as to retrofitting a pico projector, the electronic is not the problem, it's the mechanics, it has to be smaller than 8.5*8.5*1.65 cm. I did not remove the apron to see how much margin there is, but I do hope there's some so one can revise an alternate mounting bracket.

Also, for those in the US:

The only issue with out of the shelves product is the firmware, from what I understand it's currently designed to turn on with specific settings in place.

But when projector start to fail, I'm sure we will have engineer looking into options. I know I will if I'm affected.

Quoted from cfh:

that site https://www.vcknsobey.com just scares the crap out of me. if someone wants to risk their CC info for the s6000 projector listed there, go for it, and let us know how you do. But the "contact" part of their web page does not list their location, which seems really odd to me. It just stinks of a credit card harvest site.
on even some worse news, we called the China company that made the s6000 projector and indeed tried to order 500 or even 1000 of them. We were told that the projector chip used in the s6000 is no longer available, and hence, they can not make the s6000 ever again. So there's that...
On better news, i have converted my Stranger Things Pro to run the projector, basically turning the Pro game into a Premium. Still have to figure out if i just got lucky on the whole affair, or if i'm smart. Jury still out on that. I should know more on this front in the next few days.
And last, I'm working on making the M4 work as a direct replacement for the S6000 projector. Basically i'm doing the metal work for a bracket that will allow the M4 to be a drop in replacement for the s6000. Still have some more work to do on that, but it's looking pretty good.

There you go, told you some smart engineer would look it up if needed (well not you specifically, speaking in general terms)

Which projector is this M4 ?

Quoted from cfh:

Yes it is do-able, i have done it. is it cheap? no. you need a projector to start, and there's way more needed/involved than just that. But you can't go down this road without the (discontinued) projector. are there other projectors that will work? yes, but it's not a drop-in proposal. you have to make new metal mounting brackets (not that the brackets from Stern for the original projector are even available.) And then after that, there's a TON of other stuff you have to do. it's complicated, and it's expensive. You will spend probably $1000 doing this, and perhaps as much as $2000. Is there a cheaper way? maybe. but if you want a factory version, you will need to spend money, a lot of money.

I own a Premium, so this upgrade is not relevant to me, however I would be very curious on the technical means to work around the limitation on a Pro, as an understanding of how Stern prevented this in the first place.

Custom bracket and off the shelf projector seems a better option in the long run IMO as a replacement kit. The bracket could be 3D printed, or better sheet metal (there are shops out there that can do that for a reasonable price).
