Just released my PIN2DMD HD 256x64. Read more about it here https://vpuniverse.com/forums/topic/5348-pin2dmd-evo-hd-upgrade-to-256x64-resolution/
[quoted image]

That looks cool ! Is the picture you show high res content or upscaled ?

When can we try it out ? =D =D =D

Not sure if this helps at all, but my TZ 9.4H with stock display card, Pin2Dmd 4.11 firmware and colour files version 0.52 has never crashed.
But - my TAF L7 with Rottendog display card, Pin2Dmd 4.08 and colour files version 2.2 has "blacked out" about 3-4 times since the rebuild a month ago and 40-50 games in it.

Pcbway gave me a price for the ST-chips of $94.
Sure hope the shortage is over soon ....

Quoted from DavidLee:

Thanks Plante886. I found that video, but the PCB website has changed. I was able to find the "Assembly" picture, but then I was asked to answer to provide a bunch of specifications which I could not figure out. The next questions are in the attached screenshot.
It looks like the price of the STM32 MCU is down to just above US$ 20. I found this one... is this right?
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/stmicroelectronics/NUCLEO-L552ZE-Q/11501277
I'm thinking the best option for me would be to purchase a complete pin2dmd... where can I do that?
Thanks for your help![quoted image]

That is not a STM32 chip, but a development board.
PCBWAY can't use that for assembly.

You should be able to "Add to cart" from this project : https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/PIN2DMD_EVO128x32_RGB_LED_Dotmatrix_Pinball_Display_Controller.html
Not 100% sure if it's updated with the latest files, though ?

Quoted from lucky1:

If you use the remake speaker panel I would rather go for the PIN2DMD HD and set it to Scale2X for smoother scaling.

That is some epilepsy-inducing flickering in that movie .. I hope this isn't how it looks IRL ?

lucky1 I see there's someone selling Pin2Dmd with Geehy microcontroller instead of STM.
Googling this I find mention that the Geehy microcontroller might not be 100% compatible with the STM one and therefore frame drops occur.
Is this something you can say anything about ?

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Has anyone had a problem with their Pin2DMD flaking out after a few minutes? My Monster Bash will start up and have the full color files looking great, then after a couple minutes the Pin2DMD zaps out, and there remain only a few lit dots at the bottom of the screen.
This only occurs when I have the color file loaded on the SDCard. If I remove it and just use the stock color options, it stays working fine. I have tried several different cards, all the same result. Previously this Pin2DMD had been working flawlessly for several years. Same hardware, same game. Same SDCard, no changes.
Happens across multiple firmware versions too.

Sounds more like an issue with the coloring file - if you have tried several SD-cards from different brands ?

Guess I'll wait with my order from Pcbway ....

Yikes! That's crazy high.
Have you tried to get one made with the Geehy APM32F407VGT6 chip instead? I think you had brought it up in an earlier post and Lucky tested it I believe. I was wanting to try it out myself but haven't yet.

Maybe I asked before ... memory is hazy

But yeah, I have asked PCBWAY for updated estimate with the chip you mention.
Let's see how it goes !

#1366 1 year ago

So this seems more reasonable :

APM32F407VGT6 5pcs $8.223/pcs, STM32F417VGT6 5pcs $43.958/pcs

lucky1 , do you think the APM32F407VGT6 will work ?

#1368 1 year ago
Quoted from Pin_Fandango:

Pcbway is overcharginng for all smt chips. If you are a returning client you shoule be paying $15-20 for a vgt6

If the APM32F407VGT6 will work it is even cheaper, waiting for lucky1 to chime in here.

I have tried contacting the author of the color files for WWF Royal rumble (cb3) on vpuniverse with no luck.
There is a thread that says these projects are abandoned.
If so, there must be someone who has these files and perhaps would be willing to share ?
In case the author shows up again a donation will of course be made.

I would contact the Pinsider from this site. He helped me with Twilight Zone https://www.cdnpin2dmd.ca/

Thanks for the tip !

Quoted from ViperTim:

Line is back again, but faint…
Going to work a little with the ribbon cable see if that helps anything at all…

You could try to swap the panels and see if the line follows the panel.
If it does, you can buy a new one from AliExpress.
I have been using these : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33025337414.html

There seem to be different boards made (https://pin2dmd.com/hardware/) - maybe you could take a picture of yours?
I guess that would make it easier to help with troubleshooting.

Quoted from Ive:

Hi
This is my board.
Made some progress - it seems a bad connection at the power connector . If I press on it / wiggle it will power up.
I reflowed the header pins and no difference so will need to repin the connector - I don’t have a replacement to hand currently.
However still not getting past the logo screen ? Tried reset button . No difference. Tried swapping round ribbon cables to the machine. No difference.
Tried with MicroSD card in/out . No difference.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Did you put in a new cable from DMD driver board in the backbox to the screen - or did you just turn it around?
The cable is the right way around - for example the red lead goes to pin #1 on the DMD driver board and to pin #1 on the Pin2Dmd screen?
Could be the DMD driver board itself, power to the DMD driver board or cables/connector to the DMD driver board.

It looks like the Pin2Dmd is reading the SD card and loads the palette from there.

lucky1 Will the APM32F407VGT6 work for 192x64 displays?

lucky1 I am trying to get a Pin2Dmd on firmware 4.51 working on a #wcs
The color files are some years old but worked previously on different Pin2Dmds
I tried both Malenko and KOF versions.
This time the colourings don't work, the palette seems wrong (orange-ish instead of black) etc.
Juggling the rgb sequence didn't help.
Different SD cards made no difference.
Screen works fine in another pinball.
WCS pinball original screen works fine.
Is there any difference in the handling of unlocked pal/fsq files between firmware versions?

I tried downgrading to version 3.20, 4.08 and 4.10 using the dfuse method in the hope older firmware versions would support the color files.
Apparently this doesn't work - the screen wouldn't reboot even though the flashing went well without errors.
Maybe this is because the screen was flashed with version 4.51 first?
Flashing with the 4.51 version again brought the screen back to life.

#1410 7 months ago
Quoted from lucky1:

If you use DFUSE this must work. DUSE erases the flash and therefore any trace of the old firmware is erased.

I tried v. 3.20, 4.08, 4.10, 4.12 etc.
The first successful downgrade was 4.23 - then the screen would start up again.
The first firmware for this screen was 4.51.

Also looking for a CNC file for the panel. Does anyone have a build for the XL screens to send to PCBWAY?
