Just thought I'd start one since, for some reason, there wasn't one yet!.
I'm restoring one right now, pics to come. I'm super excited about it. I've never played it but the consensus seems that it's a lot of fun. Any mods I should know of?

No mods I know of. Was my first pin and may be selling it soon. Too tall to fit in the new game room. But for now I guess I am in the club. The 5 ball multiball is pretty nice. I really like the atom smash shot for extra ball, very original idea. Works if 1 or 4 balls is in the smasher.
Had one in the early 90's when I met my wife. Got married, sold it to move into a house. Ten years later wife said she never wanted me to sell it so bought another one, but in worse condition. Have a better playfield that I will touch up and clear for it.
Very unique game and it's amazing the sounds they were able to produce out of that little cheap squeak board. I remember when it was new sitting next to other games of the era, with all of it's flashers, lamps under clear ramps and clear playfield inserts, it looked like a STLE sitting next to a 90's DMD.
I own my second right now. I only have 5 games set up (7 wrapped up) and ss is one. great fast game. this one is in awesome shape. the pf is a 9.5, cab is 9.8 and no cracked ramps. I want to get around to pimping it with blue led lights. Great strange game. best for people with a big collection. If I only had 1 or 2 games I wouldn't want ss to be one of them.
Hey, resurrecting this old one.
Just got mine working and it plays great. I do have a question though. It says to install 5 balls. But when I have 3 loaded into the Atom smasher, it shoots out two. Any quick thoughts on that?
Quoted from Chitownpinball:Bro in law just bought one. Any leads on those flipper toppers that were stock?
Nobody makes them, good luck finding any.
The metal ramp entrance flaps are 90 degrees.File them down to a razor edge and the difference is amazing.
My brother in law has a nice SS. I was wondering; does this game flip sloppy like an older gottlieb or is something not right? Im used to snappy williams/bally flippers. This game seems to be really hard to get good oomph on a shot. He had a tech look at it who said its flipping right, might just need re-alignment.
My haunted house flips stronger than this game it seems. Really surprised me. Its super hard to hit that center inversion ramp and make it all the way around it. Weve done it, but its not doable over and over at all.
Just wondering. Like the game. Just never owned a game of this era so I wasnt sure how it should play.
Quoted from wdennie:Don't know why no one has made just a decal to put on.
no one can make these????
Question to owners: Do all 3 of your flippers have toppers? I see some games with just the 2, and some with none. The flyers have none, and pics are inconclusive online as far as I can see.
Working on a strange science at the moment that needed new playfield hangers. I made a post on what was needed to modify the mantis brackets as a replacement for 0365-00134-0000.

The one I'm working on has them on all 3, I can't say I'm a fan of how they look though. If it was mine I'd remove them and give them to one of you.
I'm also in the process of reverting the flipper mechs to the previous generation if anyone is interested. The linear flippers really are crap because of those nylon wear points.

I have a reasonable offer if you are interested in selling them. I need 2, but would take 3.

It's a client machine, sorry.
Quoted from Jahkub:I could do a flat bed scan of it, it won't be perfect though because of the rivets.
I can do the photoshop to make it good. If you could, that would be awesome!!!

Cool, I have the flippers out of the game right now so I'll give it a go in a bit. I'll lay a good ruler next to it so you can scale it as needed.

Here you go, I hope this helps.

I’m picking up a strange science soon. What’s the recommendation for fixing the weak flippers?
I’ve heard you can rebuild them with using 90s Williams flipper parts but keep the original coils.
Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I reverted some of the parts back to the previous generation as laid out in Vid's flipper guide. It requires making a bracket for the different style spring but was overall easy and a major improvement.
Anyone have some information on these Bally switches.
I keep getting random switch closed messages and physically the switch is fine however i believe it’s the small capacitors on the switch failing.
I realize these caps are to help the switch react/register faster however it seems pointless on anything other then pop bumpers as stand ups typically have enough time between triggers.
I’ve removed them on one stand up target and fixed the closed error and the switch seems to work perfectly in game play. Anyone else remove the capacitors and have no issues?
Can someone show me what their atom smasher looks like?
Mine is having issues every once in a while. I hit a ball into the smasher and it jumps that red section and goes onto the right metal ramp and back into the play field rather then staying in the correct path and being held in the smasher.
This is causing the game to get confused on how many balls are in play.
Any suggestions?

Is your metal ramp underneath the red plastic trough? It should be, it's just that I can barely see mine through the 2 pieces of plastic, but yours looks pretty clear.
I just bought my SS about 2 months ago. After extentive rework on flippers, solenoids, MPU board repair, and replacement of misc hardware, I finally got it working. I love the game... it is fast. Sounds are awesome as well as the lights. I had a lot of trouble with the Atom Smashers dumping the balls when you get the 5 loaded in. I hope that it is fixed at least it is for now. Been a real challenge for me since this is my first pin. The over all condition of mine is impressive.... very little wear on the playfield. Cabinet is in fairly good shape.... only need to touch up the black. Side rails need to be rechromed as well as the legs. Back glass is pristine and boards in the back box are in good condition..... no leakage from a battery because it has the VRAM.
Just put a Strange Science up for sale. Please make an offer if interested: https://pinside.com/pinball/market/classifieds/ad/137321
I have a strange science, and it seems next to impossible to make the anti gravity ramp and have it go all the way up to feed the upper flipper. I just did a rebuild. Do I need to lower the pitch, adjust something else, or am I forgetting the game and maybe the shot is next to impossible anyway?
Thanks.
Mike

could you please explain this mod?
Quoted from guard:The flippers suck...full stop. Someday I'm going to make mine playable by changing them out.
would it be better to change the solenoids, or to check the power supply? my test point TP4 is +38.8VDC instead of +43VDC.
maybe it is weak for this reason. any help?
