I am fixing up an Austin Powers and have run into an odd problem. When a ball is in the trough, the toilet registers, and then tries to release the ball by lowering the exit post over and over until an error occurs. If I plunge quickly, it will just register once and play can continue.

Here is the odd part:

In switch test, they both test OK. Just one switch (the correct one) shows for each. Also, they do not share any column or rows in the matrix. The switch wires are the correct color according the manual.

Could I possibly have a bad IC, or am I overlooking something very simple?

As always, thanks a bunch!

Ah, didn't think of that. I will try that in the morning and let you know.

Thanks!

Hmmm....

Problem just became a little more odd:

Replaced both diodes just in case I wasn't testing it correctly;
Problem seemed to go away, until I lowered the playfield, then it came back(possibly coincidence);
I replaced the trough diode the way I took it off, then noticed that someone had originally put one on backwards;
Swapped the diode to the correct position;
Now in switch test mode it fires off several other switches as well, not just the toilet;

Could I have harmed the diode having it backwards?
Should I just replace it again and see what happens?

Thanks again!

Thank you all for the input. After digging around for an hour, I finally found the culprit. There was a switch hidden underneath the Time Machine ramp that was chewed up. Sure enough, the diode was bad. Fixed it all up and, voilà, no more switch errors.

What a great feeling to have that done.

You have my gratitude!
