go look at the thread about the MMR on location that has over 12,000 plays. the playfield is dimpled like crazy, and it has more plays than 95% of modern Stern games will ever see in their entire lifetime. To me, it's clear proof that the dimpling will never, ever "smooth out" as some people insist.
something did change compared to older playfields. i suspect it has to do with the type of clearcoat used, but that's pure speculation.
now whether that actually matters or not is another question. despite the dimpling, the playfield appears to be holding up just fine. no cupping or damaged art or chipping to speak of. "dimpled" games certainly play just fine. perhaps the modern clear is softer, but it seems excellent in terms of overall long term resilience.
