Thank god. Someone ask him if the flashers in GOT WIC are supposed to confuse the player...so we can end this shit.

So much for the pinside experts proclaiming LCD is cheaper...

Orbit fix for GOT is on the way.

Don't worry, you've seen the prices of gas are down right? Pinside says those things will probably be a wash and the price will not go up.

If you see Steve at the bar, buy him a Moscow Mule (he likes them).

    #10 3 years ago

poor guy really is hard of hearing...

    #11 3 years ago

So stoked to hear him publically acknowledge a GOT orbit fix is in the works.

I once asked him something at a show and got the weirdest response. He is so deaf

Well, of course Stern and reps will always say its more expensive. While the hardware is way cheaper, the work is way more expensive. So, if they sell a on of one game in the end it may be cheaper since design costs are one-time and hardware is per pin. Who knows where the break even is, probably quite high.

Sounds like no games currently in development for LCD if he's giving reasons for why not.

Many proclaimed even just the work would be less...

That was not the context, just a general question about upcoming LCDs...

I missed the beginning... did he go into Black Knight / pinball voice at all? Love it when he does that mid-thought. Will re-listen.

Yep, he does... how many voices has he done I wonder.

    What?

If you want to hear more from Steve, a more in depth interview was done by Clay on Topcast. It was done around the Spiderman timeframe.

    #21 3 years ago

Ha ha, he names the anonymous Atari guy that said he couldn't do pinball design in the earlier interview... Gary Slater.

    #22 3 years ago

Those Topcast interviews are gold... forget the new stuff... listen to some of those older ones. Especially Python Anghelo...

    #23 3 years ago

Hhhm, Ritchie invented the flash lamp... didn't know that...

I think TheLaw was thinking Tinnitus, but from talking with Steve he actually has Ménière's disease which causes the deafness: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A9ni%C3%A8re%27s_disease

My mom was diagnosed with the same thing so we chatted about it a while last time I saw him. Any clues he is working on Star Wars next?

Ah thanks for correcting/clearing that up

    #26 3 years ago

Oh I thought Law was making a weird response

    Thats obviously silly

Take it from someone working on a game with an LCD screen right this moment, it's just not some huge monumental big deal that requires a whole giant team to handle it. Now if you're working on 3 games at once, and you want to do it in-house instead of using freelancers like Stern has done for a lot of their dots, then yeah, you gotta hire. Maybe that's their plan, no idea.

Always great to listen to Steve's stories.

I got a kick out of the part where Yagov actually was supposed to start with a J.
If your reading this thread Mr. Ritchie, thanks for all the great games!

Is this only for the premium/LE? I've yet to hear with any problems on the orbit shots on the pro.

Pro doesn't have the diverter that causes the issue on the Premium/LE because there's no elevator, so that's why you don't hear of any orbit issues with it.

Steve stops by our both quite a bit at the shows and plays them. Super nice guy!
