Quoted from Insanity199:

The only thing I can’t do is the MXV shot which isn’t something I would probably go for much anyway.

I'm pretty sure my shooter only hits the left two targets or the mystery lane off a plunge, and I've probably seen the MXV skill shot happen 4 or 5 times in my limited time (shut it down when I saw the ramp decal getting cut until I can make time to take the ramp out). We're talking the luckjob most-super-of-super skill shots, right?

Cointaker has the premium UV kit in stock for $279.
Kudos to them for not price-gouging: I will be sure to remember this when making future purchase decisions.
https://cointaker.com/products/stranger-things-uv-lighting-kit1

Awesome coin taker is selling the prem uv kit for $279. I’m sure they will sell fast but glad they are msrp. Helps with all these scalpers.

Topper is $639 at little shop of games too if people are looking.

#13555 2 years ago

I've had the pro version on my machine since the second you could buy them on sterns website 2 years ago but I'm really thinking about picking up the premium edition to have a backup and swap out the apron.

a little advice to anyone installing it. If you are not putting on plastic protectors I would sick a piece of mylar on the back of the slingshot plastics where it rests on the post. On one of my plastics I can see wear through that spot. I didn't know this was a thing but then looked at my other machines and it's happening there too.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Do the ramps have plastic covers at the top bends in them? They should. And stock flipper power is recommended for this game. 255 is default I think.

They, do. I just took delivery NIB from the last production run. Anything over 200 and the ball shoots off the ramps or demo and goes everywhere.

Quoted from Insanity199:

175 flipper power seems WAY too low. There should not be problems with ball jumping off ramps at full power. At 175 I am surprised the ramp and orbit are consistently achievable. What is your playfield pitch?

This is a NIB from the last production. I have it pitched at 7 degrees. I have even gone down to 6 and up to 9 and see the issue still happening. I’ve cleaned the pf but did not put any new wax on. I also am using Ninjas, but the original balls still liked to fly.

I'm at stock power. I've had demo, multiball, and I guess to-be-expected pinball airballs, but ramp travel has been fine for me. Probably the main allure of the machine is the speed - I first played it after testing an Oktoberfest as the theme is a huge fit for me, thought I might NIB it but was clunky and slow to me, then walked over to STh and was like someone shot me up with some 1980s power juice.

#13558 2 years ago

mine at home feels floaty as shit compared to the ones at league and in tourneys but mabye that's the One Dollar Factor haha

Quoted from flipperstick:

That is very weird as mine is a pro from last production run (born on date 12/27/2021). My balls don’t fly off ramps at full power. I am at abou 6.6-6.7.

Very strange that yours is so much different.

It’s hard, but I was able to do it with skill and not luck. Lots of lip outs, but I was able to get it all three balls one game.

Hi. I'm new here. This game makes Stern SW seem slow! Love it.

Got two pieces of foil tape on the metal guide under the left ramp. See if that stops any more gouging. Where the machine is at currently I can’t lift the playfield to full upright position so I didn’t fully remove the ramp to inspect but it felt like it had gotten thru decal and plastic already.

I do think I’ll be lowering the demo after another play session. Did get to TI and TI2 both for first time tonight. Lowered power a couple notches on slings as they were airballing over the lanes here and there.

#stern-stranger-things-premium owners if you have the UV Kit installed - you can not install the premium insider connect kit. The problem is the UV board does not give you enough clearance to get the insider connected over the screw to the apron. See the pics for specific. This is also consistent with what is said by stern marketing materials that stranger things with UV will not work.
Will be talking to ZMeny at flipnout about options to see if can find out from stern the best approach

Can’t you just install the QR reader on your existing premium UV apron? I have the premium UV kit and apron on my pro and just mounted the reader in the UV apron with no problems. The issue you are having is probably why the UV apron has the QR reader opening in a different place.

On the premium it’s supposed to go where the pricing card is. There’s a cutout in your premium UV kit apron.

Huge thanks to you and chuckwurt fir that. I couldn’t tell if you had pulled a pro apart to do that or it as a premium kit. Now I know the premium fits and will do it tomorrow.

Sorry I assume asked already I did try and look....I have a pro with UV kit. The apron has the cutout dor the Insider Connect. Will that work still even though it's a pro apron? They state no but think I've heard it still works fine. Thanks for any feedback and sorry if I added a duplicate question

Yep.

Really I don't know of any combo of insider connect kit that won't work with an existing UV kit apron regardless of trim. Just a matter of relocating/mounting the QR reader to the proper spot. And if you don't want to sacrifice apron art in any way, you can get a bracket to mount to the coin door dollar acceptor slot.

With the QR reader installed? Stern's got you covered with some great art!

Really it feels like the reader takes up so much space that I can't imagine art just using the surrounding space could look all that great - that's why I'm going to move to the coin door (and then use one of the custom apron cards for the premium card spot). But I'm also not very creative / imaginative at art stuff.

I still like the idea of the QR reader in the bill acceptor spot of the coin door.

Quoted from blizz81:

I might move this to my coin door also and put a switcher in, BUT I do think there is some cool potential with this game for art work around the QR reader - either only using the upper triangle, or the whole right side of the apron.

the QR reader could be a stand in for a lit portal, especially if it would fit in the lower part of the apron even with UV kit installed (?). I have no artistic talent, but might try to photoshop something once I get around to getting Photoshop re-installed...or hope that someone else with more talent does it!

Sorry, I meant one specific for the right pricing card spot on the Premium UV apron, which is where the QR reader is located instead of the upper right triangle like it is on the Pro. For those with Premium UV aprons and Insider QR scanners, see if this will fit that spot. I'm hoping someone comes up with a more elegant solution soon but this should work for now.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Flipper eos actuator. Look at both flipper mechs. One of them will be missing.

So I got the new part from Pinball Life and went to install it, but I can’t get the broken piece off of the flipper mech. The screw holding it on (looks like a thumbscrew, but has a receptacle for an Allen wrench) won’t budge. Maybe was locktited in the factory? I’m using lots of pressure but I’m afraid I’ll break something else if I give it any more.

Any ideas how to remove it? Also, I saw somewhere that modern machines don’t really need the EOS on the flippers. Is that true?

Thanks for your help.

I think there are 2 key reasons Stern wanted it on the apron.

1. It’s in the players’ peripheral vision.
2. Putting on the coin door, where bill readers normally would be, seems to imply that the device is simply a payment reader.

Also, Godzilla and Rush are the best looking aprons in Stern’s collection. Never been a fan of all the triangles and lenticular cards - one cohesive piece of art looks much much better.

Also these games are still intended to be on location and making money…the fact that the majority of sales currently are for home use is sort of a happy accident. There have certainly been winners and losers throughout the pandemic, and Stern certainly popped the lotto when it comes to sales. Once we get through this and they have strong sales for operators/locations AND in-home…hold onto your butts.

Just took delivery of the game and wanted to know what flipper power is everybody using? I am currently at 175. If I start to go higher the ball will shoot off the ramps.
On a similar note, I will have to adjust my outer left and right lane as it sends the ball down to the slingshots almost every time. The plunger lane will needs to be adjusted as it hits the mystery spot all the time.
Other than that, this game is hard, but fun.

I keep mine at stock power but I have the flipper cooling fans from Pin Monk. Game changer.

I’m pretty good at dismantling and fixing things, but still new to this hobby. Anyhow like many I need to remove the spacers from the demogorgon. I see the assembly sheet in the “key posts” but how do I remove it from the game in the first place. I see most of the plastics have rivets. Any and all help will be appreciated.

There’s a wood screw holding down the mech to the playfield on the left side of it on the top side of the playfield. You’ll have to remove some of the plastics surrounding it to get to it. Just take that out and leave it out.

The main too attach points are beneath the playfield. They are nuts. They attach to posts that are in the mech that run through the playfield. Remove those three things and it comes out.

Quoted from PinHigh1:

Best audio/sound package of any modern Stern IMO. I've been learning pinbrowser and added several songs to game chapters building on Cleland's already very good code.

Oingo Boingo's Just Another Day to Bullies mode, Sunglasses at Night to Monster Hunt, Africa to Follow the Compass, Rock You Like A Hurricane to Lure Dart, and Neverending Story to TK multiball. I also tweaked the game ending music to include an Every Breath You Take clip. I also changed the Snowball music to Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time. I figure I may never get there to hear it, though . All of these songs were used in the series at some point.

One of the things I love about the series is the 80's nostalgia, particularly the great music track. The stock sounds and audio are good by themselves but I think integrating more of the show music track makes it even better.

#13599 2 years ago

I will definitely miss the soundtrack on this game. So so good.

Thanks for that information. My last question is, do I have to remove any rivets to do this (remove plastics to access top screw)?
