Hey @bmore-pinball, have you looked on Boat Trader? I think you said you were looking at Trophy. Here are some Trophy fishing boats around in the area. Have no idea how much a new Trophy is.

Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

Problem is, past ROI is no guarantee for future ROI. Current market returns can easily trick a new investor into thinking it's normal and expected.
Paying cash and being debt free gives you a sense of security and piece of mind that many value

Sure there could be a crash, there was a mini one for covid but it showed how resilient its getting. 2008 had a good one. and before that decades before.

However the Average YOY ROI is around 11% averaged out through the entire history. so that is a pretty good average. If you get 2/3rds of that with your investments if you chose wisely or used safe bets. etc. You should be fine. as you get older you move items in to less risky situations. That is how a 401k works you chose more aggressive strategy when younger with more risk = more reward and if unrewarded you have time to recover. As you get close to retiring you do not wanna be going all in on one bet now would you? lol

So pas ROI is actually a pretty good measure of future aspects. If you want to contemplate a random crash of an unforeseen reason that is not really going to be viable and then NO ONE should EVER invest and the stock market should be closed down.

However even if you invested in 2008 you would have recovered all of your money and then some. if you bought MORE there fore lowering your entry point you'd have still made money. above the inflation rate for sure and still have been around average.

I think its the ones that really truly do not know what they are doing and they just toss it into a managed account that see that way. But you if you actually do your own trading and the due diligence behind it. and have an understanding of the fundamentals you would be fine even in a crash.

As its crashing, sell out. when it bottoms out/ starts to climb back up you buy back in and buy MORE to make up for the loses when the market returns. It always has. and if it ever does not return and continue growing the world is going to end.

just from inflation alone the market is always growing. there are spikes and dips and even crashes and bubbles but its always going up at an approx. 11% trend You just have to divide your money right to match (or beat) or just come in under that average. That is where the skills come in and the due diligence of research etc.

http://prntscr.com/uynhy1

I believe that is a decent climb for 100 years of crashes and rebounds including several bubbles. And the dow I think lags behind a tad of overall.

Yes been searching boat trader religiously, looking for something higher quality than a trophy
hoping there will be more boats in the spring
I figure this summer or next there will be a flood of used "covid" boats that people realized they do not use

Let me know what you are looking for and I will keep my eyes open. Do you get the Salty Dog up in Baltimore? I usually see it at gas stations around here and at bait and tackle stores. Tends to be more regional from what I see.

Quoted from DBLM:

Boats are expensive to buy and maintain. Price of admission I guess.

The old adage "a boat is a hole in the water you throw money into" remains true always. A buddy of mine has a 42 foot sail boat, and the amount of maintenance just to keep it from deteriorating over time due to sun, water, salt, crustaceans, etc is more than anyone would imagine without prior boating experience. Many boat buyers overlook all that when setting up payments when they should be paying cash so that they can afford the maintenance+insurance.

IMO that company isn't investment worthy. I never heard of it so I looked them up. To be honest, I can't believe they are public. They are losing money like crazy and turned one location into a Covid test site that can only handle 400 tests per day. They are an airport spa. Their business is all but dead. If you want to ride the Covid wave buy JJ, ABT or QDEL.

You had to hit the day trade on XSPA with this earlier with the hype. It was gambling. I hit some big ones in my Casino account. I agree never invest in this. There was some great mathematical set ups with this mid year. It has flushed now. AVOID..!! Same as GNUS, COTY, SRNE etc. The dollar garbage stocks with maybe SRNE showing potential.

I don't know what FSLY is or does, but I got an alert they are down 28% after hours today. Maybe they're a good buy now? That just knocks their price back to where they were...about a week ago?

Sold 2 ABR NOV $12.50 calls yesterday for .30. It was about 11.89 when it happened. ABR is at 11.61 this morning and those calls are down to .20. Wasn’t quite looking to buy them back so soon, but if I can and close the trade out I would in the .10-.15 range.

ABR has only flirted with 12 a few times in the last few weeks. If it can do that every few weeks I’ll try to sell the calls. 2 for now, 3 when I can and so on.

RTX is at the top of its typical channel at the moment. I don’t have any but it’s fun to watch. We’ll see if it goes back to the upper 50’s again or breaks out of the channel.

I saw this. How people still deal with WF is beyond me.

Every bank is just chock full of grifters... they get way with murder (and of course get bailed out by the govt when they really fuck up)

My friend works for Deutsche bank and every week there is some kind of new scandal there.. they usually pay some BS fine that is nothing to them and move on.

Buying more EPD, STOR, and taking a shot at LUMN (formerly Century Link) for dividend/value picks.
I bought some FB for short-medium term but otherwise avoiding tech, most have gone too high/too fast with many similarities to the dot com tech bubble, IMO.

I am with you Replay. Recently bought a chunk of EPD at $15.20 and another at $16.20. I feel EPD is a good way to play Oil. I own STOR also and like it closer to buy at $25 than $28 so keep and eye on it. I also own and like Reits WPC and NNN and like SPG under $65 also since low $60’s seems to be the floor. Long on my tech but those prices are getting up there.

Good luck and enjoy the FL Winter.

Yes sir. I own a lot of FSLY but bought early on. It went from $90’s to $130 in few weeks for a reason I have no idea on. ARK ETF’s, the best this year, bought a bunch this week and added another 87,000 shares Friday . $80’s is ok pricing for the long term. $120’s is bat shit crazy now, but that is how things go sometimes.

I bought 300 Friday and immediately sold 10/30 calls against them. If it doesn't drop $7 more in 2 weeks it'll be profitable. Max profit around $2500.

I jumped in for a little bit for about a 5% gain then bailed. Look at thr slope on the long term chart. If you think oil will rise soon its a good bet. If not stay away. With that said I may jump back in short term, but dont think it's a good long term buy.

Whoa. I can't keep up with you guys. 87,000 shares at $80 is almost $7 million.

I'm lucking if I can drop $1,000 every month or two.

Whoa there big guy. I’m looking forward to putting in $100 this check, which has been my habit as of late.

401k is the smart and safe account. E*TRADE is for fun, which lately has been just buying REITs and then seeing the div payment go up a touch each quarter as I DRIP to buy more. Simple pleasures.

I bought shares at $20, $22, $25 in part to iceman. Will see if he comes back after the thing next month.

That being said I don’t know what to buy now. Added some boring Reits NNN and more SPG a few days ago to hold for a comeback. Will look to see what’s going on tomorrow.

Well this FSLY trade is turning ugly thanks to a downgrade today (after the stock was already down 40+% in a week). I bought back the $87 calls at about 85% profit and sold $79 covered calls. Basically moved my break even to $75 from $79. Anything above $75 is a profitable trade now. Guess I'll just play this game each week if it keeps falling until it finally turns around. Should profit on it eventually, the only thing lost is time.

For your consumption. I pay about $20k per year for Motley research to help build models, along with other services but it’s worth every penny and then some

Here are the current favorite stocks to play their “5G Supercycle” model

My TTD story? After I purged pretty much all of my Mutual Funds and ETF’s last spring to buy mostly stocks I decided to buy some TTD. I wanted 50 shares but found out after close I hit and extra 0 and accidentally bought 500 and I had enough cash to cover the purchase?! I needed to sell the next day to cut my position down but of course TTD was down premarket. I said “F“ it kept 200 shares instead of 50 I initially wanted and sold 300 for a little loss. “Doh!” Well those 200 shares ended up double bagging for me and TTD is now my largest holding.

Weird it worked out that way and from now on I always double check my orders upon execution. Always! But with TTD I got lucky.

Not checking sounds as good a plan as any. When I buy it's usually time to sell. When I sell it's usually time to buy. I've had some amazing misses due to this contrarian action. For example, to this day I'm baffled that SQ isn't sitting in my account from IPO. I could have sworn I bought it to hold... but the contrarian says: of course you didn't. It's only a 10+ bagger, those come a long every day. I also didn't buy TTD because I worked in the adtech industry... it's only a 3 bagger in 2020, no big deal.

Quoted from Fieldsweeper:

Was anyone here around for the KBIO stuff lol.

No, what was that?

#5397 3 years ago
Quoted from DBLM:

No, what was that?

KBIO was a pharma penny stock that was like .10 cents. Martin Shkreli Quietly bought enough shares to own the company and raised the price to around 20 (it was a few weeks or days of buying from a few cents to like 2 dollars before it REALLY took off. and up to around 50 at one point I think. some people were shorting the stock (why the fuck you would short a penny stock is beyond me. Or anything really, only even money upside and nearly unlimited downside)

But fraud and such took place of over stuff. Some thought he was going to use the company for some reason to go public with turing pharma. I do not really remember the details. But i was able to put 2k into it when it was around 5 bucks. but sold out long before 20 or even 50 bucks lol. Before that happened it was already suspect so it was HIGHLY volatile at the time. Made a little bit of money.

just look up KBIO fiasco lol.
