Listed in the Marketplace

#47 4 years ago

Connect the big strips to a dimmer and set to 50% not to blow out player. Then connect smaller leds to the bowl again socket. Then connect colored LEDs to the flashers sockets. Your overthinking this. This mod will cost less then 50 and can be done in an afternoon.

P.s. you can even hook up LEDs under the cabinet to flash with stikes/spares.

F' It! Let's go bowling!!! Just cleaning and repairing this one for a friend so he can take it to the Houston Arcade and Pinball Expo in November. I expect it to have a lot of plays by the end of the weekend. It is a fun player. 72194636_10157718255548060_6334966767487549440_n (resized).jpg72194636_10157718255548060_6334966767487549440_n (resized).jpg71912748_10157718255878060_4740811422747852800_n (resized).jpg71912748_10157718255878060_4740811422747852800_n (resized).jpg
