Are you certain it's the opto? I had some peculiar activity coming from the area - drop target to be specific, but it seemed like the optos were causing it. I had to take off the pin connector and reseed it firmly.

If you need to move the ship to get to the optos.

1). Remove the 6 screws to the black plate just under the ship and remove the plate.

2). On the right side of the ship (by the pop bumpers) remove the plastics and unscrew the one holding the bracket to the playfield.

3). Remove the screw on the left side and the 2 screws in the back.

4). Now you should be able to move the ship out of the way and get to the optos.

Best to have a magnetic screwdriver for this.

Ok Mine is the Board 1 J4 Opto. ( The one that does not light up) receiver otpo?

Any update?? I have the same problem but it's the lower opt that is not receiving.

Try the drop target issue; something about bending the metal under the play field.

I replaced the lower opto this evening. What a pain! I certainly hope I don't have to do it again. If I have to, at least I'll know what I am doing this time. At any rate, it seems to working now. Fingers crossed...
