So who do I hit up for a discord invite?

#15802 2 years ago
Quoted from ypurchn:

So who do I hit up for a discord invite?

DBLM, who is totally solid. But warning, all the political ranting and dick swinging by Ice here in the last couple of days was the norm there when I was on it, it was insufferable. Maybe it's changed, but given what we just witnessed, I doubt it.

Everyone is out and back to business on discord, if anyone else is managing billions of dollars worth of portfolio's, please chime in and help the community out. And if it gets angry here politically, sign up discord! Easy to scroll over, and disregard what you don't like. Cheers!!

Oh ok, so now it's billons? Cool, the legend grows....

The thing about financial advisor firms…the assets under management and number of clients are available through public disclosure requirements of the SEC.

Back when I considered using one, I discovered the firm I talked to misrepresented how much they actually managed in the process of doing my due diligence before committing any money.

True...but unless you're an absolute amateur, you don't need an asset mgmt firm, John Bogle (may he rest in peace) revolutionized investing for us individuals by popularizing (not inventing) Index funds. I think you may have mentioned it yourself before. So stay the course, Indexing is the way to go. I like trading, (it's like playing poker)..as long as you keep it small.

It was back when I was in my early 30s and one of my college friends was starting up a firm. He’s done well and he almost had me convinced to the point I did some talking with small firms before realizing I didn’t need it.

Another information sharing application or for discussions. Basically another way to argue over the internet

Yeah. we're nearly there, but I think we may have another small round to go due to CPI numbers report coming out.

Energy stocks seem like a good investment for the next year, what do you like? I picked up some CDEV a few weeks ago, they are an independent oil and natural-gas producer with a low entry point. The stock has popped over 10% since the first of the year.

I picture the soundtrack in a hate cave being nihilistic black metal. But honestly, does anyone feel safe investing in Chinese companies? I was dabbling in them last year and I watched stock prices absolutely tumble by different actions of the Chinese government. Some of the big Chinese stocks seemed more volatile than crypto. I really liked Alibaba and Tencent, but I got off that rollercoaster.

Tech/Cell phone companies maybe at one time, but I agree. Interestingly enough, those turns are somewhat similar to Twitter 2016-2020 here, but with more permanence. "Hi, you no longer are in business because you're in jail/dead". But...as to his question, it was purposely trollful as he has this odd fixation on China. Anyone investing should know that nearly everything is at least indirectly influenced by China, so he's pretty out of luck if his hatred runs that deep.

You, Kvan, Nwpinball (who is blocked on Discord and clueless as well) etc are why it exists. And cheap ass grey hearts to boot. Pure stupidity and hate on full display never ends here, comments above

As for Vanguard I tell my potential clients to call my daughter who is a CFP and works for them at the moment, she’s coming to work for me in April, to go there and pick up a copy of “Common sense investing”

I think Vanguard is a great idea. That’s what you all should do here.

Totally believe in “karma” and all the great things we do to impact our clients lives. The results and testimonials speak for themselves, dopey haters like Zablon, the definition of irrelevance.

Just for my boy Kvan who wants to talk about my $$$. Up another 4% today. You do the math brother.

Jealous Haters are gonna hate! FOMO. Discord for the good guys sharing info to help each other.

You guys keep talking about me though. Keeps me “relevant” and knowing that I occupy that space in your minds rent free

I don't believe anyone in this thread has ever questioned your investing skills (even if there is some difference of opinion). But as usual, you are more interested in beating your chest about how awesome you are than understanding the issue some have.

#15824 2 years ago

You can't post on internet forums without thick skin.
Yeah, ICE has that in your face personality and conservative politics - who cares, he gives decent investing advice and I like his posts
And yes, people are going to brag about wins in an investing forum -- also doesn't bother me like it does some of you.
Just put him on ignore and move on if he upsets you. It's so easy to use the ignore function.
Please, if I annoy you - put me on ignore also, you won't miss much.
I mean, 20% of the forum looks like this for me

Then you miss out on greatness! . Hole on up in cave. Minnesota? You damn sure ought to be thinking about going elsewhere in the winter and should take my vacation advice.

That’s it. I’m out. Carry on and good luck to everybody here!

Remember, I was gone and only came back in to reply to the shit talking. I didn’t start it, never do. But I will finish it. And now we just let it go. I do anyhow

This stuff is just such nonsense. You once said your clients put up with your political ranting because you make them money. You seem to think we should similarly fall in line, but what your ego won't let you understand is no one wants to hear your take on politics here, and I'm guessing, also in the Discord forum.

Actually that’s not what I said about my clients. 5% roughly “put up with it” because I provide them a value proposition they like and they like me personally regardless. I say it with a smile on my face. A handful have left as well. Sometimes it’s just not a good fit. Def not trying to please everybody and they KNOW where I stand.

The other 95%? Surprise! There are people that are of like mind, have common sense and can see things with their own eyes. It’s just the way it is. Sorry

“Fall in line”? With what? I don’t care about changing what anybody thinks or says. Its people like you and a few others here that DON’T agree with me that just want me to shut up and not express my opinion. That’s fine

Like it or not, POLITICS plays a major role in the economy and thus our investments. I get why you guys are a bit sensitive to the issues and results right in front of you. It’s not pretty

Thus, Discord was formed because OF the ability to discuss politics when it’s necessary.

As for the Discord forum, Matt and I started it. It’s an open forum for everybody to discuss their opinions. Someone doesn’t like it they can hit the road like you did. Tonight we are discussing bourbon tasting however. Fun times and good people. What do I get out of it? Just that, fun and helping people.

Maybe it’s better to have a socialist financial advisor that is broke and thinks he’s shit? I’m fairly sure that person doesn’t exist.

Anyhow, good luck with your investments. I just laid out the Energy analysis for you, again. It’s a starting point, not the end all be all

I swear I'm getting sick of all the political misinformation and the lies being told...from Covid, to inflation to the election result. In real life I'm around a lot of people that are from the other side of the aisle, I find they have a tendency to be more vocal about where they stand. So before I would just nod and go on with my day, but lately I feel like it's a civic duty to speak up and knock down the misinformation, from the election being stolen, to Bill Gates putting nano bots in vaccines to control our brain. How much facts need to be out there for people to realize the truth. No, Covid is not the same as the flu (833,000 people dead in the US so far and counting) and no dominion machines did not steal the damn election...enough!

It’s only a small part of my portfolio, but I see China as the next big spenders, growing middle class is to the moon. They’re going to be buying crap and BABA has much to room to grow. Plus cloud service could be huge.

#15840 2 years ago

Baba’s biggest problem was Jack Ma throwing his weight around.

Gotta kiss that ring.

I think they have learned their lesson now, but who knows, they still could be on the shit list.

I have liked JD over BABA for years now on a fundamental level…and also from a “know your place” level.

That being said…China investing is something else.

And your speaking up will change people's minds? Lol. The ego! That's what gets me the most, people who think they can change other's opinions. Do you seriously think you can change the mind of an uneducated person, who lacks critical thinking skills, with a mind full of garbage like JFK is coming back to life?

Instead of wasting your life and time doing that, why don't you donate your time to mentoring some local kids. Help them with their homework, teach them to think critically, skeptically.

It's not that you disagree with Ice's politics, it's how you do it. Y'all come across as pompous, assholes. Again my tribe is better than your tribe.

Thanks for the actual stock tips Ice!

I had some BABA but after China cracked down on Hong Kong, I left the Chinese market to never return. They can skew their financials, cover up production, and the Chinese government can snatch a CEO at will, or interfere in any company. Why would you invest in that?

This right here is the heart of the problem.

A lack of critical thinking skills coupled with an inflexible world view that, when challenged, leads to defensiveness rather than an objective examination.

A lot of people, I believe, mistrust science because they not only don’t understand science, but they don’t understand the procedures of science…hypothesize, test, develop a rule set, challenge, adjust, update hypothesis, follow data. Question and challenge and see if it holds up or does not.

But it all comes down to critical thinking skills and a willingness to say your conclusions were wrong based on new data.

Back on topic, buy index funds

LCID continues to be my biggest, best play and is trending up. I have some folks coming to give us a quote on putting a pool in the backyard today. We're doing this ahead of schedule thanks in part to LCID.

If you want to buy some lottery tickets, Netlist NLST has a big case ruling in their anti-trust case with Google today. It will either soar or tank after the market closes tonight. Holding on to some overnight but not a long term play.

Edit: Bought NSLT today (1/12/22) at $6.15.

#15845 2 years ago

T has had a nice little run since December. I bought some 3/18/22 $22 calls that were cheap and have done well, but time is running on them. Anyone have an opinion on where T goes in the short term?

My apologies for interrupting with a straight stock question...
