Are you sure it's together correctly? (mechanically speaking). That flipper enable coil was one of the few things wrong with mine when I got it. Thankfully it was just out of spec gap wise and a little adjusting handled it - but the coil pulls that such an oh so tiny margin the on/off adjusting is maddening. If there is too much tension or something isn't moving correctly, the little coil may be ok and just not have enough power to pull in

If the coil isn't working at all, are you sure you put the wires back on right when you switched it? If it's reversed with the diode, that would be an issue.

#1052 5 years ago

I fixed it. It's working. Just had to put the little swing plate thingy back in place. Now however I'm having intermittent car reset failures; didn't work last night, works this morning. At least now I'm a pro at diagnosing solenoid circuits on GS3 pins. lol It also helps to have an entire playfield's worth of spare parts on hand.

Anyone buy this kit? For the price it looks like a deal. I confirmed with Comet that they are in fact non ghosting.
https://www.cometpinball.com/product-p/kit-sf2-base.htm
Since this kit doesn't come with flashers does anyone have a recommendation for those?
I was thinking these guys for the general flashers:
https://www.cometpinball.com/product-p/8smdg18tower.htm
And maybe these guys for the car crash?
https://www.cometpinball.com/product-p/1smdflex.htm

#1054 5 years ago

That seems like a solid deal. The backbox has a ton and GI with it's 9 across the top of the PF as well would be up there for $.59 cents a pop (then again, what bulb is coming for the GI? Is it warm to natural white?) I buy and stock all the colors, so I've never really looked at the kits.

Personal preference, but I use the 5 SMD tower to give similar throw - but not as bright. The 5 is still a very bright flash, especially in the two uncovered one's by the flippers. If you haven't used before, I'd recommend ordering one of each and testing out...

I don't recommend the 9 SMD tower - it's taller and can have fit issues.

I threw a fast color changing SMD in the champion challenge insert too... Really makes you feel like you accomplished something.

#1055 5 years ago

Thanks. That's great feedback. Honestly I don't have a preference between warm and natural white. Warm is good for keeping the same look, natural tends to give a pin a more modern look IMO. I'll go with the 5 SMD's. Do you you know how many flashers are there between the GI and the back box? I counted 8 on/around the playfield. I'm not at home so I can't remember the back box qty.

#1056 5 years ago

I'm at work, so I can't check either.

For what it's worth - I did warm GI by the flippers where it's warm colored then flipped to natural at the top in the blue and in the light strip. It works very well together, but I don't have a pic offhand. Will try to post one later.

#1057 5 years ago

Pulled the trigger on the no frills Comet Pinball LED kit and 22 flashers. That'll keep me busy!

#1058 5 years ago

I'm out of control. Just ordered a set of cliffy's. For those that used wood expoxy; which brand did you use and how long did you let it cure for?
Thanks!

Update: Shipped! Talk about fast service!

LEDs are in. Only ones I havent converted yet are some GI's that are hard to get to, the far right flashers, the fighter triangles, and the extra ball. Is there any way to get to the extra ball socket without having to drop the car crunch?
I feel the row of GI in the back may be too bright. I'm thinking of changing them to red, blue, or even UV. Thoughts?

#1060 5 years ago

It's doable. My car crunch has always worked, so I've never dropped it and I changed the EB light. It's just a very, very tight fit. Same with the three green targets behind the pop.

For other GI that's tough to reach, I highly recommend using a magnetic nut driver. Both leads are soldered on sys3, so there isn't a ground braid keeping them tied roughly into place. Pop the PF, unscrew the socket, change the light, then rescree it into place.

For the back light I had some of the Comet natural White 1LEDs cheapies that aren't nearly as bright.

#1061 5 years ago

Thanks. I ended up removing the lower fasteners for the CC and swinging it out of the way. My kit was short a white insert but came with some extra bulbs so I tossed in two blues for the FIGHTER inserts. Looks pretty nice to have them blue and clearly their own separate function on the playfield. Maybe I'll mod the fighter LED's on the apron to blue as well!
The EB light was still a complete PITA. I couldn't get my plumbers hands in there. At the same time my wife was watching a show on my projector and that got me thinking...

Anyone install cliffys and have an issue with the dhalism hole with the ball not sinking when you shoot lower ramp? I’m having this issue and was seeing what is recommended to fix this?

#1063 5 years ago

When you say not sinking what do you mean? Like rebounding out? Video?

#1064 5 years ago

It sinks at times and at times it just rolls right over the hole, this is when I shoot sagat lower ramp and it goes up and to the right back down to the hole. I didn’t have this issue until installing the cliffy which if I can’t find a resolution I’m just going to uninstall that specific cliffy on dhalism

I havent installed the back protctors yet, but as it is now when shooting left ramp it 50/50 kinda dont fall into the hole. Added a thiccer post sleeve to left ramp right post to compensate but hoping rhe protctor will help this.

The glue job on my original car started cracking again a few weeks ago so I decided now was the time to design its 3d printed replacement. I added led headlights because I figured if I was going to the trouble of replacing it I might as well ad something. So far it's been in and holding up for a week and one is on it's way to smitherssp for more testing.

Yup! I'm about to install it now. I may message you about the wiring. Cheers!

#1068 5 years ago

Holy hell this thing is amazing! So well thought out. The car is stout but light enough where it doesnt negatively effect the car crunch mechanism. latenite04 provided everything I needed along with installation instructions. The felt pads were a nice touch to help reduce shock to the unit. The headlights looks awesome. They are powered by the car crunch GI and there is a tiny inline PCB. 10/10 would recommend!

Possible to buy one?

#1070 5 years ago
Quoted from Edenecho:

Possible to buy one?

Yes, I will be making them. Probably $100 shipped in the US. This week is spring break, Easter, and my daughters birthday so I won't have time to start anything until at least next week. I'll post when I have some.

#1071 5 years ago

Ive never had my car smash go twice in a row like that, what is the deal? My car smash is one and done, even on "hard"

No worries, vacation is time for relaxing. Ill be eager to buy one when available. I live in Norway, so I assume the price will be a little higher for shipping.

The tension spring for the car reset plate on mine is on it's last legs and sometimes the plate stays loose and the car resets a bit.

Yeah, he admitted he stole the design, said he'd only sell the 3 he printed, promised me he'd pull them down, and he still sells them 2 years later. So even though he said he isnt one, he's an asshole.

EDIT: Also, he's banned from pinside for selling copyrighted work

While I can't condone what was done here by them, I did read posts that you had also stolen the artwork from someone else. Looked on Google and hey presto, some artist off another site has done this and a few others for Street Fighter:

ryu (resized).jpgryu (resized).jpg

Just because you're pulling images off Google doesn't mean they're copyright free, especially when you've put the Gottlieb and Street Fighter II trademarks on it. You say you've given permission to someone to sell your translite, and in doing so you (and the other person) should be banned for selling copyrighted work as well. Logic!

Sorry, I'm not trying to discredit you but the whole argument comes across as extremely petty.

#1093 4 years ago

I used the Ryu as a source. I color balanced and made edits to maximize the usage of the lights behind the image. I added the appropriate logos in a spaces that again would maximize the light source behind the translight and make sense with composition. I consider it a derivative work, never claimed it was more than that. I even uploaded the PSD/JPG for people to get it printed where ever they wanted.

I'm irritated that he promised to stop selling them, and yet he still continues to. Has nothing to do with copyrights or trademarks, but with someone not keeping their word.

#1094 4 years ago

Be awesome if someone could figure out how to make a mini ryu similar to this where the haduken lights up and you could mount right over extra ball target or even a blanka that lights up around

Last night I finished building and installing some speaker lights. It was a bit of a pain because I had to enlarge the smaller speaker hole to make them match.
If anyone else wants to make some here are the speaker led holders I designed, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3647951.

Anyone have a hack to allow the playfield to slide easier on the cabinet slides? Both of my Gottlieb system 3s are difficult to slide but SF2 is really difficult. Always fun when I need to service something.
