My Tron is sitting right next to my Funhouse. They play a bit different, although a cleared/restored Funhouse play so much faster than stock speed; however, once you adjust your timing for speed - the money shots in the games are virtually identical. That doesn't stop me from enjoying either as while the timing and geometry is similar - the satisfaction and reward from the execution of the themes are very different.

Rudy will always be Rudy and be an incentive to play. It's not just the fun of the house that the draw for the home collector. It's also the timeless theme that helps it sell.

The speed and flow of Tron (flow with a stolen Lawlor layout?) makes it unique enough as well. That great light show helps... and Daft Punk pounding on the sub doesn't hurt either.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Disagree. If anyone thinks that any shot in Funhouse is as hard as the gem shot in Tron, they are just taking crazy pills. Every shot in funhouse is very repeatable with a little practice, the gem shot is not at all. Similar layouts, completely different gameplay. Hopefully I can have these side by side one day too.

Definitely true in regards to Tron being more difficult; but, the Pavlov rewards are on the table in the same place with the same geometry involved. Thus "completely different" is probably more like "different".

Funhouse is a great beginners game as the progress rewards are so defined and repeatable.

Tron just takes that and amps up the speed and tightens up the angles. An experienced FH player walking up to a Tron machine has a significant advantage over someone who's never played either.

Much like the Dodgeball movie, if you can dodge a Hidden Hallway you can advance a Quorra or hit a disc. If you can dodge a Rudy you can hit the right ramp.
