10-4 I guess there's a ridge or something different on those rubbers other than the normal ones I keep around ?

Quoted from Stebel:Make sure you have the proper flipper rubbers. Incorrect rubbers tend to accelerate wear at the flippers.
Adding mylar above the flippers might be a consideration.

This thing is like brand new. Legitimately. I changed over to comet sunlight today and had it open for the first time. I've never seen anything like it. Every fastener, every bulb still factory new, never touched. Crazy. I'd love to know the story on this thing.

I know some of you will hate that I did the leds, it is what it is. 47 2smd frosted bayonets and 2 clear 1smd wedges for the coin door and that's it. I didn't change flashers. The 10 bulbs under the 10 pins are unpleasant to get to, rest are super easy. Took less than 10min to do everything except for 10 pins, then another 20 just for those. Lol

If anyone needs a picture of what something is supposed to look like factory, I can get it, just let me know. Pretty happy.

What is your strike difficulty set to?

Have you seen the Pinstein “Big Lebowski” trim kit? I am going to order it, just trying to find an economical way for shipping to Canada. Will prob have to work out something when I go to Allentown.

#257 4 months ago

Whatever factory defaults are. I did see a thread about TBL trim while I was hunting around trying to solve the ball cycling issue.

I see you don’t own any other Gottliebs. Gottlieb uses a custom 1/2 inch thick rubber for the flippers. It’s Gottlieb flipper rubber, basically. Everyone carries it. I cringe when I go to a collectors house and they have the standard rubber on their games, and it just destroys the damn flipper area.

Saw a rich asshole collector guy who unboxed a Strikes ‘N Spares, BRAND NEW, put standard rubber on the flippers and destroyed his playfield within 4 months. It was so sad and disgusting. He didn’t care.

Gottlieb flippers have a very narrow groove for the rubber to sit in. Oversized rubber or rubber that isn’t seated properly causes the ball to dig into the playfield, kinda like those tricks were you pinch a bottle cap and send it flying. But instead of pinching with your fingers it’s the delicate wood of the playfield and a steel ball.

#259 4 months ago

I was just eyeballing pbl website to add some to my cart so I didn't forget, will double check its correct but def. Understand to not use regular. Appreciate the reminder.

Just a friendly reminder, most people just don’t know! It’s weird Gottlieb had to be different. But especially considering how beautiful your game is, you want to keep it looking mint for as long as possible! Congrats on such a nice example.

Mine has been on route its ENTIRE life.
See these photos to see what the wrong rubber does to it!

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Since none of you schmucks were of help, I’m giving back and posting photos of my shop job. I polished everything by hand and waxed the playfield. I spend hours polishing it and it looks great. The worn areas are too bad, maybe one day a NOS playfield will cross my path.[quoted image]

It’s unfortunate it was a bad earner for ops. Despite being on location for 25 years, the original, never-reset audits on mine indicates it’s only made a bit over $5k in 2 and a half decades. It basically did about 50¢ per day, lol.

#261 4 months ago

That's brutal. I'd think it would be a very popular bar game.... With that said I'd never seen one until I a worn out example showed up in a friend's collection... I have been looking since. It won't get played much here, we have too many games for too few people lol, so it should have a pretty easy life.

Warm white LEd's make this game look so good. Now I want one. Lol

#263 4 months ago

I almost went with warm white but now that I put sunlight in it I'm not likely going to swap them back out

#264 4 months ago

I'm glad we talked about this again as the ones I had in my cart at pbl are 3/4 not the 3/8 that's listed as correct elsewhere. I was hoping to put some yellows on to match the rest of the "look" but there doesn't seem to be a silicone choice for those, Real 3/8 rubber in yellow from comet is a thing, though.

Fun fact...3/8 gottlieb flipper rubbers aren't what's on this thing...don't think that was ever what was on it.

#266 77 days ago

I’m pretty sure that these fit our stock SNS flippers when I shopped ours out last year:

That's def not what's on it and I thought this was basically brand new out of the box...will have to get into this a bit.

Are you sure? It HAS to be the skinny Gottlieb rubber. It’s either red, yellow, or black.
It exists since Steve sells them to me all the time. You may have to pinch and pull it a bit to get it into the groove, but it should easily fit.
Post photos?

#269 76 days ago

Well maybe mine has the wrong rubbers on it, will pull the glass, take them off and see. I bought the yellow 3/8 perfect play units from PBL that are gottlieb specific.

Well....odd. The replacement 3/8 gottlieb specific rubber from PBL measures 0.375" and the existing black rubbers on the machine measure 0.460" and they are bigger around, total runout is longer ie: the new units fit inside the old units.

0.460 is exactly what my all the regular flipper rubbers measure but again these black rubber units are larger circumference OR they have been on here long enough that they are just wallered out.

There is a groove on the flipper that is the same size as the 3/8 perfect play rubbers I was sent, so in conclusion I am guessing, barring some other input from you good folks, that these black rubbers that are on it are WRONG and they did the cardinal sin of using regular rubbers instead of gottlieb specific units and I should switch them out to these smaller 3/8.........

Using the larger rubbers promotes playfield wear. Lots of these games have the wear at the flippers. Mine included. I did manage to find an NOS playfield.

There is a post in the thread about putting a large piece of mylar down in this area.

#274 76 days ago

I knew about the damage caused by using regular flipper rubber, thought these were correct at a glance, obviously was wrong and previous owner didn't know either as he thought they were gottlieb correct as well. Will swap them. Luckily it's only got a few hundred games on it total and about 3 dozen since I've had it, so far no damage. Where in the world did you find a playfield I would love to get one and would love to find a used one to hang.

Not in love with the yellow, may just go back to black or see what red looks like. Lol. Hate the residue on the flipper bats, may clean or replace those.

It was for sale in Canada on our version of CraigsList.

I want to do the Big Lebowski conversion so might add some graphics to the worn playfied and have it cleared. I have to cordinate with Pinstein to get the kit. Canada is always a pain when it comes to shipping.

I have the pin2dmd displays for the game and will add some customs dots to replace the stock dots. New title screen and such.

I don't immediately see the serial # inside the cabinet, but did look through the supplied materials while I was looking...pretty awesome little time machine in there lol

I was just talking to Andrew at Retrocity in AU about doing color displays on this thing, I actually have 2 pin2dmd units sitting in the bags brand new from him, one for indy 500 and one for southpark, neither of which I own, I'd throw them both in there if there was a colorization available LOL

If you would rather send me your factory playfield I'm happy to get you a label for it, shipping is easy for me to setup if you have a box...depending on what you wanted for it obviously lol

Glad to hear you're still planning on tackling the conversion, updating the dots on it to go along would be icing on the cake! Share pics when you do!
