Well it finally happened to my Star Trek LE #012 I was playing a few games tonight and noticed a vertical line with one dot out on the right side of the display. I got this game last November. Is the DMD still under warranty? Is it worth the trouble to get a replacement or just easer to replace the LED block. I was plaining to replace it later with a ColorDMD anyway but was keeping the original display for a backup.

If I could find the correct LED replacment part I could just replace it myself. Shipping it back and forth seems like a hassel. I did do a search and came up with a few part numbers but found little to no info on them but this was the best I could find. Can anyone confirm these will work. Ebay has 8 for $15.99 part # 0788BS

Do you think my Black Jack BK 4000 will get the job done?

Well my ST LE should still be under warranty, just over 6 months old but I just ordered 8 of those Dot Matrix LED Displays off Ebay from China so I'll just replace it my self and see what happens. I'll provably replace it with a ColorDMD by the end of the year anyway. I still havent warmed up to the RED dots.

Quoted from Schwaggs:

So I received the LED modules from eBay and have the following update:
1) The Sterm LED DMD uses Common Anode 8 X 8 1.8mm modules
2) The LEDs from that seller match well from a black background and size perspective but the LED color or brightness is off (see picture)
I am going to contact the seller through eBay to see if they have other colors or brightness.

Bummer, I just got mine today from China but haven't had time to open the package yet. If it's from the same Ebay seller I ordered mine from I guess theirs no need. When you removed the original module from the Stern DMD did it have a part number on it?

I found a place called Parts 4 Pinballs that list the replacment Stern part for $13.33 each but they say their current unavailable. Looks like they are in Norway

Sense the part I got on Ebay did not match I decided to call JJ, my distributor and see if it was still under warranty. He said it should be and would order one from Stern and have it shipped to me and I'll have to send the old one back.
We'll see what happens.

I received my replacement DMD from Stern. It was still under warranty and they even sent a UPS return shipping label so all I have to do is repack it in the box and drop it off at UPS. I guess I got lucky, the new display works like new. For how long only time will tell. Hopefully after the warranty expires and if another LED block goes out we will find a source for the correct replacement part. Soldering in a new LED block looks like it would be a piece of cake to me if we had the correct part. Anyway I know most of you can swap out a DMD blindfolded and with one hand behind your back but I figured their might be a few people new to pinball that might like to see how it's done so I took some video.
