Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

I just installed a P2D in a STTNG and let me tell you .. that is an amazing job slippifish did. Amazing.

Thanks very much It was also really good fun to do, colouring can be challenging to learn for sure, but once it "clicks" it can be addictive

As for Williams Strike Master; this recently appeared on the virtual pinball circuit, and my immediate thought was "that's ripe for a colour project!" As DMD games go it doesn't strike (no pun intended) me as being particularly tricky to colour (that is, I didn't see many dynamic scenes that would be challenging to trigger palette or animation changes for)

A bit obvious perhaps, but is the PIN2DMD display definitely activated?

Transitions are the worst thing, so many variables, and the palette limitation with color mask mode means you can't always gracefully blend the colours between two scenes, even if you can reliably trigger.

I was lucky with TNG because there aren't many transitions going on - there is one that fires for the spinner value increasing, and if you look closely, that isn't coloured - the fact is, it can fire while any other animation is running, so if i tried to colour it, it may end up clashing with some other color choices more, making it even more obvious! (Still a few little bugs with TNG which will be fixed before the end of 2019!)

For indi 500 I was even cheekier - I outright overwrite the transitions in most cases and just leave the previous animation replacing them instead. The few that are left I get away with by picking a default palette of yellow and making them look like "explosions"

And if I'm being honest, I decided against colouring Champion Pub mainly because of the nightmareish transitions in that game.

Quoted from Jakers:

I recently bought a CFTBL and it has a Pin2DMD in it. I am not familiar at all with this system. The colors seem to be messed up on some animations and completely missing from others. How do I know if I have the most up to date firmware and colorization files? And how would I go about updating?

It sounds like you are using version 1.0 of my project which was a bit of a mess and had some uncoloured scenes and suffered from lots of ghosting. I really didn't get on well with CFTBL in those days, I was glad to see the back of that project! But I grew to love creech and version 2.0 is a massive improvement and far more appropriate for the legendary machine it is, if I say so myself. There is a posting on page 2 of the thread that was linked above that will take you to the latest files hosted on vpuniverse, or drop me a DM and I can send you a direct link later.

If you want to be REALLY sure which version it is just by looking at the display then the say no to drugs/credit screen shown during attract has a subtle difference that can be used to tell if its v1 or v2; under the word "PIN2DMD" at the top of the license plate, if there is a tiny sequence of colours going left to right (just like on the PIN2DMD logo!) then it is v2. Additionally in v2 the rom version screen shown on game bootup should have both some colour variation and a colour sequence that was not present in v1.

The 2.0 project files do need v4+ firmware on the PIN2DMD display, so make sure you get that sorted/confirmed first. For the colour sequence, visit pin2dmd.com, look at the image at the top of the page. When you switch on your display you will see the same logo on the display and the sequence of colours should match. If they don't you need to open the PIN2DMD menu and adjust the setting accordingly. Sort your firmware first as the colour sequence may get changed or reset during that upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to this link (that you actually provided me last year) but the link is no longer valid. Where can I find the files I need to re-download to hopefully fix this issue?

CFTBL is my project I can sort you out with the files by the weekend - PM me your display UID, even a photo will do!

Quoted from action76:

This 100%! They have to be named pin2dmd for the software to recognize them. Leave the .key file as it is though.

In the latest firmwares I believe the file detection has been modified to also look for filenames matching the UID in addition to "pin2dmd".

Quoted from Jakers:

Animation works correctly but colors are incorrect

Try renaming the files to pin2dmd.fsq & pin2dmd.pal anyway, but this sounds to me like the files are being picked up if you can say that the animations are coloured (but incorrectly), and it's the RGB sequence at fault, or else some other setting I don't know about. The RGB setting you save should persist across boots of the display. I don't believe your firmware is to blame as my CFTBL project is older than your firmware version I think, but it's always recommended to run the latest, and you should perhaps consider that so there can be no doubts.

I have noticed that some VPIN users are starting to drop comments on Wob's videos of my PIN2DMD projects asking for the files for VPIN or complaining that the links are broken. I am also getting inundated with emails asking for the files, and having given it much thought and deliberation, and to try and spare Wob from any further requests or comments, I have decided to make my PIN2DMD projects available again for VPIN.

The VPIN files are PAC format, if you are a VPIN user and you don't like that format because you have some obtuse understanding of what that format actually means (don't believe the hype!), you will have to wait for the Serum guys to redo them, or source the original VNI files that were previously available (they really aren't that hard to find if you look hard enough). It looks like someone has started TNG in Serum so perhaps you won't have a long wait for that one. For those of you that don't care, have at them and enjoy. I have no intention of uploading these to VPUniverse again or taking part in the discussions there, I am under permanent moderation and anything I post must meet the approval of Dazz/the mods and I am essentially banned from speaking freely.

My current list of available projects is as follows:

- Demolition Man (beta)
- Star Trek: The Next Generation
- Creature From The Black Lagoon
- The Flintstones
- Indianapolis 500
- South Park

Real pin users - as always - are welcome to reach out to me with their PIN2DMD display UID and I will be happy to provide an export for you free of charge.

Thanks for all the kind comments and encouragement I have received in the past both here and on VPU; this was and remains an enjoyable hobby for me, I am not out to make profit, and I look forward to releasing some updates for the above projects in the coming months.
