Quoted from TomGWI:Game one play out Tier 1 modes. Hit 3 to 4 lit shields and timed out rest of the modes.
Going into KM MB had 26,806,200. Completed KY MB and then drained the balls yielded a total 47,250,160.
Game two only hit the last multicolor lit shield so the modes were timed out. Going into KY MB had 6,859,620. Completed KM MB and then let the balls drain and scored 15,470,680.
Quite a big point difference between the two methods.
And how often can you do the first vs. the second? The issue isn't the points, it's 'are the points worth it compared to what else I could be doing?'
I think that the pinball community is very conservative in adopting new strategies. I think that the galactic modes could literally make gold shower out of the machine and people still wouldn't use them until someone else showed them that it was correct.
For instance, players that were timing out modes were still shooting a random ramp (not the multicolour one) to finish their mode when another mode-start shot was lit, as it always is in the new code. If the only point is to time out the modes, there's no point in making that shot: the players clearly don't know the new code yet, so their evaluations of the risk-reward aren't good.
All that is to say: first impressions matter...
