Got off the sidelines for one more nibble and bought more viac at the close. I swear I am done now. Really. Market is dragging it a bit, but it is such a beaten up value play that I see it as a contender for flight to safety as well as a potential growth story.

Been slowly adding to my position as it has been churning the last few weeks. My cost basis is right around $40. Can always drop further of course. Also sold a handful of may 21 puts on it when it was dropping fast awhile back. Those are still out of the money. I’m cool with premium or shares.

On the flip side, my May out of the money AI puts that had a huge premium are now very much in the money now though. My cost basis will be around $52.50 for those. That one is a falling knife for sure.

#12852 2 years ago

Sold some May $15 calls for MAC this morning for .20 and saw the ask was .05 by the time the day was almost done. Actual price would have been .10 so I didn’t try to buy them back. Would have been a cool 1-day cash grab though.

INFLATION

The fed thinks its temporary, I think they are wrong.
I have had a large majority of my vendors raise prices on me, and in my 20+ years in business - I can't remember a vendor lowering prices back down once they have been increased. I can't see this inflation as only being temporary.

Agree / Disagree - and how to you trade that?

#12854 2 years ago

Agree completely just look at shipping costs, they never come down once they go up

#12855 2 years ago

Phew! well that was scary...lol. Today's gains made up for the bulk of my losses, thanks to the some of the share I picked up on the way down. How's everyone else doing?

#12856 2 years ago

Doing fine. Just making calls and watching my UWMC bags come back up. Not advocating anybody buy this, but it is very interesting with the share buybacks, etc. Excited I was able to order 2 allocated bottles of Sagamore Rye from the distillery and get free shipping to my door here in MD. 6 yr rye, 114 proof, and 60 bucks. Can not beat it. @bmore-pinball, this might be up your alley.

Back up from my downs yesterday.
Just wish I would have picked up more sales.
Few of my dogs doing better, except still down on the pot stocks and gnog.

Oil is heading lower, not sure if it's because of Colonial or other external factors...but I'm guessing it's taken the air out of the market a little, it may head lower now. But the bigger picture is the sell-off trend is broken so that's good. The next jobs report is going to be the big catalyst...if it's also weak, then i'm guessing the market will go up....till more inflation news hits the wires...lol, sorry I know, it's clear as mud.

Thought I made 150k this morning seeing HITIF @ $8 and noticed the D and
my 20,000 shares are now <1400. Was about the nicest 5 seconds of feeling I had all week by far and in the end I was let down. It was worth it! RIP HITIF and welcome HITID.

One big tip: With the 737 fix that came out yesterday, and manufacturing starting again....BA is a screaming buy at these levels ($221).

#12861 2 years ago

RIOT sure took a dump x1k

#12862 2 years ago

Bought into SLVRF yesterday when it dropped low, my friend that's into mining stocks and buying metals recommended picking it up. It's gone up 5.75% since I bought it already, woo.

Be careful - it is otc and will not be as easy to sell as if it was listed on a major exchange

I'm just watching from the sidelines, counting my cash for now....

Miss the Dividend days of Boeing. Interesting they might partner with Rolls Royce for an engine. RYCEY at $1.42 a share, WOW.

Yeah, good heads up. I didn't invest too much, I'm exploring a few areas that might do well over the next few months as tech bounces around.

Sold oih on the oil drop. Turned out to be a very good trade. Will look for reentry.

#12867 2 years ago

Fuck double dick shit. PLTR killing me. I just refuse to buy more at this point. Buying dip, Buying dip, now only down 38%. Down again today.
What do people think of BABA if it hits $200?

Sometimes you have to pull the trigger and dump them - does help if you have a winner to sell and offset some of the loss. Looks like PINS is in the same boat.

I dumped GRWG with a 30% + loss and couldn't feel better right now.

Made some bad plays on VIAC and AMD. Hoping I see recovery tomorrow, but this is a lesson to be more stern about my stop losses.

Those are both winners, I wouldn't worry

#12871 2 years ago

Meme stocks are all going bananas again with the market pullback. GME, AMC, KOSS... I held a few AMC shares so its nice to see that green today at least.

#12872 2 years ago
Quoted from kvan99:

I have at least some option plays expiring tomorrow. Hoping for a little bounce to salvage those outright, otherwise I'm hoping the longer term plays help to offset (at least).

#12873 2 years ago

I think SQ, LVS, BA, VIAC, TSM, NXPI, XOM, MSFT, MRO, MGM, DIS (DIS earnings today, so wait till tomorrow ), and all of the big banks are safe bets in the long run....stay away from Crypto, PLTR, PINS and all the other meme high flyer stuff. I

Sitting on my hands waiting to see how this all plays out

did buy some more RFMZ and EMLC
not going to be exciting for you trades but solid income stocks

AMC has been steadily climbing the last few days. With a 30% jump today.

Seems Reddit may be behind part of it and:

AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. Completes 43 Million Share At-The-Market Equity Offering and Raises $428 Million in Additional Equity Capital

The exception is that fuel surcharges do go away when fuel costs decline..

Quoted from MrBally:

They do not, they fluctuate but never disappear
The person that came at UPS that came up with a fuel surcharge when gas prices were through the roof was a genius.
They advertised it as temporary, but it's been there since - even was gas was at rock bottom prices

Im picking up high yeild div stocks.
Bxmt taking a beating past few days.
DX, putting my toe in the water there.
No div, but watching Amazon, i have orders in at the 3000/3050/3100 levels.
Watching my golden goose closely, LMT and RTX, might bail.
BA, approaching my entry point.
Im cheap, i watch 400 some stocks, looking for best times to invest.
I hated covid, but man, I would do the last year over of i could.
Are time machines on sale anywhere?

Thanks for the tip on BXMT! I bought it a couple days back two minutes before close and it's been all up since.

I am a little too invested in weed now, mainly grwg and high tide. If the sector could do me a solid and start shooting up I'd appreciate it.

Not till inflation numbers come out with the CPI, even then if it's not as bad or within range of the shock of the last one, it won't be huge deal...this is called climbing the wall of worry.....it will still go higher but in unorderly fashion.

GRWG blew out earnings - aftermarket went up 6% then when the market opened shot down 6% and closed down 3%. Doesn't bode well for the near term.

patience is required with those stocks and they will pay off

#12889 2 years ago

Folks, today is a nice green day but a lot of volatility remains. I am not as pessimistic as some of you but not fully bullish yet. I think the changes in CDC mask mandates is a little inconsistent and with a lot of questions, which could lead to bumps in the road in reopening plays. With that being said, the reopening trade is live. I would rotate out of the stay at home plays if you are still in them, and I currently like finance, travel, and casinos. Might have been a little early on some of these, but I am ok with that. I still think there is tremendous value in tech; you just have to pick and choose wisely. Use these rotations to upgrade stocks that you are not as high on for now.

My one set it and forget it tech play is MSFT. It is lower right now from its highs and is just a consistent monster. Buy it, set it, and forget it.

Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

I think in this case patience means 3 - 5 years. I want to make some $$ in the mean time.

Just about Everything is green because they’re pumping the S&P and Nasdaq.

The key here is Debt and Inflation. Markets can continue to do whatever but they will crash. Commodities is where to be at this time.

#12892 2 years ago

I have about a third of my portfolio in QYLD, BXMT, EPD, XOM, WRE. These are all good dividend paying stocks and my experience with them has been pretty positive. My question to myself and to all of you is this: why not put ALL of my money in the highest dividend stocks? I'm just looking for some insight from those of you who have been doing this longer than my 3 (overall very bullish) years.

Sometimes the effect of good earnings can take time in this market, can't really react too strongly to what happens right after the report. I wouldn't have touched these weed stocks when they were high flying(though I did touch one briefly, for a whole day), this seems like a comfortable level. Perhaps they do have a new bottom awaiting them around the corner, we'll see. I've generally found it hard to hold long term, as I tend to overthink myself to death, but I'd be surprised if it took me a long time to realize gains with these weed stocks.

The quesion is always what will give you the highest return for the money. Could be a swing trade that makes 15% in a week, could be long term hold that nets a huge increase over years, could be the dividend that pays out 8% annual. Problem with holding long term dividend stocks is that the overall gain + dividend more than likely won't be the best bet. But they are lower risk so they have their place.

You need to answer for yourself what your investment goals are. I am not being flippant; before you invest another dollar more you need to figure out what are your goals, your risks tolerances, etc. That will dictate what types of stocks you buy and the percentages. A lot of folks like dividends because it is somewhat stable and easy. Other people are looking for bigger gains. Only you can answer what meets your needs but you have to have a plan.

i think even with dividend stocks you should shoot to buy stocks at a low point, not buying them strictly for the dividend. Really depends how risk adverse you are, since obviously you could shoot to make 10% gains every month other ways only to end up on average 1% down each month.

At this point I am 41 and a good 20 years from retirement. I have other investments that make my retirement all but guaranteed. So I am trying to make as much money as I can over the next 20 years. At that point I could see having almost all dividend stocks to just treat the dividends as income that I live on, while the bulk of my holdings sit there for my kids to inherit some day. I also plan to act as a bank by making low-interest loans to my kids so they can invest in their own business/etc, while giving me a stable source of income (just as my parents did for me). I think I had already answered my own question, I can likely make more by being more active in my trading. My more stable real estate, business, 401k investments, along with my decades in the future retirement date and future large inheritance from my parents, allow me to accept more risk.

I don't know you at all, but speaking candidly, your strategy appears to be a little all over the map based upon your posting history. I think it would behove you to work with some wealth management professionals to put together a cohesive plan, especially based upon your future inheritances, desire to be a bank, etc. They are going to be able to help you setup the right portfolio mix, help with tax strategy, being able to pass money down to your kids tax free with structured giving, etc. They will be able to recommend if you should go with dividend stocks vs annuities, etc. Based upon your portfolio and your relationship with your banking entity(s), there are a variety of investment opportunities that are not available to regular folks that might be of interest to you down the road. Does it cost some money? Sure. But when you get with the right folks it is well worth the expenditures.

Nice green day today. Still does not make up for the shelling earlier this week but it was a step in the right direction. Going to go throw the switch to the down position and get wet. We will pick up the good fight next week. Have a good one.
