The stainless steel ramp portion on the upper playfield...is that just for releasing the balls from the lock?
I'm curious about the ball lock on the upper playfield.
Someone posted that they thought the lock was fed from a VUK. I figured you just shoot the balls up there from the flipper and they lock. Does that ramp act as a normal ramp at times?
It's a different looking mechanism for sure and I look forward to seeing how it functions.
Quoted from Yoko2una:"I think the upper PF lock is a halfpipe design similar to the skill shot in WCS. I'd guess the spike in the lock is only there when lock is lit to trap the balls. If lock isn't lit, then the ball can spill through. I believe the part on the right is the transition to the upper PF from the Flail Lane.
I think it's something along these lines. My guess is that area does more than lock balls. When the lock isn't lit it either comes above and back out to the playfield or goes around somehow.
If so, that makes the upper playfield pretty cool. A loop, lock shot, ramp, and ball lock.
Quoted from IdahoRealtor:I'm operating ACDC VE. The window gets scratched up and hazy. Have had to pull it to polish it multiple times.
I'm generally a fan of upper playfields, but not too keen on plastic ones. I don't get this gripe about not being able to see the ball when it goes underneath. Maybe a newb thing?
I wouldnt kick BK prem/LE out of bed, but I'm going Pro.
Would've went prem if the upper pf was wood w/artwork & inserts etc.
I can see with a route game that wood would be better. In this case, I like being able to see the pops, roll over lanes, etc... underneath, I prefer lexan to wood with this layout. In a home environment I think it holds up really well.
Quoted from rai:I’m trying to think of a layout with 5 up the playfield shots (not counting bash toys, drop or standup targets).
TWD pro 2 ramps, 2 orbits and riot shot. But does have 2 bash toys).
I’m not counting Woodbury shot because it’s not up the playfield.
ACDC? 2 orbits, 2 ramps,....the bell...if you count that. I guess it would really just be 4 based on your criteria.
I was only able to watch a few minutes of the stream.
What does the ball lock on the upper playfield do when lock is not lit?
Does it come right back out of the top? Does it flow out fast or is it stopped first and then released?
Does the ball ever flow freely through the ball lock on the upper playfield and act like a ramp, or is it always stopped? For instance, what happens when you hit that shot when lock is not lit?
I think it looks like a good game. I could see myself getting a premium at some point. I do wish the lock on the upper playfield acted as a ramp as well and that shot had flow to it.
I was a little underwhelmed with the stream...hard to put my finger on why...but I walked away thinking great art, great music (too repetitive, but hopefully they will fix that) cool light show, black knight toy is cool, shots and layout are ok and the upper playfield is ok)
I don't want to start a JJP vs Stern thing...I love both companies and my collection reflects that, but the hype of Wonka took my by surprise and has me really intrigued. I haven't been following that at all, but as I was watching the Black Knight stream I was thinking about their reactions to Wonka and comparing my reactions to the Black Knight.
Anyway, to sum up I think the Black Knight will be a good/fun pin and owners will be happy with it...but so far it doesn't blow me away.
