Too many dumb people making too much money into the market . Never ends well. The market is not designed for you to make fast money . It always takes back what you don’t deserve to make . A monkey and a dart could have made money over the last year. You never go broke taking a profit.

#6557 3 years ago
Quoted from Lamberger:

hey Ice! Just wondering want strategy your on right now.. I only invested 10% of my portfolio as of right now. Should I Invest 50% on longs, hold rest in cash incase of a crash? Just seems like the markets have blown up crazy since 2010. Bubble like. This will be my retirement fund. I'm 46.

No one can give you proper advice with out knowing your person situation . There is no one size fits all advice.

Come on man! I’m happy to help
Seriously, throw out any estate planning or tax questions anyone might have
I think I’ve seen it all?
I want “peace of mind” for my wife and 3 girls. Don’t you?
Do you think most estate planning lawyers figure out how to make more money for themselves? Does your CPA do anything more than “count your taxes”?
Is your estate planning attorney, CPA and financial advisor all on the same page?
I don’t think so
Or maybe listen that clueless schmuck Lou I can’t see anymore

Makes sense don’t listen cpa or lawyers . Fake news .

Ok this stuff happens when people don’t think there is risk. 24 million people have opened new online trading accounts since covid and the average account size is less than 1500 dollars all chasing the same 10 stocks .

#6597 3 years ago
Quoted from Lamberger:

I understand that, I think the biggest part of my question was what percentage to invest over all for now. I noticed Berkshire Hathaway is 2/3 invested in the market, 1/3rd in cash, waiting for a crash to take advantage maybe. I sold some real-estate.. I think its gonna drop. Been investing in the stock market for 3 years now, know the risks... but I'm no investing genius. Did well with Tesla, Lightspeed, Spotify and JD.com..bought a ton in March, sold everything end of August. Slowly getting back in, dipping my toes.lol. Waters feeling cold tho!

If you have a 20 plus year time horizon what happens over the next 3-5 years does not matter. There is no need for you to worry . Just call vanguard and buy a blend of low cost etfs and leave them alone.

Quoted from iceman44:

No buddy. I’m gonna leave the “professional stock” advice to YOU
Along with the legal and tax issues. But I’m sure YOU are the genius that gets that as well.
It’s YOUR thread IT guy.
If I can help you out then I’m here for YOU buddy.
So YOU IT guy go ahead and rock and roll with it
I’m done with YOU and this thread. Just put in the dumpster

Dude must have been investing in Jim bean last evening .

Quoted from Bospins:

A tip for anyone with a company Match 401k
My returns were crappy because I had some standard fidelity mutual funds to pick from when I set it up. They got me a whopping 20% last year, as my personal stuff more than doubled. Frustrating
I called them and got out of the default “personal advisory services” and converted my account to “brokeragelink” which is their version of E*TRADE, scottrade, Robin Hood etc.
Now I can buy and sell in my 401k as I do in my taxable accounts and make similar returns.
Sorry if I’m late to the party on this one but this was an epiphany for me so thought I share, in case there are other dumb dumbs like me out there.

Are you upset because you only made 20 percent pay year . If you made more than 20 percent last year you probably took to much risk. I’m not trying to be rude at all. Last year was a completely odd year. If you’re over the age of 40 you have lived through 2-3 major corrections and know that they can come at any time . The average return on the s&p over the past 20 years is below 6 percent.

Can anyone explain the logic of buying these spac”s . Seems like they are raising money into a blind pool investments . Seems like bs to me but also seems like there is an unlimited appetite for these now . Can anyone educate me on them.

Quoted from iceman44:

IF you aren't willing to BUY AGAIN on a dip in any stock, don't buy it in the first place.

you should not be trading your accounts .. it’s impossible to trade your accounts over long periods of time ..odds are against you. Even professional traders don’t beat the market over long periods of time

New ETF ARKX announced bases off of space technologies. Space stocks are surging. SpaceX going to go public?

Quoted from RTR:

Anyone have experience buying Invesco BulletShares (or any defined maturity bond fund) and holding to maturity? BSJP matures in 2025, 12 month yield 5.75% and 30 day yield 8.13%. Current price $22.41. 5/18 NAV $22.35
If I understand it correctly, in the final year the maturing bonds inside get rolled into short term t-bills or other short term cash instruments, and they mature/pay out the NAV of shares in December of 2025 (in above example).
What I'm trying to figure out is how the NAV changes over time. I understand this is high yield and there is a default risk on some of the bonds in this environment.

Just keep it simple and roll your own treasures online . Keep it simple

Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

Yeah... in the mean time my investment accounts are down 4% year over year... which I guess isn't too bad. Going to be taking a huge chunk of discretionary investing money out in the next few months to pay for a pool thats finally coming up to be built after 18 months of waiting. Speaking of which... As a general rule, if you have 100 stocks in a normal investing account and 1/2 are "up" and 1/2 are "down" and you don't need to liquidate all of them to fund something, which ones should you sell? The ones that are up or the ones that are down?

Sell equal amount of your portfolio.. a little of everything

Quoted from investingdad:

I began investing in mutual funds when I was 23 and set aside 15% of my salary to do this. My wife, though we hadn't met yet, was doing the same as me.
Other than rebalancing, we've never sold. Not in 2000, 2001, 2008, or any other time. We are now early 40s and contemplating an early retirement by early 50s. We save about 23% of our gross these days.
Simple, cheap, boring, stress free...and highly successful.

Think about switching to the exact same asset allocation from mutual fund into etfs , cost are less and you’re not subject to the cap Gaines the fund already had before you buy it . Mutual funds are not very tax efficient for the most part . Etfs for the most part don’t distribute tax gains each year . Other tip o can give you try to own your fixed income on your own name vs a fund or etf .
