    Quoted from PanzerFreak:

... GNR is a blast to play with very deep code and has some of the best light shows in pinball. JJP programmers actually took the time to create light shows synced to moments in all of the songs. That may be a first for pinball,

I hope it's a last too. Intricate light shows are great, but they should be synced to game play not passive to it. That's a glorified jukebox, not pinball.

Unfortunately, it might be effective pandering to the take-my-money crowd who seem to be more interested in showing off their shiny toy rather than how it plays.

    Quoted from PanzerFreak:

it's a shame Stern hasn't done something similar considering these crazy prices.

Nah, put me down as "not the direction I want pinball to go."

    Quoted from iloveplywood:

Hmm, have never played a GNR, but syncing a light show to the music in a music pin seems to be the definition of synching to the gameplay. I mean, I like hitting ramps and stuff but I don't need the light show synched to it. Syncing to modes and pinball moments sure -- but once again in a music pin that's pretty much the same thing.

If there's no difference to you between a player doing nothing but cradling the ball and one "hitting ramps and stuff", you've got a very weird definition of synced to game play.

What JJP did with the music in GNR is ...

I'm not arguing with most of your points, and iloveplywood is also msinterpreting what I said whether intentional or not. I never said you can't sync to the music or that it needs to be synced to discreet play events. BUT the implementations that are totally detached from game play no longer feel like pinball to me. The concept could have been refined further so it's less passive, and not cross the line to the glorified jukebox feel.
