dinot I’m not a fan of PinStadiums, and I’ll just leave it at that. I do like your idea of adding a few spotlights. I’m with you on preferring a dim room for pinball. I usually turn the room lights up just enough so that I can see the ball on my dim games. I can play Aerosmith in the dark, but Stranger Things is a little tougher.

Quoted from dinot:

I have a ton of mods on mine. I put in a 4 way splitter. I was too lazy to make it myself and just bought the one that LER mods sells.
I will be getting the UV kit (on order)

Oh okay thanks. Was the splitter for the top 12v or lower 5v?

#10703 2 years ago
Quoted from palacekeeper:

Splitter is for 12V.

https://lermods.com/shop/ols/products/4-way-stern-spike-splitter

For 5V, I plugged a 5V wall wart into the service panel and run the 5V mods off of that (I believe it is only the spinning arcade sign). I'll do the same for the 12V (I'll feed the input of that splitter with 12V) as I want to de-couple my mods from my game's components....just in case. I have the Lasserific topper and I plugged that into a 12V power supply that is plugged into the wall (so I don't even go into the backbox for that topper)

2 stuck balls this day, are there ‘smart’ mods out there to avoid this the next?

Take the mods out. .

I use cabinet silicone bumpers all the time to help avoid ball traps. They might help you here too.

I've gotten 1 stuck up by the police vehicle as well.

Which reminds me, pulling the glass on this game is an incredible chore. It is a very tight fit and getting it to slide off enough where I can grip it to pull it out is not something I look forward to.
Any ideas on what is causing it to do this? I know that it must be the side channel, but I don't know if it is because it is too tight vertically (meaning that it is pinching the top/bottom of the glass) or that it needs to move outwards because it is squeezing the side.

Thanks,

Quoted from Purdue:

Anybody have some pictures of the stern art blades installed?
Contemplating my options. Ive searched and not easy to dig up for some reason.

IMO, the Tilt Graphics “wooded” art blades are far more appealing than the stock Stern blades. Check them out if you get a chance before you decide.

#10708 2 years ago
Quoted from palacekeeper:

Does anyone have all of these mods installed? If so, did you need to get some power splitter cables, or were you able to connect all of these up to existing open power connections? I want to order some more mods but I'm not sure on the power requirements so I figured folks on this thread have already gone down this road...
Already installed/connected:
pinmonk fans (already connected to panel inside coin door)
dice shooter rod (already connected to panel inside coin door)
Planned to be installed:
UV light kit
topper
Dig dug
Joyce's wall
spinning sign (interactive)
Thanks

Do you know what makes the spinning arcade sign “interactive”? It’s a lot more money so I’m curious.
Thanks

Our glass is very tight as well, unlike other pins.

The interactive sign triggers off the quarter hunt insert, or you could choose any other light to trigger it since we use a light sensor relay.it’s more money because it requires more parts and wiring to make it work.

I was hot and heavy on those for quite a while, but lately I'm thinking i like how the stern ones seem more integrated into the rest of the artwork. Not sure yet though. Anybody have some personal pics of the tilt woods ones?

Yeah, the glass is also very tight on my Pro, although I did my a sheet of non-reflective, so maybe that is a couple of mm.

Mine was tight out of the box. When I swapped to voodoo glass it became even worse.

I prefer the stern stock art blades. Goes with the over all art work of the cabinet and playfield. Just my opinion. Wooded ones just to dark color wise.

#10719 2 years ago

OK had to share. First game ever, first shot at the Demigorgon and I got it in the mouth.

#10720 2 years ago
Quoted from Purdue:

The pics posted by JWE are the old Tilt blades. Tilt recently removed the demogorgans from the blades and the ones they are selling now are just the woods.

Update on the UV kit I have ordered with a distributor. Stern has told them the UV kits arrive in early July. They were told end of May prior.

Backalley Creations did a fantastic job on this one for me as usual! Waiting on my alternate translite that will tie things together .

I’d like to buy a Premium translite, if anybody has one for sale. Nothing wrong with the pro TL, I just don’t like seeing Eleven perpetually stuck in the first few episodes. Apparently someone was selling the Premium TL on eBay but they’re out.

Weird. I just got mine recently. No matter, I like the demogorgans there...I actually would miss them if they were gone.

I asked my distributor about a topper ETA and they said "we have no idea until Stern sends us the bill". Anybody get a real estimate? Put a deposit down mid-April. Should have just paid the extra $50 to get it from Marco's right then.

I got one unopened in the box if you must it now you can have it for $1200

There is one on ebay for a good price, but its labeled as a pro. I think he has 1 left

What's the thought on shaker motors? Are they programmed well or is it rarely used?

Searched the topic, but not very much on it other than people installing them.

I must be blind, I can’t find any STH translite auctions. I’ll keep looking though, thanks!

Quoted from jitneystand1:

Have you guys already covered how to fix/alter the bouncy inlane guides in this thread? Picked up a pro in a temporary trade, the game itself is great fun but the fact that 75% of the time I’m not getting a smooth roll onto the flippers kind of ruins it for me...

Had some anti-rattle tape lying around, so I cut 2pcs and lined the plastic lane guide with it to try it out. It actually works pretty great, getting smooth feeds at least twice as often and the ones that aren’t are at least less bouncy

Meh, I had a spare shaker so I installed it. Underwhelming compared to any other pin with shakers I have.

I’d save the money unless you have two pins you’re thinking of putting a shaker it. Then buy one and figure out which game you enjoy better with it installed.

#10737 2 years ago

shaker is a must as it adds to the demogorgon effect imo

#10738 2 years ago
Quoted from DaddyManD:

Thanks will look into testing and/or adjusting the optos. I figured it was more of a motion sensor since when the ball flies around and hits Demo it triggers. Also since the mouth wasn't sensing assumed it was a different opto. Anyways, thanks and will report back!

Just reporting back here as I have seen other folks with similar problems with demo not registering hits. So the demo went from registering some hits, to registering no hits. When game boots up it works for a few hits then goes dead. In switch menu, the opto in the ramp housing works on boot up but then goes out dead over time. So clearly an opto issue or a bad connection. Solder looks a little sketchy so for $10 just ordered a replacement opto from PBL. Hoping this is a quick solve and will report back when I learn more.

#10739 2 years ago

Most times, I can get a Stern opto working again just by resoldering it, or fixing an alignment problem.

Since you ordered a replacement and if you have a soldering iron, try reflowing the solder. You've got nothing to lose.

I just had an opto that developed a broken trace on the board. I jumpered 2 solder points and now the one that I ordered is a spare.

Asked around as i ordered on the day it was released and still haven’t received it either and the answer i got was stern likely wont be shipping toppers until July-ish.

Nicked the ramp as it was going up...

Well this sucks. A lot of us were told in January that it would be March. Then May. I’m not a squeaky wheel guy, especially about something as insignificant as a mod for a game. But damn it Stern...
